The Long Awaited Market

Matt and I woke up too hungry to wait for a scone at the market. Plus our breakfast at the inn was included….and featured that amazing granola!! So we showered and ate.

IMG_7513 (640x427) (2)

I had a pile of blueberries topped with granola and a little milk

IMG_7517 (640x427)

Plus fruit

IMG_7516 (640x427)

And a half cup of coffee and a bite of this apple muffin!

IMG_7518 (640x427)

IMG_7514 (640x427)

HIs

IMG_7515 (640x427)

And then we FINALLY got to check out the Cville Market!!! I have always wanted to be a farmer’s market-goer but I have nit-picky complaints about the ones in Charlotte. Mostly that I have to drive to them all. Can’t wait to bike to this one!

It was everything I hoped it would be

Stephanie and Cara met to hang out!

This is for you Canada (mmm onions!)

KATH EATS REAL FOOD! YEAH!

IMG_7538 (640x427)

Hands down the best jam I’ve EVER had!

IMG_7528 (427x640)

IMG_7529 (640x427) (2)

IMG_7530 (640x427) (2)

Blackberry Peach Lemon!?

IMG_7531 (640x427) (2)

IMG_7532 (427x640)

More coffee was required. It was H.O.T. so we opted for iced

IMG_7521 (640x427)

IMG_7520 (640x427)

IMG_7523 (640x427) (2)

And we bought a bag of our favorite roaster!!

IMG_7544 (640x427)

IMG_7545 (640x427)

We picked up some veggies to bring home. Mmmm, nutrients!! Collards, kale, zucchini, squash, heirlooms, peaches, coffee.

Can’t wait to come back for jam + cilantro curry sauce!

IMG_7551 (640x427)

We are picking up sandwiches and hitting the road back to the big city 🙁

Take me away from home, country roads.

I love a great farmer’s market. You know what I dislike though? When there are stands set up selling produce imported from other countries/places. It’s like a trick, because most people assume that anything sold at the farmer’s market is grown at a farm nearby, right?
We used to live by a market that had a rule that if you didn’t grow it, you couldn’t sell it. It was great because it avoided me having to be annoying and ask every seller “did you grow this on your farm?” Anyone else feel this way?

I totally agree! Sometimes the stands are selling stuff that doesn’t come close to growing around our area, like pineapples and bananas. Why are they at the farmer’s market and not at the regular grocery store?

AHHH I am so excited you are coming to Charlottesville! I’m a student at the University of Virginia and the Charlottesville City Market has to be my absolute favorite thing about this town. It keeps getting better and better every year and remains a weekly highlight for me.

Have you been to the Corner yet? When you move here I recommend checking it out ASAP, before college students flood in–you can do the holy pairing of coffee at Para and sandwiches from Take It Away, both Charlottesville staples. You also need to check out Rebecca’s Natural Foods (In Barracks right next to Kroger) if you want to get a wider range of local and healthy produce. In Summer and Autumn I usually end up getting all my dry and bulk goods from Rebecca’s and then fresh produce from the Market. Not too bad!
