The End Of The Beginning

Last night was so awesome!!! But the best part is, as Churchill once said in a very different context, this is not the end, it is not the beginning of the end, it is perhaps the end of the beginning 🙂 After so much fun last night, I can’t believe the wedding hasn’t even happened yet!

IMG_5434 (1024x768)

IMG_5460 (768x1024)

Yesterday, as promised, we had fun and run. Matt drank a BEER and then we went running! I could never do that! We covered about 5 miles on beach, off beach. It was fun and I was running 8:30 miles – finally a good couple run!

IMG_5419 (1024x768)

Then he got in the pool!

IMG_5418 (768x1024)

We had out of town bags waiting for us with some Charleston snacks, which we nibbled on before we left for the party. I had about 3 of each.

IMG_5421 (768x1024) IMG_5422 (768x1024)

There were many reunions of people I hadn’t seen since graduation!

IMG_5424 (1024x768)

We met at a house and took a trolley downtown.

IMG_5429 (1024x768)

Downtown Charleston is SO CHARMING!! And full of energy.

IMG_5430 (768x1024)

IMG_5431 (768x1024)

The party was at McCrady’s, and they had the whole upstairs space for guests to mingle

IMG_5432 (768x1024)

IMG_5438 (768x1024) IMG_5453 (768x1024)

We found the bar 🙂

IMG_5436 (1024x768)

Matt got a Manhattan, the first of a series of Old Man Drinks and I decided to hold off on Round I.

IMG_5437 (768x1024)

The food was SO awesome! They had a few stations and tons of passed hors d’oeurves

Is this not the biggest bowl of arugula you’ve ever seen!?

IMG_5439 (1024x768)

IMG_5445 (768x1024) IMG_5443 (768x1024) IMG_5442 (768x1024)

Risotto station

IMG_5440 (1024x768) IMG_5441 (1024x768) IMG_5446 (1024x768) IMG_5450 (1024x768)

I started with a chilled soup and “shrimp and grits on a stick”

IMG_5451 (768x1024) IMG_5456 (768x1024)

And Matt and I shared this plate

IMG_5452 (768x1024)

and this one

IMG_5461 (1024x768)

And then we found the passed truffled mac and cheese bites!! I had 2 of these along with a mini crab cake…

IMG_5465 (1024x768)

And…….3 of these delicious goat cheese quiche things

IMG_5470 (1024x768)

And I had a few tastes of his risotto plate.

I got an Old Fashioned after a while, but I only had half of it though because I traded it for wine later

IMG_5457 (768x1024)

IMG_5469 (768x1024)

Kanz had fun with some Mint Juleps

IMG_5462 (1024x768)

I switched to club soda with a little cranberry after 1.5 drinks (and some Old Man drink sips)

IMG_5473 (768x1024)

Here’s us with our good friend Whizzle!!

IMG_5463 (1024x768)

The coolest part of the evening was this SONY photo booth. It was all digital though, and you could see the photos on a big screen as well as have them printed into proofs. It was a HUGE hit, and if you’re wedding planning, I highly recommend researching this! (Sorry, I don’t know what it was called or any more details)

IMG_5433 (768x1024)

The photo quality and lighting was amazing!!! We’re going to frame these 🙂

IMG_5528 (1024x768) IMG_5529 (1024x768) IMG_5531 (1024x768)IMG_5530 (1024x768)

They had a fabulous bluegrass + everything else band.

IMG_5478 (1024x768)

There was lots of fun dancing – Kanz and I got it started!

IMG_5505 (1024x768)

IMG_5481 (768x1024)

Megan + Mihir were quite the dancers too!

IMG_5499 (768x1024) IMG_5495 (768x1024) IMG_5494 (768x1024)

Sweet endings included waaay too many of these nut crusted dates

IMG_5475 (1024x768)

Some nibbles off the candy buffet

IMG_5507 (768x1024)

And this tart that Matt delivered to me. There were more desserts, but I was too busy dancing to notice them. Imagine that, Kath!

IMG_5502 (1024x768)

Mizzle and Mihir are a wonderful couple and the toasts were so fitting

IMG_5503 (768x1024)

I ended the night with a tiny glass of pinot

IMG_5508 (1024x768)

And was caught with another whopper!

IMG_5517 (768x1024)

We crashed at 1am – no energy left to blog! I managed to sleep until 8:30, but did not manage to wake up without a mild headache 🙁

I packed various options for breakfasts – instant oatmeal packs, bananas, Barney Butter and this Rockit cereal I got from a reader a while back

IMG_5518 (1024x768)

It was a mix of grains and dried fruits with peanuts

IMG_5519 (1024x768)

The package said to just add water and eat cold or to heat for 1 minute. I decided to add half a cup of milk plus a banana and I microwaved it on and off until it thickened.

Matt and I split the mixture

IMG_5521 (1024x768)

It was good – nice and chewy with bits and pieces of things. The volume was a bit sad for being so calorie dense. And the Barney Butter was the best part!

IMG_5520 (1024x768)

Today’s plans include:

  1. Biking adventure
  2. Lunch at a beachy place
  3. Beachiness
  4. Wedding!

Adios!

I was hoping you would decide to move to nyc, but I hope charleston works out for you. I think it is my favorite southern city. I own a bunch of jewelry from a little shop called charleston charms, which I am sure is a total tourist spot, but I love their stuff.

Anyways, great recap, enjoy the day.

What compelled me was the picture of very very thin, shirtless Matt. Don’t know what you thought my intention was, but it wasn’t malicious. Sorry, I thought we could comment on the pictures Kath posts. I wasn’t even meaning to be snarky, I just wrote it because I was really surprised he look so thin. Take it for what you will, I guess.

AC, it was actually the comment about M’s weight that was posted after yours that I thought could be a bit hurtful.

I was just reading about the horrible, vicious things a few people have been saying to another of the favorite bloggers (Veggie girl) for being “too” thin. I just don’t get the motivation behind mean-spirited comments like that.

OMG Kath! I was so happy to see you went to McCrady’s because it it my most FAVORITE place in Charleston. My husband and I had our first real date there eight years ago. Looks like you had a wonderful time. Reading your post brought back so many wonderful memories. Charleston is so beautiful! It would be a great place to live.

Not tryin’ to defend or hurt … but some men just are thin, and not because of what they do or don’t eat. My brother is exactly the same way, despite plenty of healthy eats and exercise (weights!) and my grandpa was that way till he died. Both got criticized, but neither had any health problems!
