Stereotypical Summer Saturday

Today was quite the perfect Saturday when you don’t have plans to go out. A little cleaning, some yardwork, some lounging, grocery shopping, chores, dinner. All that was missing was a glass of wine (I passed tonight because of last night) and a good movie. But I’ve got a good book to start instead! We got a TON done today – inside, outside, on my to-do list, some studying. It’ll be nice to hit my head on the (clean!!) pillow tonight.

I went to Trader Joe’s and EarthFare this afternoon for a few things. I confirmed my TJ’s does indeed have PB LaraBars!!! Too bad I have a case to use up before I need more 🙂 At TJ’s I picked up 3 tubs of Greek yogurt, 2 more TJ’s brand yogurts to try, eggs, raspberry preserves, bananas, trail mix, blue cheese, almonds, watermelon, goat cheese (so cheap!), a few bell peppers. I think that’s it!? Things sure are cheap there.

I got a few more things at EarthFare (fruit, collard greens, bacon, romaine, Zevia soda) and I had a coupon! They forgot to enter in my coupon so I had to take it to customer service to get my $5 off and then she just gave it back to me to use again as an apology. Sweeet! That makes up for EF being more expensive 🙂 While in EF I had 2 cheese cubes and a macaroon. I basically spoiled my dinner appetite 🙁

I heard about this new Zevia soda and saw it on sale (still $4.99!) so I decided to try the root beer flavor. I had a glass during cocktail hour. I liked it at first, but then the stevia taste seeped through and I didn’t like it much. I just don’t like stevia that much.

I also cut into our huge watermelon. I usually cut the whole thing into ready-to-eat triangles so I can just grab them whenever. Otherwise it’s too annoying to get out the cutting board. But this guy was so huge this is only HALF!! I had a triangle for a snack –

As I said, my late 3pm lunch plus samples at the store meant hunger was no where to be found come dinnertime. Finally at 8:30 I decided to make the recipe (after seriously considering just having watermelon for dinner!). This was my last mystery entree!!! All I have left of my 26 original mystery recipes is a salad (for lunch tomorrow), a wrap (for lunch Tuesday), a soup (TBD), and 2 side dishes (one on Tuesday). I’m REALLY sorry that I’ve had to do so many mysteries. When I signed on for 26 of them, it didn’t seem like that many and I had the whole summer to do them, but I do feel like I’ve been cramming them all in and it’s not fun for you guys to be left without the info. I’ll have to seriously consider doing this again – at least with this intensity. It’s been a LOT of work on my part too, but I am getting paid 8)

I’ll at least give you that this was a pasta dish!

Trader Joes does have great prices for fabulous products – I miss it so much (there are currently no TJs where I live)!

I’ve also tried the Zevia sodas, and was slightly disappointed. I refrain from drinking soda, so I thought this would be a great alternative. Every now and then I’ll treat myself to an Izze sparkling fruit drink – have you tried that brand? Although there is some sugar, it comes from frut juice, and there are no artificial ingredients. Izze also makes “Izze-esque” – a lower calorie (but still all-natural) beverage.

Mystery pasta dinner looks delicious. And as happy as I am to see the end of the mystery entrees, I will kind of miss analysing them and guessing what went in.

Hey Kath, I went to Borders on Friday to try and find Shape and I think your article must be in the October one and that that’s not on news stands yet? I saw the September one-after lots of looking and couldn’t find the article-I searched. So I guess I’ll keep a lookout for October! =D

    I Love Lucy,
    Thanks 🙂

    Lauren ,
I haven’t tried those, mostly because they do have calories and I’d always rather chew than drink my calories (except wine + beer 😉 ). But I didn’t know they had a low-cal one.

Yes, it’s the October issue and I think it’s only out in subscription for (although I STILL haven’t gotten mine!!!!!!)
