You are here: Home / Lifestyle / Starfruit Limeade Margarita

Starfruit Limeade Margarita

Made with Caribe Starfruit Limeade juice, this Starfruit Limeade Margarita is easy to make fast but tastes like it was freshly pressed!

this !

Tomorrow we get to say “May the 4th be with you” and then it’s Cinco de Mayo! May and September are two of my favorite months because the weather is warm but not hot and generally sunny (KNOCK ON WOOD!) I welcome May flowers with open arms.

Starfruit Limeade Margarita

Recall that I drank all the virgin margaritas last year when I was pregnant. I like a tart cocktail, so please bring on the lime juice and salt. I really didn’t miss the tequila because I am particular about which kind of tequila goes into my marg. Nothing with any tint of yellow please. Only white! (I wish I was a tequila connoisseur enough to tell you what the difference is, but I just know white > yellow!)

This is the smiling face of my intern Emily, who has been working with me this spring as she wraps up her nutrition program and heads into her dietetic internship this fall. Fact about Emily: she likes margaritas!

About Caribe Juice

Another fun fact: Emily is married to, Luis, the owner of a startup cold-pressed juice company, Caribe Juice. (Fun fact #3 – they had their wedding at the Clifton Inn just like us!) Emily met Luis while serving as a brand ambassador for the company while he was getting his MBA through Darden’s business school. Emily has shared some juice with Thomas and me this spring, and we LOVE them! The Starfruit Limeade is my fav, and Thomas is nuts over the Passion Fruit!

Luis is a Dominican Republic native who struggled to find the unique flavors of the Caribbean when he was attending the University of Miami for undergrad. Caribe was born out of a need to offer exotic and nutrient dense juices to US consumers, while also building and supporting small farmers in the Dominican Republic.

His exotic cold-pressed juice line consists of Passion Fruit, Guava, Acerola Berry, and our margarita recipe inspiration, Starfruit and Lime. Each juice is blended with cane juice, not to be confused with cane sugar. Cane juice is the nutrient-rich cold-pressed water that comes before any of the processing to produce cane sugar.

Emily told me that the Caribe juices make amazing cocktail mixers just as they are, and she recommended both tequila and rum. We decided to make a Starfruit Limeade Marg to welcome summer to Cville.

Starfruit Limeade Margarita

To prep the margarita we used honey on the rim of the glasses and dipped them onto a plate filled with sea salt.

We used one bottle of juice plus two shots of white tequila, split between two glasses with lots of ice and extra lime for garnish.

I obviously do not make many cocktails at home because I have no idea where the ole cocktail shaker was, so we just used a mason jar! #multitasker

Pour, shake, and top with a lime slice. With just two steps and two ingredients – simple as can be.

Starfruit Limeade Margaritas

Using a tart starfruit juice as our mixer, these margaritas are refreshing and simple to make.
Course Cocktails
Cuisine American
Keyword lime, juice, tequila
Prep Time 5 minutes minutes
Total Time 5 minutes minutes
Servings 2 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle Caribe Starfruit Limeade
  • 2 shots white tequila
  • 1 tsp honey for glass rims
  • 2-3 tbsp sea salt for rims
  • 1 Lime as garnish
  • Lots of ice

Instructions

  • Coat glass rims with honey and dip into salt spread onto a plate.
  • Mix juice and tequila and shake.
  • Fill glasses with ice and pour cocktail over ice.
  • Garnish with lime.

Now you just need some sunshine and a front porch for sittin!

Giveaway!!

Luis has offered to give away a 12 pack of juices to one lucky winner! Juice will ship on ice within the USA, excluding Hawaii and Alaska, unfortunately due to shipping costs. I’d have to see the ingredients side by side, but I imagine that their actual sugar grams are comparable.

      Hi Heather!

I am Kath’s intern and wife to Luis-Caribe’s owner. Just to follow up on your comment. Cane juice is 13% sugar and 17% carbs. It has some protein and a lot of vitamins and nutrients and also is about 80% water. Just wanted to follow up on your question as it should not be confused with sugar, cane sugar, etc. Kind of like an Apple Juice! Juice right from the stalk of the cane! Happy Friday!

White tequila is called “Blanco” and not aged in barrels. Light gold is called “Reposado” and aged in oak less than 1 year (the most common tequila used in margaritas). And dark gold is “Anejo” and aged in oak 1-3 years (more of a sipping tequila).

“Yellow” tequila is aged, “white” is not. Many tequila drinkers prefer the aged because it is usually more complex and with deeper flavors. Similar to whiskey.

I do have a comment about your giveaway. I can’t tell if you mean to exclude Alaska, which is likely due to ship ping costs, but when you continental US you are including Alaska. We ate on the North American continent. The word you want is contiguous states, which includes the 48 states (and DC) which are adjoining. Alaska and Hawaii do not meet that criteria. I am just pointing this out so you don’t end up misleading people. We run into lots of mail and online vendors who don’t understand the difference. Many still think that Alaska is not a state! I’ve even been asked what currency we use.

I ‘m not complaining about your giveaway, just to do some education. I love your blog and read it regularly. I found you back when you were in school to be an RD.

I enjoy a fresh watermelon margarita (on the rocks, no salt)! I agree that blanco (white) tequilas are good in margs. The yellow/darker versions tend to be aged more. If I’m just having a shot I much prefer the resposado and anejo versions! Both are aged and have a much richer flavor than blanco tequilas!

I love any margarita my husband makes at home- they’re his specialty! We always use fresh limes and blanco tequila, 100% pure agave. My husband’s birthday is this week and he’s the biggest Star Wars fan I know (well except perhaps our 6 yr old son) so we will be doing lots of celebrating! Can’t wait to try Luis’ juice line sometime?

OMG I am so in! My moms family is from the Dominican, and I keep telling my husband and friends that they’ve never tried anything like their juices. I would LOVE to serve some Caribe cocktails and get everyone on Team DR!

I love prickly pear margaritas, without salt. They’re such a pretty pink color, and they taste amazing, too! I can’t wait to try these juices; hoping I can find them on the west coast. I love the DR and all the carribbean flavors 🙂

I will drink any margarita that is put in front of me, but my favorite style is on the rocks with a salted rim. Most interesting flavor I’ve had is tamarind!

My hubby and I are beer drinkers over anything with liquor, so I honestly don’t even know what flavors of margaritas one could have! But I’d sure like to try this juice–what an awesome backstory to his company as well!
