Speaking of Sunrise..

Good morning!

IMG_2009Blog

I could have used another hour of sleep and another glass of water, but the show must go on. We’re slicing bread for the Women’s 4 Miler training program this morning – 700 runners are expected! I was hoping to run the race this year, but I’ll probably be needed to slice at the finish instead!

IMG_2008Blog-2

I had a moderately light breakfast today because I’m not sure of my own running plans when I get back in a bit. I like to have 3 big meals a day with an occasional snack if meals are far apart, but it seems that grazing fits this bakery lifestyle a little better. Both from an unpredictability standpoint and a “if I’m going to nibble on bread I probably should hold off on bread with lunch too” standpoint. Balance out the meals and snacks a little better.

In the bowl: yogurt, strawberries, half a banana, Cville Cluster granola, chia seeds. Refresh!

Hasta la vista!

You should totally run the women’s 4 miler if you get the opportunity. I ran it twice while I was a student at UVA. Its a very empowering race! I’m jealous of all your C’ville adventures. BTW have you tried Aromas yet? Its a Mediterranean restaurant on the downtown mall. My favorite was always the bellydancer salad.

Hi Kath. I must say that I have always loved your blog, but love it even more after your opening of Great Harvest. 🙂
Also, you seem to have a such a healthy attitude towards eating, and not eating mindlessly at night. I strggle with eating too much late at night, and was wondering if you had any advice for not doing so? thanks!

I have a tough love approach to questions like this – just don’t do it!! You have to make the decision that you’d like to make a positive change and once you do it’s easy. You can trick yourself with things like brushing your teeth or not stocking your fridge, but when it comes down to it you have to realize that mindless snacking is not something you want or need to be doing.

        +1

Also take a look at what you’re eating throughout the day. Are you physically or mentally hungry at night? Are you eating enough fruits/veggies/whole grains/lean proteins throughout the day?

Sometimes keeping a journal for a couple of days will help you realize what’s causing you to want to eat, whether that’s an emotional reason or a physical hunger reason.

thank you Kath. You are right that I need to “want” to make that change. When the decision seems so black or white, it makes it much easier to want to make that positive change.

    Hi Kath,

Do you have suggestions for a breakfast that is good for someone with no appetite in the morning? I eat six times a day, but breakfast is hard.I need the calories, but everything is so unapealing or heavy. Particularly since I have a very weak digestive system.

I’m definitely a ‘3 big meals a day with a small snack’ kind of girl, too. I used to do the 6 meals a day thing when I was working with a personal trainer but the planning was such a pain in the butt. I kept thinking about figuring out the next snack! sitting down to a BIG meal is so much fun. 🙂

Thanks for coming out & slicing this morning. Knowing there was going to be yummy bread at the end made that hot run a lot easier. You should register for the race if you can. It fills up super fast & you can always back out if you need to slice. There is always a waiting list so it is not a big deal if you decide not to run it.

I’m such a grazer – it actually helps me to avoid overeating as when I have a snack or meal I just think ‘I have more food coming up really soon’.

This mightn’t work for everyone and I still need to be mindful but this way of eating definitely suits me best.
