Shark Attack

See any sharks?

IMG_6613Blog

We just finished a lengthy discussion of The Raw Shark Texts. After over an hour, we still can’t come to any conclusions on the plot. It was an interesting book for sure. I loved all parts about it – except the plot! I am a stickler for plot, so that was an unfortunate thing not to love ; )

IMG_6615Blog

This afternoon we went out to see the ocean – it’s about time!

IMG_6625BlogIMG_6617BlogIMG_6623BlogIMG_6622Blog

I also am now the family photographer!! More headshots were requested – including the inn’s owner, Rod!

After a chilly golf cart ride, it was time to roast by the fire

IMG_6643Blog

Cocktail hour is received very well with the warmth and cozy flames

IMG_6626Blog

We had a figgy brie, sliced Creminelli salami and crackers

IMG_6628Blog

As well as some Hint Of Lime chips with leftover dippers

IMG_6630Blog

Matt served one his first homebrews – the Maple Nut Squirrale, a rich, sweet, high alcohol brown ale

I had a taste – yum! And then switched to a little bit of red wine

IMG_6647Blog

Dinner tonight has been in the making for weeks – Linguini in a Red Clam Sauce as inspired by this recipe I made a while back.

IMG_6661Blog

IMG_6655Blog

Served with a side salad with bell peppers, walnuts, cranberries, blue cheese and a homemade balsamic and herby Great Harvest Warrenton bread!

During book club we all dug into the bottomless tin of Christmas cookies! Pumpkin cups, GH chocolate babka, gingerbread squares.

I also meant to post this photo after lunch – a Christmas M&M handful eaten E.T. style!

KERF UPLOAD14Blog

We depart early tomorrow morning. I had hoped to get in a run, but I’m thinking sleeping in sounds more fun at the moment!

See you for sunrise…

Forgive me is this a silly question but how can you like all the parts of the book but not the plot? It has been a while since I have done a book report or joined a book club but it seems like all the “parts” of the book (the characters, the setting, the language) make up the plot.

I disagree! I think you can like the writing style, characters, concept, themes but dislike the direction the author takes with the series of events that occur

So true. I’ve found myself in love with a book’s characters before only to be disappointed by the story about them.
I much prefer to read a book that has well developed characters and/or setting but a sub-par plot than the other way around. If I don’t connect with the characters in a book then I’m not going to love it.
