Rude Awakening

Days when I have to wake up to an alarm clock

Clock this !
are never as fun. I am so spoiled to have a flexible sleep schedule most days. But today we have a super fun event to attend and had to get up and going.

Alarm clock blared.

THEN, my car alarm Autorandomly went off!?

It was like the car knew I was awake. I accidentally put my car keys (and remote) in the dryer yesterday and I think that messed with one of the sensors. Hopefully it won’t happen again, or we’ll get kicked out of the neighborhood!

I did not want to run this morning. But who does when they’re lying in bed!? I used my visualization technique to think about how I’d feel if I went or if I didn’t. If I’d want to run in the afternoon (which is never as successful) or just take a day off. Ultimately visualization won and I started getting dressed. Once I was in my workout clothes, I was pumped to go! Always works.

Had half a trail mix bar before we left. I didn’t care for this one.

During our 4.8 miles, Matt and I discussed what to have for breakfast and the fact that we were running (ha!) 45 minutes behind schedule. It was decided that cereal would be most appropriate. I really do enjoy bowls of cold cereal, but they are never as satisfying on lazy mornings, so sometimes I look forward to busy mornings as an excuse to have a bowl.

IMG_1649

Today’s bowl, however, featured steamed milk made by Matt while I showered! He heated 2 cups of milk for us on the stove-top to 150* (and turned off the heat then so it wouldn’t burn).

IMG_1644

It was definitely fun not to have COLD cold cereal!

My bowl was an awesome mix. I find with cereal the more textures I can get the more I enjoy the eating process and don’t just wolf it down

IMG_1652

Here’s what my buckwheat looks like. I’m positive it’s toasted, and it’s got a nice roasty crunch to it! Perfect for the cereal bowl.

IMG_1646

Into the bowl:

  • ~1/4 cup Ancient Grains granola
  • ~1/4 cup wheatberries (cooked)
  • ~1/4 cup Cheerios sample
  • ~1/4 cup POM seeds
  • ~2 tbsp buckwheat
  • ~1 tbsp oats
  • ~1 tbsp flax
  • ~1 tbsp coconut
  • ~1 cup milk

Café!

We are going to a vineyard for a blind wine tasting!!! It’s a press event and I am thrilled to be invited. More details to come! [PS. Spitting WILL be involved today!]

Car alarms and running late are the perfet excuse for a bowl of cereal, and what a concept to heat the milk! So seasonal 😉 Enjoy your day – can’t wait to hear about the wine tasting, and spitting haha!

Great idea on the steamed milk. I will have to try that when cereal is the only option! Have fun today! When wine tasting is involved, I am guessing that is a given!

I agree the steamed milk is a very good idea.

It always intrigues me how people can run after just having a small snack before going. I always feel like I have NO FUEL or energy if I don’t eat something more substantial… or is it just in my head? I have a fear of passing out or something if I don’t have enough fuel… especially if I’m miles from home.

    Non-cold cereal is genius.

I’m about to head out on my [late] morning run. You’re so right: putting on the gear and dressing the part always helps me get out the door! 🙂

    Have fun!

Love the idea of warming milk for cereal…I don’t have cold cereal often, but when I do(if it’s in winter) the worst part of it is that when breakfast is done I feel…..cold! Great idea…
    Have fun at the vineyard!

I like the idea of having warm milk over cold cereal. I love cold cereal but its not as satisfying in chillier weather because it lacks the warmth. Great idea!

Looking forward to hearing about the blind wine tasting. I’ve only been to one wine tasting and one mead tasting, but your California trip and other vineyard visits makes me want to try them more. The only thing I don’t like is when you’re the only ones there, so you feel like you’re being judged and watched.

Oh I’m so happy to see I’m not the only one who needs different textures in my cold cereal! If I don’t have a mix I get too bored and then don’t feel satisfied at all. I need some crunch, some surprises, a nice mix 🙂 I’ve never tried steam milk, though. I think that should be my next endeavor.

I myself just had some cereal with warm milk! I liked holding on to the warm bowl to warm my hands just as much as I enjoyed the warm goodness going in to my stomach!
What a thought to put granola on bread. A good crunchy addition to a soft slice!
