Rockin’ Poppin’ Picnic

We had SO MUCH FUN tonight thanks to our fun group of friends – new and old!

IMG_8433 (1024x768)

Matt and I got to our spot around 6:30 and cracked open the wine – one my dad gave us that was awesome

IMG_8412 (1024x768) IMG_8413 (1024x768)

IMG_8414 (1024x768)

Then Diana arrived to take our photograph!

IMG_8415 (1024x768)

Soon after everyone else arrived to make the night a memorable festive event with a fun assortment of goodies –

IMG_8422 (1024x768)

Gazpacho

IMG_8416 (1024x768)

with homemade croutons (good bread tossed in EVOO and salt and cooked at 350* for about 20 minutes)

IMG_8417 (1024x768)

Caitlin’s couscous caprese salad

IMG_8426 (1024x768)

+ Kelsey’s pasta salad

IMG_8418 (1024x768)

+ biscotti and Sun Chips + pita chips + sopresatta + provolone + gorgonzola spread

IMG_8421 (1024x768) IMG_8419 (1024x768) IMG_8420 (1024x768)

Matt and I shared a gazpacho cup

IMG_8424 (1024x768)

And we shared this plate of salads – no clue how much I ate. We had seconds. I probably had half of this?

IMG_8434 (1024x768)

What was REALLY exciting was that I went over to the Sonny Side Up spread to check out their picnic. Tonight was the Italian picnic and these folks went ALL OUT!! We thought we had a chance of winning the picnic contest for wearing green + red. Um, I don’t think we had the slightest chance!

IMG_8427 (1024x768)

IMG_8430 (1024x768)

And they even promised me a slice of this to-die-for cake!!!!

IMG_8431 (1024x768)

IMG_8428 (1024x768)

I went back to our blanket and had more wine

IMG_8435 (1024x768)

And Conor brought out the Italian donuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IMG_8436 (1024x768)

He is in culinary school at Johnson & Wales and made these from scratch this afternoon – including the three dipping sauces: raspberry, spicy chocolate and raspberry ganache.

IMG_8437 (1024x768)

I had to try each, but I split a donut in half to do so. The donuts were amazing – light as air (and I think their name means that?)

IMG_8438 (1024x768)

Delicious enough to lick the plate! What would my mom say!?!?!?

IMG_8440 (1024x768)

And you bet I went back for that cake!!!!! The Sonny Side Up group was so generous to give me a slice and a half, which I shared with my group. I ate all of the icing off of the slice. (FYI, Matt has interrupted this post twice to say “Why are you smiling!?” as I type – I guess I just love blogging about cake!)

IMG_8442 (1024x768)

Unfortunately Thankfully Caitlin and Jason – our new friends fresh to the Carolinas from Boston – brought an extra bottle of wine (Italian!!) that saved us from being dehydrated 😉

IMG_8443 (1024x768)

One more splash – x2!!

IMG_8444 (1024x768)

And I can’t say my hand didn’t dip into these

IMG_8445 (1024x768)

It was an awesome summer night and I’m so sad the Summer Pops are over till next year 🙁 Thanks to all of our friends for coming!!

Off to chug water and snuggle with my guy!!

This picture of you licking the plate made me TOTALLY laugh! My parents taught college Sunday School and whenever we had them over for Sunday lunch, my mom would take her dessert plate and say “If you weren’t here I would lick this clean!” So funny!

Even with all that great food, I couldn’t have resisted sunchips either. They’re the bomb.

That sounds like such a fun night. A perfect way to kick off the coming week. Enjoy!

Hi Kath. I’ve seen you get asked lots of questions about tracking food and exercise and I was wondering if you would mention my Flog giveaway (http://eatventures.wordpress.com/2009/06/29/welcome-to-my-1st-giveaway/) to any readers who ask. The book is more detailed than what you (or I) use, but I think it could be helpful to some.

Guys, given the Italian theme of the buffets, it is obviously Italian Creme Cake. 😀 Italian creme cake is a vanilla cake made with coconut, pecans, and cream cheese frosting. It is also frigging DELICIOUS.
