Pedal Pusher

I’ve got an early lunch meeting today, so I decided to do exercise first thing. And since I haven’t been to cycle since AFRICA I decided today would be a good day.

I got up an knew I’d be gone for about an hour and a half, so I had a snack: Chocolate Vanilla Almond Butter on a graham cracker. Nut butters always sit well with me during exercise, but I guess I am used to not eating because even this little guy felt a little heavy in my stomach at first –

I biked to the gym (in sunshine –

this !
yay!) and arrived just in time for a 45-minute cycle class. I didn’t feel like I was pushing myself that hard, but my HRM had me in the 150-160 bpm, so it turned out to be a nice burn.

I biked home, showered and had a lighter breakfast because of my early lunch –

  • Vanilla Oikos
  • ~8 blackberries
  • Sprinkle coconut
  • ~1/3 cup+ muesli Kelsey gave me a while back. It was awesome! The oats were raw, but I think they were toasted lightly because they had a great crunchy.
  • Drizzle honey

Delish!

I’m meeting my internship supervisor at 11. Not sure when or where we’re going to lunch, but I’m excited for a surprise!

Have a terrific Tuesday!

I haven’t been to cycle in AGES either! I can’t wait to go again. I didn’t have classes for awhile because they just go through my school. But cycle, here I come! 🙂

I just got done with a bike ride myself. LOVE IT. Although I still think cycle classes are a bit too intense for me!

That looks great! Can i just have you come be my personal chef?? haha! just kidding…but I really need to get the hang of this. Out of curiousity, do you find it’s pretty expensive to have all of these different foods and ingredients around the house all the time? What does a typical grocery trip look like for you?

Sounds like you got a good workout in! I wish I was close enough to bike to a gym (though that would involve buying a bike AND getting a gym membership, so I guess I’m okay).

Breakfast looks amazing, as usual. I wish we had more kinds of yogurt here in Canada as there are in the states. I definitely like meusli with yogurt … I had it with oatmeal this morning and it was okay … I like it when the oats get soft in the yogurt, though.

I love Stonyfield Oikos! I participated in a focus group for them back in November and was very impressed with the brand. I don’t usually like flavored yogurts – but their vanilla and blueberry varieties are really good. I think Greek yogurt is one of my top 10 favorite foods 🙂

Oikos rocks my world. I love the plain, but the honey knocked my socks off. I didn’t even think I liked honey until then.

Maybe your snack was too sugary for a pre-workout bite? I still struggle with trying to decide if I should eat first thing in the AM before I work out…on weekends I usually do, because I can take 30 min or so to digest, but on weekdays, I want to get up and out but I know I have a better workout if I don’t go on an empty stomach, regardless of hunger. Too bad I have to get up and go to that job thing LOL

    Ah, life’s problems 🙂

    Hi Kath,
I also exercise in the morning before eating, and I was wondering if this has a different affect on metabolism or fat burn than if I were to exercise after having eaten?

    Thanks!

    Holly ,
They were a gift to her many years ago, so unfortunately, no.

    Lauren ,
Our grocery bill is actually pretty low compared to how much I used to spend. Last November I did a challenge to keep groceries under $126 for a month and met the challenge – it really opened my eyes to how much was sneaking in my cart. Now I try to only buy what I need, and of course eating vegetarian most nights of the week really helps a lot. It also helps that we get our bread free and I do get a lot of samples in the mail, but most of them are packaged like cereals and bars. I splurge on yogurt, organic milk, and occasional cheeses and save by buying produce + fruit that’s on sale and minimal meat, which is SO expensive.

Meghan (Making Love In The Kitchen),
    Great post 🙂

    ReluctantWriter ,
    Thank you and welcome!

    Anne ,
No – it’s all about your stomach’s individual preference. You don’t need to eat before a workout if you’re not going to be pushing yourself for more than an hour and a half and aren’t hungry. I find in the morning when I’ll be back in an hour or so that a glass of water is all it takes for me to delay hunger until I am finished and can sit down to a nice breakfast.

Thanks for that info, Kath! Under $126 for a month is incredible for eating so well. I have my weekly shopping trip on friday, so I’ll see how this goes. 🙂
