One Straw At A Time

Foodblog-4005

This awesome crafty sign was Matt’s dad gift! It’s from the Bele Chere festival in Asheville that Mark and Cheryl go to every year (and once we did too!) How cool!

Foodblog-4006

I had a bit of a burnin’ rubber afternoon in my automobile. I’m trying to get all kinds of paperwork for the fall complete now so I can spend 99.9% of my time with the baby when he’s here and not worry about household things. I’m renewing my passport that is about to expire and had to run around town getting a new photo made, going to the post office and getting something else notarized this afternoon. Lots of errands this week – and they are now all complete!

After that, our doula came over for a “you’re now on call” meeting! We went over a few labor positions and talked about what to expect. She thinks I will be on time or a few days late. I wish I had a crystal ball! My mom just told me that she was 10 days early and I was 3 days early….is it genetic!?

Foodblog-4013

We had tons of leftovers in the fridge and had “eat what you want” night for dinner. I heated up our Pesto Ricotta Pasta with tomatoes and goat cheese

Foodblog-4010

And Matt had stuffed peppers, veggies, millet, hummus and cheese.

Foodblog-4009

And then I spent the rest of the evening building our baby bird’s nest, one straw at a time.

Foodblog-27

If you’ve seen my laundry video, you can imagine what the baby’s drawers looked like. I had only washed the newborn stuff and everything else for 3 months and beyond was just thrown in the bottom drawer! Now everything is washed and sorted and packed by size! Just a few weeks ago I wondered if we had enough clothes – and all of a sudden thanks to my friend Katherine’s loan and the new clothes that came today, we’re all set! [Hi Feet!]

Foodblog-48

We watched the Olympics while I folded, but it’s just not the same now that I know it’s over!

A while later, I made an evening snack that I call a Milkshake Mug Mash!

Foodblog-4014

Take about half a cup of Breyers Vanilla and mix it with about 1/4 cup milk and whatever mixins you like – tonight it was fresh peach. Then you mash it all together into a milkshake with your spoon! Dilute the ice cream, but still get the creamy flavor.

Foodblog-4016

We had planned to go to Fridays tonight, but we just never got our act together to go. I think we both just needed a night in to rest. I’m planning to spend the rest of it reading in bed!

You’re in the waiting game now, waiting for that wonderful baby boy! Whenever he gets here is lucky to have such a great mom waiting for him. BTW-I’m probably an idiot, but I can’t figure out what the sign says. Any hints?

Are you scared of all the things coming/happening? You must be, and at the same time it is so trerribly exciting/life changing at the same time.

I love seeing how excited Matt has been over the recent weeks 🙂

Before reading I thought Matt was holding what you’ve been saying he made for the baby. I was perplexed.

When I first saw the picture with Matt and his sign I thought that’s what he made for the baby. I was a little confused but once I read the post it cleared that up fast.

Ha, I do that milkshake mug mash thing all the time. When I was a little kid, my nanny used to always mix ice cream with milk and I grew a taste for it, I guess.

With two of my kids I knew the exact day that I conceived because my husband was away at grad school so we only saw each other one night a month. They were both born exactly 40 weeks to the day even though they were both a few days late according to the due date I was given. So excited for you!

The home stretch right before having a baby can be one of the most exciting times in your life!!! I am so glad you are enjoying it and getting everything you want to get done, done. I am excited for you and Matt. There is NOTHING like bringing home your first baby. I remember it like it was yesterday…only it wasn’t. Almost 11 years ago we brought home our first born. A boy, and a really, really easy baby boy. He slept ALL.THE.TIME. It was awesome and so fun….good luck. Can’t wait to hear how things go. SOOO excited for you guys.
