One For Me, One For Banana

Morning!!

IMG_0027 (450x600)
I slept really well last night except for the HURRICANE of a night sweat that occurred early this morning. I used to get night sweats a lot, but I think gaining back a little weight in 2009 cured them (I think it was too low estrogen). I never get them any more – except in hotels!!

My room temp is set to 61 degrees (it’s pretty chilly in here) so I got under all the covers and woke up absolutely drenched. Sopping. I had to completely go to the other side of the bed (too bad I had a full instead of a king!) and somehow managed to dry off. Tonight I guess I’ll have to remove a blanket. Night sweats are so weird because you don’t wake up until you’re soaked. It’s not a light sweat, it’s a river.

Gross!!!

Otherwise, a good morning!

IMG_0026 (600x450)

I picked up an Awake Tea Misto from the Sbux in the lobby

IMG_0032 (600x450)

And combined that with a banana I brought from home and a packet of Barney Butter from the extra swag stash!! Long time no see, BB!

IMG_0030 (600x450)

One for the banana..

IMG_0034 (450x600)

One for me!

IMG_0035 (600x450)

I’m sporting my Five Bamboo HLS hoodie this morning as Hangry and I go to yoga! Five Bamboo sent the 5 of us founders these hoodies – they are unbelievably comfy!

IMG_0040 (450x600)

Peace out!

Ack…night sweats are the worst. Usually only my shirt gets soaked, but I have heard some people have to change their sheets in the middle of the night. Ahhhh! I actually went to the doctor to get some blood work done when I started getting regular night sweats about 8 months ago. All the tests came back normal. My doctor said it could be stress related, but I still think that it is hormonal (even though they checked them).

I haven’t been getting as many lately…thank goodness!!

Yes, me too!!!! I didn’t think anyone ever got these too, I feel so much less strange knowing that I am not the only one! I went to the doctor and had blood work and chest xrays done too (apparently it’s a symptom of lymphoma, yikes!) and nothing came back abnormal either. I’ve never heard it could be related to estrogen?? I used to get them every single night, but now that you mentioned it, I guess I was quite a bit skinnier then too… hmmm…. weird?

I’m glad to read about this on the blog and this comment! I’ve been getting them recently and I’ve NEVER had them before.. hormones make a lot of sense. I’m reluctant to want to get it checked out as my insurance doesn’t need another reason to jack up my rates again 😉

Night sweats in hotels…sorry you had a time of it. My theory with that is that when I travel/airplanes, I retain fluids and then at night it all comes out…for me, it’s usually multiple trips to the little girls’ room. Just my own theory but it happens to me pretty much every time I ride planes. I guess you just sweat it out 🙂

There isn’t a difference. They just started trying to sell more by marketing them as Tea Lattes, using fancy tea bags. They’re essentially the same thing: tea bag, 1/2 water, 1/2 steamed milk. Lattes get topped off with foam.

Mention of profuse night sweats in a hotel bed made me wonder. Will I ever sleep in another hotel bed without freaking out?! I don’t know. I think I might have to find a bed cover that has a protective lining to take along. But, that does not sound very efficient for travel by plane. Yikes!

haha…you know, I am like a little kid when it comes to bananas. I love them….yellow, but the minute I see a brown spot, I’m done. The texture changes and they become to sweet for my taste. Anyone else like that or just weird me? 🙂

I am so curious about night sweats and would love to hear any information you have on them! I get them ALL the time (probably about once per week on average, although sometimes they’ll be multiple nights in a row and sometimes I won’t get them for a few weeks). It is the same kind you described – sheets SOAKED (must change clothes and lay a towel down or change the sheets). I have many theories, but I’ve never been able to isolate the cause since all my “theories” happen frequently – could it be after I ate/ snacked too late at night, after I travel (I travel and sleep in hotels every Monday-Thursday for work), a hormone-related imbalance, a hard workout, body fighting off a cold or illness? Anxious to hear your feedback!!!! Thanks!

this post should have been titled “night sweats”!! I too, used to get some pretty unreal night sweats (change the sheets, etc.). This was when I was going through my eating issues, although I do occasionally get them, even now when I am doing so much better. I had never heard they were related to low estrogen … but it does make me wonder. Our hormonal balance is affected by so many variables… food, travel, stress, etc. I second everyone’s comments requesting more information!! Or maybe other readers have more info?
(and i also respect that this- as well as all other “body issues” can be such a touchy subject for many)

When I did an online search of “night sweats”, I read some scary stories, so I made sure to talk to my doctor about them. Two reasons my doctor gave me include a hormonal imbalance or a symptom of a chest infection. Both of those tests came back normal for me. I’m still not sure about the hormones though because when I was keeping track, the night sweats seemed to occur at certain times during the month. She also mentioned that it could be stress related…but isn’t everything stress related?!?

Some of the other readers mentioned that it could be related to food…I never thought of that one!

Even when I went to my DR she didnt know exactly what would cause it, but I did have to switch BC bc my estrogen levels were way too low. So that makes complete sense now!! Kinda not sure how I feel about my dr now if its something as simple as that…

I get night sweats sometimes, too. They actually make sheets for athletes because they typically have night sweats due to their body recovering in the evening. The sheets are super duper expensive but they seem worth it!

I get sweaty on any sheets that are a cotton/polyester blend, as most hotel sheets are. I need my 100% cotton sheets!!

Hm.. I’m going to test this theory. I have a blend on my bed right now and will switch out to 100% cotton and see what happens. Anything to stop them! 😉

Haha I love your method of “one for the banana, one for me.”

Except I might be too greedy to share with the banana 😉

The whole night sweat thing is pretty common in hotels. Most hotels have a motion sensor that controls the air conditioning- since you’re not up and walking around while you’re asleep, the air conditioner will usually kick off, leaving you super hot when you wake up. You might want to ask someone at the front desk to set the thermostat where you can adjust it manually instead of letting the thermostat and the motion sensor handle it. It usually takes just a second, and it’s so worth it to not wake up with a headache.

On another note, cute hoodie! Have fun!

I woke up drenched too, thinking about how many people probably sweat like this in hotel beds… they should probably put plastic liners down

Wowww night sweats? That must not be fun at all. That means you would also have to clean the sheets a lot more often!

Sorry bout the test, this website wouldn’t let me post a comment earlier. Just FYI, Kath and anyone else suffering from night sweats in their late twenties — PLEASE see your ob/gyn, tell them about this, and have a full workup done! I speak from sad, sorry experience — both my cousin and I are in early menopause. Night sweats can be an early indication that your estrogen levels are low, follicle stimulating hormone is getting higher, and that your ovarian levels are dwindling before their time, so it becomes very, very difficult to have a baby. We both suffered heartbreaking infertility — I was extremely lucky to have my one wonderful miracle child after years of emotionally devastating, painful, and expensive fertility treatments — but she wasn’t so lucky. I had perfect, textbook periods the whole time I was diagosed as being in perimenopause (in my thirties), so don’t use that as an indicator. PLEASE get checked out.

    Hugs, M

I’m sorry to hear about your troubles M. I did talk to my doctor about it, and no longer have the sweats. I’m almost positive it was related to body fat.

I used to get night sweats all the time too! I hated having to change my bed sheets so often. 😛

If you still get them in hotels, it might be because they use polyester sheets – they don’t breathe as well as cotton!

I get horrible night sweats also….I have for about 5 years now and the doctors don’t know why??!! I am too young for menopause….hmmmm. I think that it is a “cycle” thing, that is what I have it narrowed down to. And I too get very very hot and wake up in a river of sweat. Anyway, you are not alone!! I’m happy to hear that I am not alone! Have a great trip.

    Re. night sweats:

I had my blood checked and talked to my doctor 2 years ago (when I was having the sweats) and she said it was likely a decrease in estrogen related to my weight loss. My hormone levels came back normal, but I had less fat than ever before and fat produces estrogen, so they are related. My doctor recommended taking Black Cohosh (a natural estrogen) which I did but didn’t really notice much difference. She said there wasn’t much else she could do other than replacement hormones.

Since gaining back a few to a comfortable maintenance level, I never have night sweats anymore – except in hotels! I blame the sheets…
