News From Karen

KAY-9902

You wouldn’t guess it from the glowing photo above, but our family received some bad news recently: Karen’s cancer has returned. She asked me to share her news with you all.

She fought endometrial cancer with a hysterectomy, radiation and chemo 2.5 years ago.

IMG_2698Blog this !

Sadly, she had some symptoms a few weeks ago that took her back to the doctor and an MRI uncovered a mass the size of an orange in her pelvis. Two lymph nodes are also cancerous as well. I spent Sunday night in the emergency room with her due to some severe back pain.

Foodblog-0187

This morning she’s in a very serious surgery to remove the three spots, and if all goes well she’ll be in the hospital for about a week. When she has recovered from surgery, hopefully about 6 weeks from now, she’ll undergo 6 more weeks of intensive radiation and likely a bit of chemo again. She is in very good hands at the University of Virginia.

Karen is an incredibly strong and positive woman, so we are all hoping for the best.

Please send all the positive vibes you can muster

I’m so sorry to hear about Karen, Kath. I’ll be thinking about you during this trying time. Karen will do great and beat this again! Can I send you the name of an herbalist that we use out of Ohio? He works wonders and I swear by the power of herbals. Let me know either way. Sending good vibes your way.

Kath – I’m sorry to hear her cancer returned. My FIL has been through an extremely rare battle with cranial nerve cancer – twice. He’s the only person to survive treatment…and he did it twice now. I know how difficult is is for a family to go through this, but the one thing I reminded everyone when he battled the second time around was the same thing I will tell you…I’m thankful she knew the signs and has a great medical team in place already (that takes some of the stress away). She has been there before, she fought, she won and she will again. Positive and strong vibes to you all!

I pray all goes well and I pray for your family as they hold you up during this time. When you feel down, just take a deep breath and reflect on Mazen’s lil face. 🙂

    I am so sorry.

Get “Forks Over Knives” for her ASAP and look into the anti-cancer regimen from Dr. Joel Fuhrman. Many cancer patients have made full recoveries. There are no guarantees but switching to a vegan diet or at least one with less than 5% of animal protein is the best thing she can do since animal protein helps promote cancer growth. She also needs lots of high nutrient food.

    Praying for your whole family.

    Heavenly Father,
What a blessing and delight you are to have brought this unique and beautiful blog of Kath’s into my life a year and a half ago when both she and I were pregnant. I do not know her personally but have grown to love her family from afar. Like all the other readers, I sunk when reading Kath’s words. Father you know how we ache when our loved ones and even strangers suffer. Only a Perfect Father could create such beings to bear one another’s burdens. Lord, would you place your loving hands on Karen and bring about your perfect healing into her body. Let not one cell remain in her body with cancer. Let complete and Divine healing transform what is broken to complete wholeness. Lord I pray for Karen to have thousands and thousands of more days to see her precious Mazen and other grandchildren bloom forth from this earth. Give Hope to Matt and Kath as they wrestle through this and give them a sense of trust in You that only You alone can produce within them. Lord, I renounce this cancer in Jesus name and pray for your healing touch to fill every part of Karen. In your precious name we pray. ~~Amen~~

Just found out that I have Cowden syndrome which is a genetic cancer disease and have to look at a prophalactic bilateral mastecomy and have yearly colonoscopies and endoscopies. Just hearing the words is life changing…to have cancer more than once is nothing short of devastating. I hope she feels comfortable just crying sometimes and not having to “kick it in” for others around her…..strength is good but exhausting……..

I am so sorry. I will think of her tomorrow as I am running in a 5 km run on our local airport runway to raise money for Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre…a free support centre. My neighbour and friend died in May of breast cancer…our neighbourhood is getting together with her family to help raise money for the centre. 🙂

Sending love and prayers and healing energy to Karen and your family. She always looks so sunny and full of life and is such a beautiful part of your family. She has so much to live for and is so well loved. Surely that will be a big boost to her recovery. (I’ve read some alternative medical newsletter articles recently that allude to a no sugar/carb diet helping to shut down cancer….a ketogenic diet…I think Dr. Mercola’s website had one of the articles….check it out). I will certainly pray for her. Dr. Scribner with Carilion, in Roanoke, is top notch. My understanding is that he is nationally known for his work in GYN oncology.

I haven’t checked in for a while … but when I did, I saw Karen’s news and remembered how inspired I was when she was going through her treatments. I’m both saddened by the news, but also full of hope that she will beat this! You are so fortunate and BLESSED to have her in your life.

I don’t know if you remember me, but I emailed you two years ago after my Mom was diagnosed with uterine/endometrial cancer. Your post about bleeding post-menopause was the reason why hers was caught so fast. She too had a complete hysterectomy. You put me into contact with Karen and I emailed a lot with her during this difficult time, and she was SUCH a comfort to me and my Mom. I am devastated to hear this. Karen is such a great lady. Sending lots of love and prayers her way <3

If possible, would you mind emailing me her symptoms? I’m worried now, and just want to be able to watch out for stuff… My Mom has been having some abdominal pain/issues the past few months.

Lauren, I was having pressure and thought I had a bladder infection. Doc did exam and thought he felt something different. Your Mom definitely needs a rectal and vaginal exam. If Doc feels something, he’s likely to order MRI. Don’t waste any time. Karen

I’ve been behind on your blog posts and was just catching up! Was so sorry to hear this news. Everytime I see Karen on your blog I can tell she brings so much light into a room with her. I’ve enjoyed seeing you share her fun, funky personality/style with the blog world. She seems like a pretty kick ass mother in law, and all around woman. Karen, you can do this again- fight this battle. I’ll be sending good vibes you and your families way.
