New Products For Your Kitchen

#1

Foodblog-8610

I feel bad starting off the post with a product that most of you will not be able to buy. New friend Stephanie has started an ice cream sandwich business here in Charlottesville. She sells at the Meade Park Farmer’s Market and has the most amazing Sweet Sandies I’ve ever had! {Her homemade pop tarts are really good too.}

Foodblog-8609

Just check out these flavors:

Foodblog-175024

We have tried the Earl Grey, Honey Lavender, S’mores and Toasted Coconut and have more in my freezer waiting. I can’t say enough “sooooooo goods” about them all!! Stephanie makes her ice cream in small batches from scratch and the ingredients are obviously as fresh as can be. The cookies are buttery and moist and still soft even when frozen so these make the perfect after-dinner treat to share with Matt when broken in half. We are obsessed!

Foodblog-8611

My very favorite has been the S’mores. The marshmallow ice cream is actually made with real toasted marshmallows and not only does the flavor come through, but the texture of the ice cream is fluffy – just like a marshmallow! So incredible that I ordered a custom pint the following week. Best ice cream ever!

Foodblog-8612

Come to Cville and visit me and we can enjoy these incredible sweet sandies together!

You know I have quite the cloth napkin, placemat and fabric collection. For my sister’s wedding she covered the tables with these gorgeous custom napkins from Dot and Army’s Etsy Store. Jennifer has so many cute designs at great prices. I love the design that Larbs carried throughout all of the wedding details.

Foodblog-8644

It ended up being less expensive for her to buy them than to rent them, so she had 100 napkins leftover after the wedding. Guess who needs to host a dinner party for 20 people now!

Another local Cville company is making great food: Nouri bars are like a blend of Larabars and Toms – every bar makes a great snack and also feeds a child a hot meal in school. {Read more about how this is accomplished here.} They have already donated about 13,000 meals and counting.

image

Nouri was selected to be a part of  UVA’s Innovation Lab for the summer and was recently chosen as one of Darden Business School’s most promising startups. They asked me to try out their flavors and share them with you all. The bars are made with organic ingredients from the USA, they are gluten-free and vegan, and the best part: shipping is freeeee!

I loved the Creamy Cashew! It was almost cookie like in flavor with cashew butter, chocolate chips and vanilla. But the Apple Cinnamon and Peanut Butter + Wild Cherry were both excellent – loved the creative flavor combinations. And they are made with hemp protein so there is a bit more than the average date bar  (~6 grams).

Next up: Trader Joe’s Honey Roasted Sliced Almonds. My sister turned me on to these during her wedding week and I am now obsessed. So good on salads! So toasty crunchy!

I’m on a huge Herbs de Provence kick this summer, and I found this big jar of dried herbs at Homegoods. I’ve been putting it in everything from steamed veggies for Mazen to pasta salad. I also have plans to roll a log of goat cheese in it soon!

New at Target: the Feed line! My white casserole dish was accidentally broken, so I went out for a replacement. Love the vintage-y Americana look of everything Feed. I might need to go back for more. Like the Nouri bars, the bonus is that everything you purchase helps provide meals to families in need across America.

Thanks for posting all these items- I need a dish like that so I will check out Target. I love when you promote local products, even if I can’t snag them! I’ll just have to take a trip to visit some friends from Cville soon! And I am obsessed with those honey roasted sliced almonds from TJoes.. I am waiting for them to come to Denver, but in the meantime, my parents have kept me well stocked when they’ve visited!

I LOOOOVE all of those napkins and the crate. Dreamy!

I would like some chocolate brownie ice cream, please! I just busted out my ice cream maker a few weeks ago and made some flavors from Jeni’s cookbook. Oh wow, can’t have that on hand much or I might as well slather it on my thighs and rump!

    Have a great weekend!

Wish I had some sweet sandies in my freezer!

You’ve been posting a lot more ‘lifestyle’ themes lately – just curious, since you’ve been away from 3x/day long enough to gain some perspective, where do you see your niche now? Also, have you considered merging Berf and Kerf now that it is all kind of a food, life, product review mash up?

I consider myself a “healthy food and lifestyle blogger.” They say to just write about what you like, so that’s what I do! I do think it would be nice to merge the blogs sometimes, but BERF is so expansive with pregnancy history that I think keeping them separate makes more sense from a technical/organization standpoint. I’d probably write on motherhood about the same pace there as I would here, so it’s kind of a wash (except for the hosting fees)

I have a real fondness for companies like Nouri Bars! What a great company to be able to support. I feel like anytime the food we buy leads to a greater impact somewhere else, it is great. I’m sure it is a bit more expensive, but I feel like those purchases are so very worth it!
