Move In Meredith

More college roommate action!!!!

IMG_6821Blog-2

I wish Meredith could just move up here and be townmates with me 🙂 [Roommates might be a little much – after all, I’d probably eat all of her frozen cookies! Wink wink!]

When she was here on Tuesday we mentioned the famous Beer Run and although she’s spent time in Cville, she had never been! For a beer lover like her, we made a second date to go to lunch.

IMG_6805Blog-2

I wasn’t really going to get a beer, but I was peer pressured by the two beerheads!

IMG_6806Blog

Plus the Bluegrass Brewing Bourbon Barrel Stout is always incredible.

IMG_6807Blog-2

I got a 10 ounce pour for just $3, and it was absolutely perfect with lunch!

IMG_6808Blog-2

Although I had eaten a date to tide me over after Body Pump, I was pretty darn starving by 1:30 when our sandwiches arrived!

IMG_6812Blog

I had the hummus + veggie sandwich, which was great. Although I longed for even more hummus!

IMG_6811BlogIMG_6814Blog

I was lucky to get a side salad since all of the typical sides contained onions. Imagine that!

IMG_6816Blog

Matt filled up on this massive plate of nachos with beans for lunch. I helped him out a bit because they were delicious!

IMG_6809Blog

We did a little beer shopping and then headed home for a quite afternoon of work, windows open and a slight breeze.

I need to get my clean on because Mrs. Clean is coming for dinner!

No I don’t mean it in a rude way. I’ve always been interested in your weight management and people’s ability to maintain weight loss in general. In other healthy food blogs they discuss this topic which you do not. Would it be different if I’d asked if you lost weight? Anyways you are not obligated to answer…just curious because you’ve stopped counting calories as you originally did and I wonder if that affects your overall weightloss

I think it would have been a lot less rude to just say that you’re curious if I’d share the ups and downs of my weight since maintenance. The way you worded it sounded like “You look bigger. Can you explain why that might be.”

I think it’s great that you don’t mention your weight as women do TOO much. You are healthy and active and look great and happy. That is what is important. I don’t understand her question either…I would take it the same way that Kath took it, that I look bigger. Why do you need to talk about your weight maintenance when your life style shows how to maintain a healthy mind and body. Keep up just what you are doing!

            Kath,

You should be so proud of yourself that you have matured as much as you have in your journey w/food; observing you evolve through your food chronicles has been awe-inspiring. Just a couple weeks ago you confirmed your great maturity when you stated (to paraphrase your comment) that you are likely five pounds higher than the weight you originally achieved through dieting. But, you are perfectly content maintaining your current weight b/c it allows you the freedom to fully enjoy your foodie life, w/out the pressure to deny yourself culinary pleasures to maintain some idealistic weight. The fact that you were guessing about your weight further confirmed that you were unconcerned w/the exact number on the scale, and thus were not fretting or unduly fixating on your weight, but rather more focused on how you felt and your overall happiness.

You are a role model for living a highly active life and consistent attention to proper nutrition, free of all the too common excesses. You deserve praise for refusing to dissect your weight or obsess about a couple of not-perfect food/drink choices on your blog. Your body is the epitomy of strength and fitness.

Just keep rockin’ on, my friend 🙂

            Karen

I agree with this 100% percent.

I’m someone who has struggled with my self image, food and exercise for a long time; and I’m finally finding a balance in moderation. Kath has been an incredible inspiration in my fitness pursuits. Also, as someone looking into both operating my own business or obtaining a degree in nutrition: Kath has become an inspiration in my life pursuits.

Kath, I really appreciate your discussion of health/fitness without weight coming into it. I feel that there are a lot of blogs out there that discuss scale weight, for those interested in the matter; and I’m glad that you don’t talk about that number. I’m also glad that you don’t talk about calories. I can look at your blog and see variety of healthy meals and indulgences, and I really don’t need to know how much you eat. You’re a grown up and you obviously look like you know what you’re doing.

Someone is always going to have something negative to say. If you believe what other people say or let it affect you – then you need to start looking in yourself. Kath seems pretty secure – I don’t think one little comment is going to affect her that much?! Especially with good friends, a good hubby – and good beer abound! 🙂

I took Morgan’s comment as poking fun because that looked like a Big Lunch! Heck, that would have put 2 lbs on me easily after that sitting. Different views from different folks I guess. I think you all were a bit harsh.

I don’t think a veggie + hummus sandwich and side salad was that big of a lunch!?

I agree – I actually don’t think you eat all that much! Honestly. I am a pig then 😉 (half-hearted smile cause true!).

But, I don’t come out and say anything because it’s your life and everyone is different. Any problems I have with it are MY own problems and insecurities. Everybody is different – and our eating habits definitely change and evolve with time.

Wow! Not that i need to get into this but I was thinking that the lunch was PERFECTLY balanced. Defintily not too much at all.

I think you are a very good inspiration too! I am so sorry for all the crap you might have to go through with the blog! Just remember you can’t please everyone! You look FAB and you obvoiously have to do that through maintaing a healthy-GOOD-sized calorie diet good for YOU! Everyone is diff. ahah. veggie sandich with salad is not too big at ALL!

as for Morgan’s comment. It came across EXTREMELY rude. However, I don’t think she meant it that way. I think she was just curious!! : )

Everyone goes up a few pounds down a few sometimes! You look fab and I couldnt tell a difference even if you did! Health is what matters! NOT a weight or jean size!
          LOVE YA KATH! 🙂

You look absolutely gorgeous in orange and I love that you wore that color for your bakery marketing photos. I read the above rude comment and I just have to say that was absolutely uncalled for. You’re amazingly beautiful, confident, fit, smart, funny, witty, loving, and an amazing blogger. My first ever food blog I read was Eat Like Me at Self.com, and I found your blog there, I think you left a comment on her blog? Anyway, I don’t comment here much but I’ve read your blog since then (5+ years now?), and you’re one of the reasons I’ve become such a healthier person. I’ve battled an eating disorder for most of my 20’s and it was your blog that helped me get healthier, to enjoy life again, and to eat real food. You’re an inspiration and an amazing woman, remember that and all the lives you’ve had a positive influence on 🙂

Just wanted to say that I think you are gorgous. It’s horrible that your appearance even has to be a topic of discussion on your blog though. By the looks of you eats and by the sound of your exercise – I’d say you are very healthy! 🙂

    Those nachos look amazing!!

I don’t know why some people are so hung up on weight and numbers; weight is not an indication of overall health and agility. And for vanity purposes Its even less mention-worthy.

I had stout for the first time a few months and was blown away by its rich, smoky, chocolatey flavours. You’ve reminded me I should look for more 🙂

    Hi Kath,
    WTF?! That was rude…
I’ve been reading for a while but have never stopped to comment. I just want to say that I think you are an awesome role model for girls and women– ESPECIALLY since a lot of times healthy living blogs and websites attract those with eating disorders or those who have had an ED in the past. Anyway, I may be wrong, but I couldn’t help to think that your reader’s rude question came from her desire to negatively analyze the bodies of others because she probably has so much angst towards her own body. You show that it is healthy to exercise and eat clean and not to be emaciated and obsessed with the scale. I think you are the picture of a strength and health which is everything that this community is about….

Morgan is one of the reasons I dislike so many women. We need to support and lift each other UP, not bring each other down with comparisons and negativity.

Just now getting around to reading this post. First and foremost, this is my favorite blog and the one I look forward to reading everyday. I love your pictures, outlook on life, and general blogging style. That being said, I do find that you are a rather defensive blogger, and do not respond well to criticism. I do find Morgan’s comment rude (and agree with you Kath that there are better ways to ask her question), but the honest truth is that you HAVE gained a little bit of weight. You still look fabulous and are obviously in terrific shape, but since this is a food blog, and you do make conscious decisions to be healthy, is it really that awful if someone comments on the obvious? Her comment was not terribly off-topic – I would understand your hostility more if this was a fashion blog, or a mommy blog, or anything that does not deal with healthy living and healthy food.
