Morning Massage

FINALLY got in some YogaDownload!! After checking my emails in bed, I came down for some stretching. 30 minutes of Hot-Power Fusion later, ahhhh. My body felt so much more awake. My #1 favorite thing about yoga is what it does to my muscles. It’s almost as good as massage. I’m hoping with the start of the semester to get back into 20 minutes everyday or 45 every other.

Stillness is necessary in order to appreciate movement.

So true. Just have foot surgery to understand that one!

Of course Ashley’s ota.bar was all I wanted for breakfast. It was perfection crumbled over yogurt!

IMG_1070 (640x480)

  • 1 huge overripe plum, chopped
  • 1 container Chobani plain
  • 1 crumbled ota.bar
  • 1 blog blob hazelnut butter

The ota.bar was incredible – perfectly sweet with really, really great chew.

IMG_1069 (640x480)

On the side I dipped into my swag bag for some Amazing Grass. Ya’ll know I am not convinced that this stuff gives me super powers, but what I will admit is that it has an amazing placebo effect. You just feel healthier by drinking it. I don’t think I ever notice a physical difference though. But I will enjoy going through my packets! I prefer it mixed with mostly milk, some water, and ice and I like the chocolate ones the best.

And how cool is this Glamour news on We Are The Real Deal. The woman is stunning! LOVE that Glamour is embracing all variations of the womanly body. It’s all about perspective.

I’ve got some Real Food Consultations to start on! Plus writing. Plus lots of summit paperwork. A mushroom recipe to develop. Hoping to mow the grass and clean the house today too! Thinking I’m going to call that my workout to simplify the day.

I just like the taste of the amazing grass chocolate powder.

LOL the guy at whole foods was trying to tell people that it would completely transform them and make them feel light as a feather and clear and all this other ridiculous stuff… so some lady asked me if I’d experienced any of that, having drank the stuff.

I didn’t want to embarrass the guy, so I just said, “Ummm, I don’t know, but it tastes good!”

Also, I really do love Amazing Grass, I’ve been drinking it regularly since June and I feel a difference in how I feel. More energy, clearer head (less foggy), and I was able to cut my morning caffine content from 2 cups to 1 cup. 🙂 I guess it could be the placebo effect that makes me feel better when I drink it regularly, but whatever it is I’ll take it! Truthfully, I almost hate to say “how good” I feel on it, like I’ll jinx my results!
I do think the key to feeling anything different is drinking it regularly.
LOL…and it could be that I started reading healthy food blogs and getting other helpful tips in June that has made a difference in how I feel as well! 🙂

That woman in the Glamour magazine is lovely, but I still wish that they could put in some “normal” sized women sometimes and not make a big deal about it. I

Why are the non-sized 0 models always in special features or special articles on loving your body, or feeling comfortable in your own skin, or “embracing your curves”?
It feels like the magaizines are saying “Hey, look at this one representation of a healthy but non-skinny beautiful woman! Okay, now we’re done with that for the next 6 months.”
Why can’t they just be in the normal fashion and beauty articles?

What do you think about airbrushing? There seems to be a lot of talk about it theses days. What did you think about what the editor of Self Magazine said?

“Stillness is necessary in order to appreciate movement.” This quote rings especially true with me… one of my high school friends is now a paraplegic after a freak swimming accident. He used to be a VERY active guy – he played soccer, ran track, and was an accomplished curler. It certainly puts what our bodies are capable of – something we often take for granted – into perspective!

I just tried the Amazing Grass Wheatgrass from the swag bag, and am still up in the air about it. I couldn’t taste the “grassy” flavor because I loaded my smoothie up with frozen banana, fresh mango, and skim milk… but I wasn’t a huge fan of the resulting texture. I’m looking forward to trying the Kids Chocolate flavor in tomorrow’s Amazing Grass smoothie experiment!

I have noticed that too!!! There will be a whole “love yourself” story and then you turn the page and the models are back to (ab)normal. One day…

    Joanne ,
It shouldn’t be any slower 🙁

    Re. SELF,
Yes, that whole story made me mad. I don’t believe in airbrushing – maybe just a pantyline or something material – but not bodies. I think Lucy keeps making it worse. She even used the word “perfection” on the Today’s show – is there such thing!? NO! I am all for normal looking models. In fact, I’d like to be one!

You are so right! Yoga is almost as good as a massage. Actually, I might even say it’s as good as a massage. For me, there’s a knot right below my right shoulder blade and when I’m lying on the ground in a twist, it totally works the knot out. Love that beautiful tasting plate BTW!

    Hi Kath,

Long time reader, first time writing. I just did a beginners Yoga Download and I loved it. However, I wasn’t quite sure if I was doing the poses correctly since there was no visual. Is there any downloads that have someone doing them along with you? I just don’t feel 100% comfortable doing the poses without someone to watch.

Also, I’m a teacher that’s about to start school again. I want to stay healthy all year long, but it’s hard during the school year. Any tips to share about how to stay healthy and workout when you have VERY little time in the day? When I get home I SO don’t feel like cooking or working out.

THANKS! Keep up the great blog, I love it!

    Andrea ,
Each YogaDowload has a PDF pose guide that you can use to study up on the poses. It helps so much to see the person doing them before hand and you can always have it up to glance at during your class if you need it.

Can you fit in your work in the mornings? Even if it’s just something at home – Yogadownload, jump rope, a DVD, You Tube videos? I was always worn out by the end of the day too, which is why I got up at 4:50 to exercise before work. If you can’t, try having a substantial energy-boosting snack after work so you won’t be thinking about dinner so much and have a bit smaller dinner after your workout. Walking always counts!

Andrea, I agree with Kath. When my spouse and I worked out after work, 1/2 the time we just skipped it. Then we switched to the morning. My morning alarm clock goes off at 5 am, I get to work at 7:30 am. You just have to be willing to go to bed at a decent hour (for me, 9 pm).
