Morning Has Broken

I woke up feeling groovy smoothie and decided to make a hybrid bowl of cereal / SIAB.

IMG_3053 (640x427)

The "milk" is actually 2 handfuls baby spinach, 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 cup water, 1/2 frozen big banana, and 1 scant scoop Vega Vanilla Chai. It was actually TOO sweet!

My "cereal" is a few Kashi Cinnamon Harvests, some Hemp Plus granola, blackberries, strawberries and a drizzle blob of Nutty Butter.

IMG_3058 (640x427)

So much volume! But it tastes so good.

IMG_3059 (640x427)

I promise there were berries under there!

IMG_3061 (640x427)

Double up tea

Have you seen the new design of Google Calendar!? I think I like it. I think I like it a lot!

I’m spending this week in Oncology. Learning a lot. And I’m late!

Hey, Kath. I looove the Gcal changes as well. I recently got Milestone as my phone. It has Android operating system, and I LOVE how it just syncs with EVERYTHING – gmail, calendar, contacts!!!! I just had to sign in, and all of my info is on the phone now. I’m definitely an Android convert.

Huh! I like your breakfast creation! I’ll bet you can’t even taste the spinach huh? Just like eating cereal with milk but with all that happy spinach-y goodness. And a fun change from a typical green monster. Cool idea!

I posted this post this morning to Ashley’s Edible Perspective giveaway aand thought I would forward to each of you. I’ve declared it blogger appreciation day at my house in Cambridge, MA!

as a perpetual yo-yo dieter, i found food blogs through searching out inspiration to help me get HEALTHY! I now work in schools as a counselor, and unfortunately everyday I talk about body image, and, fortunately eating healthy. Its just so important to me. I want to be an inspiration and motivation to my students and there is nothing more I want to impart to my kids than: its NOT about being thin- its about being the right, healthy size for you and eating good whole foods.

As an oatmeal connoisseur (you know I love my steel cut!) I stumbled on lady Kath’s “tribute” to the good stuff, and felt like I struck gold. I went through dozens of blogs before I found an army of favorites that I check religiously. Every day, I look to four women that inspire me and use cooking philosophies that I am proud to call my own as well. I now visit Kath, Caitlin, Roni and you every day as inspiration and my motivation to continue healthy eating every single day (and of course, my fifth, Deb over at Smitten Kitchen, because everyone needs some SEE RI OUS indulgence… that woman is a goddess). Anyways, thanks for doing what you do.

The bowl of “morning goodness” is SO green. Not sure if I could eat something so green for breakfast.

Aww oncology was a tough rotation for me (my mom’s been battling cancer for years) and to see some of those patients was difficult. I literally had a sob fest after I left one patient’s room. Goodluck!!

Oh my gosh Kath, I am so excited and jealous that you are spending time in oncology! If you can, it would be awesome if you could write a bit about what you learn! I am curious about what cancer patients actually get fed versus what would be an ideal diet for them. I really want to study the relationship between cancer and phytochemicals and antioxidants. Its my suspicion that the diets given in hospitals are not nearly up to par with what would optimally improve the patients health. But perhaps I am wrong! Have fun!

L, I attended a talk on oncology nutrition today and the diet recommendations mirror a super healthy diet in general: fruits, veggies (of many colors), low red meat, lots of plants, WHOLE soy (not processed), healthy fats, etc.
