Maple Glug

Last night was glorious – cozy sleep on a cold winter night.

IMG_6058Blog

And this morning – there are flakes trying as hard as they can to fall here at the beach!

IMG_6059Blog

Breakfast is included here at the inn, and Jo, the innkeeper, put out a beautiful spread

IMG_6034BlogIMG_6035Blog

I mashed a banana and some peanut butter into an English muffin

IMG_6040Blog

With a pile of fruit

IMG_6041Blog

In lieu of honey, I drizzled a little maple on top of my muffin – or rather Matt drizzled it.

IMG_6042Blog

But his hand wasn’t steady and a giant glug of a quarter cup landed on top!

IMG_6044Blog

IMG_6045Blog

I drained the excess off, but what was underneath was delicious

Jo makes some good strong coffee!

Since our weather is dreary, we’re calling today Family Reading Day. We have a book club discussion looming on Monday night and some of us are only in the first few chapters of The Raw Shark Texts!

A relaxing day of reading sounds about perfect for the day after Christmas. Me, on the other hand, I’m going to be doing a ton of activity to try to spark some labor.

Your family is so cute I could just eat you up. I love that you have reading groups! You’re lucky you’re not in Western NC – we got a ton of snow yesterday and are still very much snowed in today! I hear out East you might get an inch or two, though!

Looks like a perfect day to snuggle up with a book. Merry Christmas!

Too much maple syrup is never a bad thing.

I love the shot of the rosemary – it looks so delicate in that vase. Sounds like a great time so far.

Family reading day sounds perfect and oh-so-cozy for a chilly winter day, especially if snow comes down. I was planning to head home today but now I’m thinking about just staying at my mom’s and lounging in sweats with a book, too.

You guys did the right thing by leaving when you did! It started snowing here in Raleigh around 9 last night! I live minutes from RDU and we got about 7 inches and it’s still snowing!

    i love syrup 🙂

i meant to tell you in my last comment where i mentioned i used to live in wilmington, nc….anyway we used to run 5 and 10k’s on bald head island and i have ALMOST missed the ferry before. As in, I was running to the dock, screaming, begging, pleading and it was only on sheer luck and early 20s girlish charm that they held up the boat for me.

glad you guys got there! I hope you’re enjoying the golf carts 🙂

I once belonged to a reading club, but ALWAYS got behind. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve enjoyed sitting in an old wing-back chair, in front of the Christmas tree and reading for hours and hours. That’s exactly what I plan on doing today…and I have the same old wing-back sitting in my living room, although it’s no longer the same ugly rust-colored upholstery. Enjoy your relaxing day of reading!

The inn you’re staying at is beautiful! What a dream Christmas vacation. I love how your Christmas day turned out – as “a planner,” that would freak me out to get all my plans switched around because of weather (though living in Wisconsin…I’m pretty used to snow messing things up!), but you embraced it and, as it seems, loved every minute of it. Enjoy!

I love that birdhouse in the first shot! We have one that my (now deceased) grandfather built for our lakehouse. A family reading day sounds so good. Unfortunately we still have another party to go to after church but I’d kind of rather stay in and relax!

Teehee, I definitely would’ve kept the entire glug there. Particularly as real maple syrup is usually out of my budget! I need a non-steady-handed husband in my life, clearly…
