Little Sous Chef

What last night’s dinner was lacking in the leftover dept., tonight’s made up for!!

I don’t know if it’s our house going on the market this week (and the fear of evening appts. – which we haven’t had!) or just the two giant dishes we made early in the week that produced tons of leftovers, but I scraped our dinner plans for sweet potato fries and bean burgers and had us eat leftovers again!

IMG_6275

I had a little sous chef helping me out 🙂

IMG_6262

He even did the dishes!

IMG_6260

So into my bowl……

IMG_6271

  • Leftover Bob’s Red Mill Vegi Soup (lentils, barley, peas and mini pasta)
  • Chicken broth
  • Shredded turkey that fell off the bone when Matt made stock from our frozen Thanksgiving [organic] turkey
  • A handful of chopped fresh broccoli
  • Parm cheese
  • Salt + pepper
  • And this Quince + Apple Pear + Honey + Ginger Jam!!!……………………

IMG_6259

Strange combo, but as I said at lunch, jam goes with everything!!

IMG_6269

IMG_6270

I doctored up my soup….

IMG_6258

With Dr. Kracker Seeded Spelt. One of you said this was your favorite flavor. Now I know why!! These are lighter and almost buttery from the spelt 🙂

IMG_6264

IMG_6265

Dessert was licking the spoon when preparing my overnight oats for tomorrow!!! Emily and I are meeting for Y2Yoga after work so I get to sleep in!!! How exciting!!!

Going to watch Twilight  in bed!! I hate our couch and the living room is so stiff and not cozy and scary at night, so I came up with the idea to watch in bed on my laptop under the comforter while Matt sleeps! Excitement!

I’m not really a fan of leftovers but you make them look so appetizing!

Where did you learn to take such great quality photos? Or if you just learned on your own, how long did it take you and what kind of tips or websites would you recommend for someone just starting to take food photos?

In all seriousness, read your camera manual!! It has all the answers you need. That’s what I did to learn about aperture and ISO and white balance and all that jazz.

Our couch used to not be comfy at all and we had to do away with them! Now my couch is my favorite place to be! Good idea to watch movies in bed, that is the best spot for it, unless you fall asleep 😉

I have that flavor of Dr Kracker and haven’t tried them yet. I wonder if the spelt will upset my slight gluten intolerance? The way you make it sound though I don’t even care!

Do you have a DSLR? I’d recommend a new lens first and foremost. And reading the manual! You might have the wrong aperture or white balance settings.

We had leftovers tonight to. It’s not very exciting but so nice to not have to make dinner. I like how you re create the leftovers and jazz them up, that’s what I do to so it’s not the exact same leftovers but a variation.

The jams today is making me want to go out and pick up some jam. 🙂

Kath how did you freeze that turkey? I only ask because I have two rotisserie chickens that I made this week and then came down with the flu! So I want hubby to shred it and freeze it. Do I freeze it in broth? Or just on its own?

He put all the carcass in a big zip lock bag and put the whole thing in the freezer. Then he pulled it out just now to make stock. We have the shreds now in the fridge to eat and the broth in the freezer on a sheet pan to shape into blocks.

Love the ladybug … for some reason I’ve been finding them in our house, too. Maybe they don’t like the extremely cold weather outside? Although it’s been cold for about 3 months now, so one would think they wouldn’t even be in this climate right now!

That sounds like the best way to watch a movie … though I’m sure I’d probably fall asleep with the laptop on. 🙂
