Let Him Eat Cake

Foodblog-9818

We had a fabulous weekend celebrating Mazen! He surprisingly woke up at 3:30am on his birthday, so I actually got to watch the clock strike 3:38 – the exact moment of his birth. I sort of hope that’s the last time I am awake at that hour on his birthday : )

My parents came for the weekend, and we had fun on Friday eating pizza and salad at Fridays After Five and then spent Saturday getting ready for the party. Mazen invited his playmates (and their parents) over for burgers and cupcakes. I didn’t get photos of his friends for privacy’s sake, but it was fun to see our yard literally crawling with kiddos! Maze lit up when his dad carried his Sweethaus cake down the steps and then enjoyed not one but two mini cupcakes. He surprised us all by eating the cake part first and leaving the frosting for last!

Instead of being a teary day for me, Mazen’s first birthday was loads of fun. I hardly remember each month from the past year, but I am also really excited for the year to come!

Two pictures jumped out at me … the one where the Fridays at Five ticket is in the foreground and he’s got that tough-guy look in the background is so cute. And his checked shirt brought back memories of my first sweet baby when he was one. Now he’s 10 … weep!

I’m sure this has been asked a million times but do you pronounce it “may-son” or “may-zen” (Y added for sound). I thought it was the Arabic name Mazen but from your mason jar theme it seems you may just have chosen to spell Mason differently?

Looks like a very grown up party for a little guy. He’s such a cutie. Lots more exciting firsts ahead!

Most of them are antique from my grandmother’s collection. My mom has given me more from her collection as well because I now collect blue glass. The bright blue ones are a reproduction – the Ball Heritage line – that I bought. Those are the only ones I use for food.

I love the pictures of you, Matt, and Mazen looking at each other – so sweet! Great family portraits. And the picture of you and Matt at the party is great, too. Love that dress on you!

Happy Birthday Mazen!! So excited for you all 🙂 I remember reading your birth story last year, it’s been fun to see him grow this whole time and read about your experiences in motherhood!

He is so, so cute! We had that same music table for my kids (now 4-year old twins) and they LOVED it!

I wish this post had been published two years ago! ..on my child’s first birthday I had a mishap with blue food coloring and I had a whole party of kids running around with blue tongues and blue clothes, smearing blue whipped cream everywhere and getting chased off the sofa by anxious moms!! Scary!!
