Layer Cake

Well rested and ready to play!

IMG_4473

Mom and I had on similar dresses

IMG_4470 IMG_4474

Three layers of cake lovers (plus Smotey) Larbs arrived by airplane in the middle of cake eating dessert! Four layers of family.

IMG_4480

We met a few of Gram’s friends for cocktails at the bistro (pronounced “bis-tro” not “bees-tro”!)

Manhattan for me (!!)

IMG_4484

Whiskey Sour for Gram

IMG_4485

And bar snacks for us all!

IMG_4483

After some nice conversation, we moseyed over to the grill for dinner. I love eating in the grill because it’s a big buffet (a service offered to the residents of Gram’s building). I like to build my meal to taste!

I always start with a big salad –

IMG_4490

Topped with romaine, veggies, fruit, bleu cheese and cranberries

IMG_4488

I didn’t plan on having wine with dinner, but I ended up sharing a glass with mom –

IMG_4491

Off the hot buffet, I chose a fish (I’m not sure what kind) and lots of veggies

IMG_4497IMG_4493

I shared my fish with Matt because one of Gram’s friends found me a really good trout that was hiding behind the counter! A Steelhead trout, I believe? It was great! Like salmon!

IMG_4501

Guess who is turning 29 again on Sunday!? MOM!!!

IMG_4504

Happy Birthday To You!

IMG_4510

Like a good girl, I ate all of my icing. But I left most of the cake part because cake is just a means to serve icing anyways.

IMG_4511

Side of decaf!

IMG_4512

After dinner we went up to Gram’s apartment and looked at old photos. This one we think was taking in 1875! That’s Gram’s Gram on the far left!

IMG_4514

And her family in their bathing suits, many ages ago –

IMG_4516

Matt and I are back at our hotel getting some rest before a fun day of shopping, bread eating and parties tomorrow! Wheee!

I love the blue dress! and Happy “29th” birthday to your mom, haha 😉

I love looking at old family photos, it’s so interesting to see what they wore and how they acted back then. You ever notice how in the black in white pics (like you have), people never smile?! They look so serious!

    Anyway, have fun tomorrow! 🙂

Those photos are spectacular. It so motivates me to organize and properly store my own photos. I can always pass on cake, but if there is warm cobbler with ice cream, or bread pudding, then dessert it is!

i love your blue dress and boots! as an FIT grad i must insist you belt that baby next time to show off your tiny waist. also, i must insist you share the secret to not eating the cake when it is right in front of you.

“Like a good girl, I ate all of my icing. But I left most of the cake part because cake is just a means to serve icing anyways.”

…I said just about the same thing the other day at work! We bought a cake for a coworker’s going away and I ate all the icing off my piece, a tiny bite of cake and handed over the rest of the “cake” to someone else. All my friends told me there was something wrong with me. I’m pretty sure they just don’t get it. 😉

I love really old family photos! My grandfather has one of five of his siblings in Mississippi on the front porch of their home. They’re all wearing the sweetest white outfits and the girls have big bows in their hair. It’s my favorite picture. Have fun tomorrow! It sounds like a great day.

“because cake is just a means to serve icing anyways. “– I totally concur! I do love moist, perfect cake. But most cake is way too dry for me.

    Whiskey sours and bar nuts…YUM!

this made me miss my family 🙂 Sometimes I skip salad so that I can focus all my eating energy on the main course, but that’s a great idea if I want to go out, but keep it light! plus, I can save half of my meal for lunch the next day!
