Just Breathe….The Pollen

Foodblog-7843

I have never been one to have even a touch of allergies, but this year – yikes! I have the Charlottesville Chest Cold that everyone I know is getting, and I think that either the virus is making my more vulnerable or I’m getting weaker as I get older. I can feel the pollen in my luuuuuunnnngggsss!

I still love our backyard tree though. Especially at sunrise 🙂

I went to athletic conditioning this morning, and worked my tail off for 55 minutes. Dance party before dawn! I wish Chris would record a video of this class so I could share it with you guys. It’s such a great one! We always start class just jumping up and down in place to some club mix pop and it’s such a shocking transition from being in bed 20 minutes prior. But – it’s almost magical when we all start hopping together. (Right Lara, Lyns, Val and friends?!)

Back at home I took the most wonderful shower followed by the most wonderful breakfast. After doing that class on an empty stomach, mine feels like it’s eating itself by the time I sit down to eat.

Fage 2%, strawberries and crumbled Peach Streusel muffin Matt brought home!

I spent the morning running errands – getting my tires rotated, dropping stuff off at Goodwill, taking Karen over to Rotary – while Mazen was in school. It was a productive morning because while I was waiting at the car place I finished up some continuing eds for my RD. I’m all set with my 75 hours for my first 5-year period now!

I came home for lunch starving and luckily had this plate of leftovers to reheat – BBQ salmon, asparagus, sweet potatoes.

Plus I had two of these baby banana bites I have leftover from a freelance project!

I picked Mazen up from school and we played in the yard for a while before he left to get an ice cream with KK.

And before I go – last night’s dinner was a burger on top of a salad with a mix of veggies, pimento cheese and Whole Foods Caesar dressing. I went to Ellen’s for a Stella + Dot trunk show afterwards while Karen entertained some friends and M+M played around.

Tonight is date night!!!

    Enjoy date night!

I had to laugh at the pollen part only because I’m pretty sure I said that to myself about 3 years ago, you know things like ” people with allergies are such babies, why can’t they just suck it up.” Well I understand, now thanks to having the WORST allergies the last two years. Seriously, I just want a mask.

Oh, I definitely am with you on the allergies! This time of year has been the worst for me. I don’t typically take allergy medication, but I’ve had to for these past couple weeks.

I live in Charlotte and the pollen is crazy down here. I hear it’s the worst place for allergies.

I don’t have allergies, but some really annoying little symptom I get is one watery eye. It’s so weird!

How do you find doing a 55 minute class on an empty stomach? And what are you thoughts on fasted/non-fasted 1st thing in the morning exercise?

I used to do my 1hr martial arts class first thing in the morning on an empty stomach (only drinking water) but then I would feel dehydrated and sluggish during the day. I now have a small snack (100 cal) before class and I never have those issues anymore.

If there is any more than 20 minutes between wake + class I have to eat something, but on the days I just get up and go if I’m not hungry I just drink water during class. It works ok!

Kath, I feel the SAME way. Never had trouble with allergies until this very season. I told my hubby the other day I turned 30 and was so kindly gifted allergies! I hate to take it, but Allegra D works pretty swiftly for me if I have to sing at church or something! Good luck!

What kind of pimento cheese do you use? The only one I’m familiar with is whatever comes in that mini glass jar from a big name company I am blanking on right now!

Oh—and Zyrtec D is great for random allergies! It’s not the kind you need to take every day to build up. Just a non drowsy one for these rough virgina pollen days

My doc said it is very common for allergies to pop up around 30, something about aging immune systems. I remember being very indignant about the comment because I was 29 and aging was not on my mind. But sure enough by the time I was 35, I am a full blown allergy sufferer…..so sad….

Hoping we can avoid catching the Cville Chest Cold when we visit this weekend! I’m looking for a Downtown Mall (or close vicinity) restaurant recommendation for Sunday dinner – we haven’t been there in a few years and are taking a little getaway Sunday night. We’ve been to Hamilton’s, Blue Light Grill, and a few that aren’t there anymore. What’s your current favorite?

That was our first choice but unfortunately they’re not open for dinner on Sundays! We’re thinking about C&O.

omg it hasn’t been 5 years since you got your RD has it?! Or are you ahead of the time limit?

I was told once that having a pregnancy makes you more prone to allergies…not sure if that’s true! All I know is I have more symptoms each year and never ever had them in the past.
