If I Had A Nickel For Every…

Hi guys! I am super sleepy and had a fun night out on the town, so I’m going to make this more photo and less type. All in all, I ate too much, but as always, couldda been a lot worse 😉

Upon our arrival in Hillsborough, I made a plate of apples + carrots for my sister and Matt. She said her stomach needed fuel and I said she needed fresh produce 🙂 I had a few slices of each.

DSC07284

Larbs hosted a party tonight for her high school friends – check out her party dress!

DSC07285

I started the party with a New Castle, an old favorite <3

DSC07293

I also snuck into the fridge to make a small open-faced hummus + tomato + jalapeno sandwich for dinner to go with the party foods – cheese straws, mini hot dogs, cheese.

DSC07297

My friend from high school Matt Compton came over to play and the husband’s friend from his high school years Malcolm came to play with him, so we were in good company!

That Malcolm!

DSC07296

Mom’s punch! And my small cup (with sherbert!)

DSC07301  DSC07302

I also had a few sips of various people’s beers like the home-brewed Squirr-ale! Probably the equiv. of another 1/3 of a beer – I was feeling them!

DSC07305

So I switched to Diet Tonic + Cherries –

DSC07306

Mom made this fabulous Trifle! It was soaked in all kinds of yummy liquors with fruit and whipped cream –

DSC07307

I started with a little –

DSC07308

And ended with a lot more! But I only had about 1/3 of this, as I shared it with Matt Compton –

DSC07312

After dessert we all walked down to the Wooden Nickel – Hillsborough trademark English pub. But first we stopped in to see my friend Kirst, who works next door! She served in the Peace Corps in Niger for 2 years and is back in the States 🙂

DSC07313

Once at the Nickel, I knew I’d had a few sips too many drinks so I passed on a pint. Call me a wimp, but I just don’t want to feel bad tomorrow.  The Nickel is like 5 years of high school reunions all rolled into one little room. I saw a few people I hadn’t seen in 8 years since graduation! The night before all major holidays you are sure to find some folks you know. The only drawback: there’s no non-smoking laws in NC so I smell pretty bad (my lungs included 👿 )

DSC07317

Matt Comp and I chatted for a long time. He’s a big politics executive in DC!

DSC07314

I finally got a big glass of H2O

DSC07321

We walked back home (about 4-5 blocks) and the midnight munchies set in –

DSC07325

I had 4 cheese and crackers. I was actually hungry though! But I had to leave the room or I would have consumed way more snacks than necessary.

DSC07324

And that’s the end of that chapter.

At 12:02 am, I can say: Happy Christmas Eve!!!

Looks like a lot of fun. It seems that the late night munchies get’s me. Old habits die hard. The biggest part is…I love to stay up late and chat…but eating is inevitable. Sleep is probably a good idea. Off to bed for me. Happy Christmas Eve to you too.

Looks like you had a lot of fun! Its always good/weird to see people who you haven’t seen since high school. Good on ya for avoiding the late night snacks….as I read that you left, I was thinking, “I would have been in the kitchen for the long haul!”. Enjoy your day!

It’s just a plain black one from Target, I think? I got it in a set of 3 a while ago.

LOL – KERF dirt. I hope we can make it, but surely we will some other time if not today.

    BethT ,
Thanks! We don’t highlight – but my sister does work on hers in the summertime with sun-friendly lighteners.

    fitforfree ,
Thank you! It’s an antique $5 coin my grandmother gave me.

    Fancy ,
Thank you too! It’s Guess brand that I got at a discount store a few years ago.

I have been living in Wilmington for almost 8 years! Most folks wonder how I could leave the beach, but I miss the hills of the triangle. My boyfriend is from Wilmington but we both have family near Hillsborough. I fell in love with the “small” size of the town and the community feel. Plus, Wilmington is HORRIBLE for finding a new job…not to mention expensive housing!
