Happy Oatmeal Day

This post is sponsored by The Quaker Oats Company, naturally!

Oatmeal Day

Happy National Oatmeal Day to you all! I love how this holiday falls in the days around my birthday. How appropriate.

I’m celebrating by eating this delicious bowl for breakfast –

Quaker1

Pumpkin + Pear oatmeal with cinnamon chips, Quaker Real Medleys Granola and peanut butter.

Quaker3

The Quaker Oats Company is celebrating National Oatmeal Day by giving away up to one million bowls of oatmeal! As part of their new “Off You Go” campaign, they are helping people across the country get the best start to their days with a hearty breakfast. In addition to commuter sampling in select big cities (keep your eye out if you’re on the way to work in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco and Washington D.C.!) and doorstep drops to surprise folks at home. Visit www.QuakerOffYouGo.com for more details.

Quaker2

I’m helping Quaker reach their one million goal by giving away 10 “Off You Go” kits here on KERF this morning!

The kits include:

I like to blend a whole egg into my oats–it keeps me full all day, plus it makes the oatmeal so much fluffier!

I could use your advice, though-I don’t like my oatmeal super sweet, but I’m struggling to come up with creative topping combos that don’t make my oats taste like dessert. Any recommendations? Thanks!

My breakfast of choice is oatmeal! Anything else just doesn’t cut it!
I cook it with my own almond milk , a date, chia and 1/2 banana!
Turns out great every time! Topped with almond butter, the other
1/2 banana and usually a few walnuts. Keeps me satisfied all morning.

To get started in the mornings I always need: movement, fluids, and fuel! Working out in the morning wakes me up. Drinking water (and tea, of course!) keeps me hydrated. And eating a nutritious breakfast (oatmeal for 90% of the time!) helps me make better choices throughout the day and a happier me!

My advice for having a great start to the day is going for a run then coming back and enjoying a cup of coffee and breakfast. A few months ago, every morning I started writing down 3 things I’m thankful for. Whenever I’m having a bad day or feeling frustrated, I look in my notebook and remind myself about my simple pleasures of life that make me happy every day. I love mornings because they are a time to be with yourself and give you a sense of peace to begin the day 🙂

#1: Get dressed to make you feel good about yourself! That doesn’t mean dress in your fanciest attire, but just enough to make you feel confident–> that is the key!
#2: While getting ready in the morning, think about something that makes you happy and/or laugh! It can be about what will happen later that day, a funny pic/joke, or even something that you are good at. So think about that awesome grade you earned on a test and feel confident as you make your way into your day.
It’s all about setting yourself in the right mindset to have a good…GREAT day!

I like to wake up before the kids and enjoy some quiet time, before the hustle & bustle of the day. I drink warm lemon water, while I make my morning oats! Oatmeal, almond/coconut milk, diced apples & lots of cinnamon – topped with unsweetened coconut, pumpkin seeds & hemp seeds. It’s one of my favorite ways to start my day.

I start with an “inner bath” by drinking a liter of water with lemon. I also expose myself to sunlight to set my circadian rhythm for the day. I then meditate for five minutes setting my intention for the day. Follow that up with some light stretching while my Yerba mate tea is brewing and my day is off like a champ!!

I am up now at 5:30 having my tea and doing bible study. Oatmeal will be later with the kiddos (I told them I missed Oatmeal Day yesterday AM so we’d have it today the 30th! Yippee!! We have oat meal a lot as myself and my oldest monkey (though pretty slender) both have hereditary high cholesterol. Oatmeal helps to lower it!

My best tip for a smooth running morning is to get up earlier than you “need to.” This gives you time to deal with those unanticipated problems that often crop up, like finding a missing shoe, looking for a misplaced backpack, or cleaning up dog barf!! I find I’m a lot less stressed if I have built some margin into my morning and I’m not so frantic to meet that deadline to rush out the door. Quaker Oats are often my go to morning meal. I like to add fruit and pumpkin pie spice…yum!!!!!

Oatmeal paired with some protein in the morning is my go to! It keeps me full for hours and ensures I start the day off right. There’s something amazing about pumpkin oats this time of year too!

I think this campaign is a fantastic idea and look forward to more oatmeal recipes from KathEats.com!

I’d like to say exercise or going to bed early the night before…but that would be a lie. Maybe someday I can say that. For me right now, the best way to start my day is to soak in the beauty of the mountains as I drive to work. Bonus is when I spot waterfalls! Nature is a natural energizer and recharger for me.
