Flexibility!

Other than a lesson in why we should sit up straight to pay attention properly, why coming late to class is inappropriate and why my professor is pretending to be a professor, I got a lesson tonight in being flexible!

Lydia’s flight was 40 minutes late, which mean we had exactly 58 minutes together before I had to drop her off again. So we didn’t have time for wine, but we did drive to a closer smoothie place! I got the Mangosteen, a tropical fruit from Southeast Asia, combined with strawberries, papays, kiwi and protein powder. It was so delicious!! I can’t even begin to describe the flavor.

Dinner

  • Turkey, Havarti, Cilantro Pesto + Spinach on Ezekiel Muffin
  • Plain yogurt with 1/4 cup homemade granola
  • Strawberries + Carrots

dinner.JPG

I got to class with exactly 13 minutes to eat diner. I ate some of the strawberries on the way there and ate the yogurt-granola first, since it was the most perishable, and half of the sandwich. That’s all I had time for!!

I had the rest of the fruit/veggies during our 5 minute break (although he gave me the evil eye for crunching a carrot once he’d started lecturing again) and the rest of the sandwich on my way home! Whew!

Pit Stop

The husband was entertaining at our house and chemistry had my nerves on end, so I did something totally spontaneous: I stopped into my favorite wine bar that’s right on my way home for a 2 oz glass!! Turns out they had a Sinatra live band playing. I sat at the bar and people-watched and listened while I sipped. I ended up talking to this older Italian man who was here on business and who barely spoke English all about Italy, Parmesan cheese and the Slow Food Movement. I felt like I was in the movies

 this !

But it’s good to be home 🙂 Off to bed!

I hate rushing to eat my meals as well so it’s unfortunate that you practically had to swallow your food.

At least you managed to unwine after Chem so that’s a good thing. 🙂

Ha, unwine! Not sure if that was intentional but I like it!

What an interesting excursion! The Slow Food Movement is truly fascinating. Italians are so passionate about food, they’re baffled by what little consideration North Americans give to where their food comes from and how it’s prepared.

OMG I LOVE LOVE mangosteen. They’re the best when eaten fresh. It’s so interesting how soft and sweet it is. Gosh my mouth is watering!

I ate them like crazy in Viet Nam and Cambodia. (sigh) I even dream about it today………. 🙁

Sorry about your “professor.” Did he start teaching you guys anything yet? summer classes are only 5 weeks right?

What an incredibly annoying prof! I think it’s like that with most of the chem professors. I’m studying masters in cardiology and all but one chem professors in my undergrad made the classes unbearable! (physical chem was THE worst)

I REALLY like mangosteen, too!! I live in Canada and it’s quite expensive here, but I hand a chance to visit Cambodia and Thailand 2 years ago and it’s amazingly cheap and juicy over there. I think it costed me LESS than $1 for a whole bag! I love how juicy and fragrant it is:):)

Been reading you for a while now; I am an RD since 81, and believe I cook and eat healthy. I actually work as a food safety consultant/health inspector now, but was in foodsvs mgt for a long time before kids. But you put me to shame, girl. I don’t know how you do it. I, too, get the munchies from too much wine.
Just wanted to say keep it up, you are an inspiration. beth

I love doing spontaneous things like your solo trip to the wine bar! You always seem to find really good conversations in situations like those. Have a great day 🙂

The chemistry guy will eat you and your carrots next time he hears you crunching. He seems like that kind of guy… Good luck!

I love Smoothie King! There’s one right around the corner from me, and when I’m in a rush, that’s where I stop for some quick fuel for the day. I haven’t tried the mangosteen one yet. Perhaps I’ll reward myself with one tonight…

I am so sorry that the situation with your professor is getting worse. I hate being in classroom situations like that, where there’s not much you can do than just get through it.

That smoothie sounds delicious right about now! Warm weather + smoothies = delightful! Good thing I now have a blender for when the craving hits!!

And sorry again about your professor….he seems a little over the top! Sheesh!

P.s. I like how you told us the order you ate your dinner… sometimes when I’m out I wonder what I should eat first or last, in case I can save things…. or what is the most quiet in class…or what is easiest for driving. I think it’s just interesting to hear the thought process! ha I guess I’m weird, but I’m on-the-go always too so maybe that’s why?

    Leng ,
I’m gonig to have to look for a mangosteen fresh – it was really good!

    beth ,
Thanks so much for your comment!

    Em ,
Glad the order was helpful – sometimes I’m like “Do they really care” but I know there’s probably one person who does 🙂

    Christy,
Haha – I would but the other kids would probably hate me too!

    Jenna,
Yes. Just pureed cilantro, walnuts, parmesan and olive oil for the cilantro pesto. It’s got a really great flavor.

Wow, did the prof really tell you guys to sit up straight??? That’s both hilarious and really annoying.

I’m impressed by your spontaneous wine-bar visit! Sounds like a fun evening (minus the chem class).
