Feel Like A Million Buckwheats

Morning! Afternoon!

We’ve had a lovely start here in Missoula. We began with sleeping until our hearts were content, followed by a morning workout in the super nice Precor fitness room. I covered ~4 miles spilt between treadmilling and ellipticaling and watching Real Housewives on the TVs.

Silly me forgot about my hurt wrist, which hasn’t bothered me since the Homewood Suites, and picked up a 15 pounder. Ack! It seems that bicep curl motions are impossible, so I need to remember not to attempt those for a few weeks! Period!

I had a banana before and after my workout. Not too much because we had big plans for breakfast!

IMG_8760Blog

After showers and stuffing every last corner of my duffel bag with clothes, we headed out on foot downtown.

IMG_8762Blog

I really like Missoula! So many cute shops and restaurants. And lots of amazing menus!

IMG_8763Blog

Breakfast was a tough call, but ultimately the Shack Café’s buckwheat pancake got us in the door. This place was recommended by a friend.

IMG_8764Blog

It was 9:30 and coffee was a must! We were so happy to see that it was STRONG!

IMG_8765Blog

Spiked with some milk – I think I drank four cups! It’s so easy to just keep gulping it down when you have unlimited refills.

IMG_8766Blog

We saw this bowl full of cherries and other fruits dance by our table and knew we wanted one too. It was pricy, but worth every bite – really good fruit!!

IMG_8769Blog

Loved the touch of the POM arils!

IMG_8768Blog

And then my pancake!!! It was MONSTROUS and so good! I ordered one pancake (glad I just got one because it was so big) with two over easy eggs for a side of protein and maximum satiety for my day ahead.

IMG_8773Blog

It was deeelish!

IMG_8775Blog

With a drizzle of thick syrup and a schmear of butter

IMG_8778Blog

We kept raving to our waitress how delicious the breakfast was. She said we made her day being so enthusiastic about it : )

IMG_8779Blog

Overeasy is my favorite egg style. I always forget and order them sunny side up, but I prefer overeasy because the yolk is more evenly distributed throughout the white yet you still get that great runny inside.

IMG_8774Blog

Matt got a huge omelet with hashbrowns and sourdough toast. It was both of our goals to eat a large brunch since our lunch hours are busy. He cleared his plate and helped me with mine!

IMG_8772Blog

To the airport I go! My flight gets in at 11PM tonight – gonna be a long day.

I love good fruit at restaurants. I was in a place in TN once who told me they didn’t have any fruit b/c it was winter, even though fruit bowl was on the menu. I was completely shocked. We have grocery stores so we can have fruit year-round. Come on! Over easy is my favorite too. 🙂

Looks good Kath. I have an unrelated question. Or perhaps readers might help. What do you feel is a healthy weight gain for a 31 year old woman, who is quite underweight and needs to gain? Doing only minimal activity (just walking leisurely each day). It is daunting because if weight gain is slow, this person could be just walking for a long time as she gains weight.
And how does it vary according to if a person only has a little or a lot to gain? Or somene like Michael Douglas who lost 30 lbs? etc , etc.

I really have to watch my coffee drinking when I’m at restaurants. It is just way too easy to keep getting more and more! Make sure you always check refills are free, though. One restaurant I went to only had one refill, and anything past that was three dollars!

It’s called the “Spanish latte” and it’s European style coffee. They also make really pretty foamy shapes on top for you. This place is called Urth Caffe and if you’re EVER in L.A. Cali then you should definitely try. Have you been here to socal before? Would you ever have a reason to come down here? 🙂
