Fall Family Photo Shoot
I had to share our fall family photo session in the golden hour of day! Thanks to our family photographer, Sarah Cramer Shields of Cramer Photo for capturing us in photos year after year.
Yet when Sarah showed up, both of them were dressed with smiles on their faces. They love to protest, but the boys can perform!!
Silly boys!
Fall Family Photo Shoot Outfit Ideas
I am a fan of different types of plaid for fall photos. While I don’t necessarily think everyone needs to be matchy-matchy in coordinating outfits, a few different jewel tones or burnt oranges mixed with blues and greens looks coordinated yet casual. With four family members, we each have something in the color family to wear.
Some years my fall family photo outfit leans dressy with a dress and more jewelry and other years we go more casual. This was a casual year!
If you do end up wearing similar clothing again, change up the accessories with sweaters, scarves, a hat, shoes, and jewelry.
Our favorite spot for our family photoshoot is always just around our yard in the fall (because it’s easy!) but don’t be afraid to mix it up with all kinds of local backdrops:
Apple orchards
Vineyards
Properties with barns
Fields with tall grass
In the woods with colorful leaves
By a landmark in your town
An empty park
A trailhead
Best Time Of Day
The golden hour aka sunset is my favorite time to get beautiful light through the trees. Our photographer also does first thing in the morning sunrise shoots with kids who are up early! That time of day when kids are high energy captures the essence of the morning.

Great photos. I hope Mazen was able to get one with you and his dad too, privately. That would be a nice memory for him.
