Easy Homemade Guacamole Dip // aka Yogamole

Foodblog (11 of 13)

Matt and I have been perfecting our guacamole recipe for years. We have it down to a science, and our secret ingredient is mixing in a huge dollop of Greek yogurt. You’ve probably seen me refer to this as “Yoga-mole” on the blog!

Foodblog (10 of 13)

We made this recipe last week and wrote down our measurements so I could finally share the recipe with you. This one is easily halved or doubled, and you can tweak the proportions of everything to your taste. Some jalapeños and cilantro would be nice garnishes!

Foodblog (2 of 13)

Start with avocados that are firm but not hard and a couple of limes. Halve the avocados and remove the pits.

Foodblog (4 of 13)

Then scoop the flesh into a big bowl.

Foodblog (6 of 13)

Top with the juice of two limes.

Foodblog (3 of 13)

And then add a big scoop of Greek yogurt – ours was 1/3 a cup.

Foodblog (7 of 13)

Here are some ideas for the seasonings. We tend to use one called “southwestern seasoning” that is a blend of chili powder and cumin with a little garlic powder, but you can also just add these on your own too. Add 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil, and 1/4 teaspoon of southwestern seasoning – or 1/8 teaspoon each of chili powder and cumin and a big pinch of garlic powder.

Mix well and serve with allthechips!

I could eat that whole bowl with a bag of tortilla chips, my weakness! And a margarita (or two) on the side. I may have to make it happen this weekend!

to add more fat, would subbing in 30% sour cream or even whipped cream(yes, the whipped, airy kind) work as well, Kath? I don’t eat Greek yogurt anymore but I’m all about the creaminess:)

Just curious- why do you add olive oil? Aren’t avocados naturally oily enough?

I asked Matt the same question when I saw him adding it. he says it as just a little bit more richness And flavor, but I would consider it completely optional.

Yes! I love the name, and I love that there is Greek yogurt in here. Avocado and yogurt are two of my favorite things! 🙂

I’m intrigued! Here in California guacamole is usually chunkier, which I have come to love and prefer. I like hunks of avocado rather than a smooth dip-like texture (which, incidentally, is how my mom makes it in Texas). The chunks make it feel fresh and healthy to me! But I’m curious to try it your way. No salsa or tomatoes?

We just keep it simple, but we have added tomatoes and/or salsa at times. And we like it smooth : )

What about jalapenos, tomatoes, or onions? It’s not guacamole without them!

I agree. Guac NEEDS tomatoes and onions, with optional cilantro and jalapenos. Anything other than that is just “avocado dip” in my book! 🙂

I think I might try it, subbing coconut cream for the “yoga.” We have a diary intolerance in the family. I’ve been known to go overboard on the garlic 😉

Pro tip – Lawry’s seasonall… I used to work at a Mexican restaurant with the best guac and this was the “secret” ingredient! However, I just cannot get on board with adding the yogurt… Even though I use it regularly as a sour cream replacement! Avocado, jalapeño, tomato and onion all the way 🙂

Made a double batch to share with friends this weekend and it was a hit. I love the simplicity; no extra chopping. And the olive oil seemed essential. Thank you, Kath!
