Double Date Night

We are two fer two with fun impromptu dinner parties! Today at the wine event Stephanie, Matt and I began to discuss our lack of dinner plans. Suddenly we decided to join forces.

IMG_1796

We headed to their house to play with their baby, dogs and beer.

IMG_1791

Evan homebrews and this was placed in my hand. It was excellent! [All of his beers are excellent!].

IMG_1787

We want to be like them : )

IMG_1808

We brought over some of the Hickory Farms party package, but I was very UN-impressed by the cheddar. It tasted like American cheese in a package

Sad smile this !

IMG_1788

For dinner Evan grilled some delicious flank steaks…

IMG_1794

– to perfection.

IMG_1799

We brought over leftover wheatberry salad and garden greens, and Stephanie had leftover black bean + sweet potato salad.

IMG_1802

Plus a glass of vino for me

IMG_1801

Perfect dinner!

IMG_1804

That was until the homemade vanilla bean ice cream appeared in front of me. Evan made it this afternoon with 1.5 beans (more than the recipe, apparently) and it was INCREDIBLE!! Like marshmallow, which you all know by know I am obsessed with.

IMG_1812

The beer tasting continued, but I was the driver so I took small sips while Matt gulped down California-souvenir Pliny the Elder.

IMG_1813

We are home, home on the range, and ready for bed!

I’m not sure I get the “marshmallow” – is it the texture or the taste you like?

The taste. I’d describe things that are marshamallowy as amped-up vanilla with a really thick mouthfeel.

Ooo, marshmallow ice cream would be my favorite. If only I could find the flavor!! I tried to get marshmallow on top of my soft-serve tonight, but they were all out. And you know you and Matt are probably the kind of couple others want to be just like, so it all evens out in the end. :-p

If I made homemade ice cream this time of year where I live, I’d have to eat it with gloves on! It’s cold here in the midwest. But I would do it, because anything with vanilla bean in it that tastes like marshmallows, I’m all for it! Yummo!
