Doggone It

You may have seen on Instagram that Gussie had knee surgery this week for a torn meniscus. He did great and came home wagging his tail and seeming energetic. This is the same knee he had ACL surgery on last July. Gus will have to do another 6-8 weeks of solitary confinement in the mud room, which is probably a lot harder for him than the physical recovery. He has to be in this room because it’s the only way to get outside to go potty and avoid a long flight of stairs (Thomas re-built his ramp), plus it’s secluded away from UPS drivers and other exciting visitors. Our vet says he’s just too big, active, and friendly for his aging knees. If anyone wants to come lick up all the crumbs while he’s recovering – just let me know!?

April Showers

Our grass is glowing neon green again! How long do you think that will last this year? Last year we had a chinch bug infestation that turned it into thatch. Crossing fingers the neon sticks around this time! Thomas has been working so hard on it.

Sunshine

We’ve seen peeks of sunshine, but most of our weekend was rainy/cloudy. I am more thankful for sunshine than ever. Getting outside and going for walks is the only way we are surviving this quarantine.

Pillow Forts, Blocks, Legos

Sunshine and pillow forts!!! Our sectional is the Pearce from Pottery Barn in the fabric Recycled Cotton Denim Blue. I got it 30% off in 2015 and it’s holding up SO well with two kids climbing all over it every single day. (Or upstairs sectional is not holding up quite so well – the cushions are a bit more saggy and the fabric is not as stain repelling as I’d hoped.)

Downtown Mall = Deserted

We went for a dreary stroll downtown and it was so sad to see the mall so empty. When I’m at home in my house things feel normal, but the second I step into the real world (or turn on the news) the weight of the world’s situation comes crashing back down.

Good Eats

Leftover shrimp scampi = always just as good the next day! (+ two mozzarella balls!)

This Pippin Hill Viognier was so delish! Reminder you can get 15% off your order with KATHEATS till the end of today!

Egg Salad?

Most recent popular lunch: eggs on salads. So quick and easy.

Coconut Magic Shell

A green smoothie with coconut butter magic shell! I forgot how good this combo is 🙂

Peace out!

Would Thomas be willing to do a post with his lawn tips? I think this might be the year I put in the work to improve my yard, but it’s hard to know where to start!

I will ask him! We have had a company called Turf HD come and do some professional fertilizing, aeration, and seeding in the fall. Thomas has done some of each on his own too. And he keeps it optimally cut for growth.

Just some feedback on the new site, which I hope is working well for you.

Your posts no longer show up in full on Feedly. I’m guessing that’s intentional so you get the clicks/ad revenue, and hopefully that’s having a positive effect. But it does stop me (and potentially others) from accessing your posts at work, since your site is blocked as social media but feedly is not. It does affect the frequency I’m able to catch up with you.

Your videos stop playing when you are looking at another screen, and that’s the most annoying thing ever. I think very few people watch a video without flipping to another screen to check email, check in on social media, write in word, etc. We’d pause the feed if we wanted to. Having it just stop makes the video watching experience much less pleasant. I just stopped watching the video rather than deal with it.

      Hi Megan,

Thanks for the feedback. The RSS change was actually because of spammers stealing my content via my feed, not just for more clicks. I have posted this message in a few places. Hope you understand as most people have.

Thank you so much for subscribing to my posts by email. I am honored to be a part of your daily routine.

I am writing to let you know that my RSS feed has been abused by spammers more times than I can count this year. Spammers subscribe to my blog posts and publish the full posts to their own sites to gain SEO clout and make money from ads. While it wouldn’t bother me to much if some of my food recaps were stolen, I really don’t like seeing my family’s photos on strange sites.

Each time I get an alert this is happening, I write a letter about the copyright infringement to their server host, who ususally either asks the spammer to remove all of my posts or shuts the site down. I have sent over 25 letters to hosts to have my content removed. Each time I succeed I think that will be the end of it, but then a new wave of spammers surface.

The best way to stop this from happening is to limit how much of my full posts is shown in the feed. Thus, unless I can figure out a work around for you guys, you’ll start receiving only the title and first few sentences of each post by email.

I am truly sorry to disappoint, as I know how convenient it is to read the whole post right in your inbox. But please know my posts will still be one direct click away.

      Thank you for your understanding,

      Kath

The new website has a painfully slow loading time. With all of the ad videos that play it is super hard to scroll and read content. It’s common that there are 3 ad videos running at the same time (footer, right side, middle of the screen). I often give up and rarely read your posts to the end.

Hey Kath! Wishing Gus a speedy recovery! Can you share how to build the ramp/how y’all trained Gus to use it? Our dog (rescued from the Cville SPCA) had ACL surgery on both knees and just had spinal surgery last week. We need to train her to use a ramp off of our deck and not go on furniture. Wish us luck!

We walk him down on the leash right now. Thomas used three 2x10s side-by-side for our 5-6 stairs. They only cover half of the width. The adults walk down the steps and Gus is next to us on the ramp. Once he’s a lot more agile he will probably be able to go down on his own.
