Day In The Life

Good morning!! It’s 5:40am and I’m up and at ‘em for Thursday morning athletic conditioning. Because I only get up once per week for an early class, I don’t dread it like I might if I was a daily occurrence (as it used to be back in the day!) It’s sort of, almost exciting to get up this early once a week!

Foodblog-45

Despite going to be really early, I didn’t quite hit 8 hours. Mazen woke up crying in the middle of the night and was hard to get back to sleep : (

2014-10-30 09.46.46 (338x600)

After getting dressed and teeth brushing, I eat half a banana to ward off mid-workout hunger and give me some fuel to start.

Foodblog-55

Class is a good one for me and I feel strong ‘till the end despite being very tired and drenched in sweat! Here’s my Thursday AM bud Lynsie! People think we are twins all the time.

Foodblog-05

Back at home, I sneak in a shower and get dressed before Mazen wakes up. Outfit of the day is mostly Stitch Fix!

Foodblog-28

7:45 M is up! We head to the kitchen for breakfast and say goodbye to Matt. M has toast, yogurt and pear.

Foodblog-05-2

I give this guy a try – so much spice flavor! Loved it.

Foodblog-05-3

Served with some Carrot Walnut muffin from the bakery, almond butter and pear cubes

Foodblog-08

I get Mazen dressed – in his Halloween costume! It’s the day before and he has a party at preschool. No tears this time! After some practicing he gets that costume = fun and treats.

Foodblog-31-2

Tooth brushing for us both

Foodblog-34

I quickly clean up the kitchen

Foodblog-34-2

And we’re off!

Foodblog-34-3

Back at home, I have a little time to work on emails and comments before a 9:30 call with Relay Foods about a potential project.

Foodblog-09

After my call, I head up to Homegoods to meet my friend Sarah who asked me to help her pick out some décor for her new house. {Reason #562 why preschool days rock!)

Foodblog-41

I ended up buying a new piece for our family room, which needed something a little bigger than the small frame I had there.

Before:

Foodblog-32

After. Love the glam.

Foodblog-48

I put the frame in the kitchen!

Foodblog-11

Costume change – it’s getting warm outside and sweater was making me sweat!

Foodblog-29

I walk back to preschool (which is about a half mile away) and get the kiddo! The Halloween party was a blast.

Foodblog-18

Our walk home was a slow one because Mazen wanted to walk.

Foodblog-27

We put up his new artwork before playing trains for a little while.

Foodblog-01

Then it’s lunchtime!

Foodblog-10

M has leftover lasagna, carrot sticks and an apple.

I heat up leftover mac and cheese, toss in some salad greens and add carrot sticks. I also eat Mazen’s leftover lasagna and half his apple.

Foodblog-11-2

The mail comes!!! A Halloween card from Grammie!

Foodblog-31-3

Pre-nap snuggles on the couch while we read some books.

Foodblog-49

Night night Mazen!

I make tea – my naptime ritual these days

Foodblog-49-2

And open a package from a new small-batch nut butter company called Buddy’s! It was founded by recent college grad, Andrew, aka Buddy. I taste the chocolate right away and it’s heavenly – kind of gritty almost like little bits of crackle inside!? The cinnamon raisin reminds me of pumpkin spice!

Foodblog-45-2

Afternoon Jawbone check! Goal met!

2014-10-30 17.55.46 (338x600)

I sit down to 2 solid hours of work at my computer, including uploading these photos and writing this post up to here! I also had a call with a sponsor. Exciting times. And an empty inbox at the end!

Foodblog-19

Mazen woke up just before 5 and had some granola bar for a snack.

Foodblog-10-2

Matt came home a little later and the boys went out for a walk.

Foodblog-46

I got started on dinner: sausage and root soup!

Foodblog-47

While the soup simmered, I headed back down to wrap up on the computer for the day. I thought about opening a bottle of wine but I decided to pass since there is a good chance ice cream is in the cards tonight during Survivor hour!

Foodblog-06

Then it was time for dinner! I added frozen greens to the soup. It was OK, but not amazing.

Foodblog-50 this !

Mazen liked it! But he didn’t eat too much of the spinach. We also shared some Honey Whole Wheat rolls on the side.

Foodblog-50-2

After dinner we read stories…

Foodblog-25

Had a tea party…

Foodblog-32-2

And then read more stories in bed after bath. Diggers Go is the best!

Foodblog-02

We also love Goodnight Construction Site.

Foodblog-06-2

After M went to bed, Hillary and Ellen came over for some Survivor!! We try not to have dessert every night during our Survivor parties (most of the time it’s just hot tea), but I just got some new ice cream flavors from Sweet Sandies that we had to try.

Foodblog-32-3

Amazing!!

Foodblog-48-3

As was Survivor.

Foodblog-48-2

Lights out at 10:26!

just out of curiosity, since i have a one year old who goes to bed at 7 (and i love it) do you prefer him to bed later and waking up later, as opposed to bed earlier and wake up earlier? i prefer to have time in the evening alone.

It’s really a toss up. I’d love a 7pm bedtime for the evening time to myself, but it also means we can go out to dinner with him more easily and attend parties and things. And the sleeping in later is a huge bonus. They both have pros and cons, but I am pretty happy with the later bedtime and wake.

he goes to bed at 830 and has started sleeping later in the past few months. Matt just came off a month of 3:30 a.m. work So he is taking it easy a couple days a week. Remember he is a business owner and our wonderful staff do the early shift most of the time.

Oh also, we have the same high chair and I just lowered the seat so it would fit under our dining room table. You can also take the little center piece out of the seat, but I didn’t do that part yet because we still need the straps. Anyway, I didn’t remember this feature until I was heavy duty cleaning it and saw the notches for lower settings when I turned it over. We used to just pull the highchair with the tray up to the table, but this made meal time even better (I think R likes to be at the table like a big boy), although it is a little messier without the tray! Just thought I’d let you know in case you had forgotten, like me!

I tend to balance it out over the year, and I don’t have a budget for clothes but a budget for “all personal stuff” which might include a pedi, massage, makeup, haircuts, and clothes. So if I buy too many clothes I paint my nails myself or go an extra month without a haircut : )

Sounds like a busy, fun day. Definitely what I would like my life to look like in the future (once I have a child). I’m sure the day was a lot harder than it sounded, though. I can’t believe how big Mazen is getting! He’s a little man!
Thanks for sharing your day with us. I always love when my fave bloggers do these kinds of posts. It’s always so interesting to see how our days are similar and different, how we all use the time we’re given in a day.
