Date With Kate + Nate

We have visitors!! Remember our friends Kate + Nate from Charlotte!? They’re passing through on a road trip from New York and are spending tonight with us. We finally got to meet their baby, Liam! The last time I saw Kate she was 8 months pregnant!

IMG_0322-2Blog

We had a great time tonight and took them downtown – despite the rain the fact that nearly all of the downtown restaurants were closed!

We ended up at Rapture, which was a serendipitous event that ended in a pretty fabulous meal

IMG_0334-2Blog

I had a Cornbread Panzanella Salad and a Shrimp + Grits appetizer. The perfect combo of two small plates to make a meal.

IMG_0325-2BlogIMG_0333-2Blog

These shrimp were AWESOME!! And the grits – made with gruyere!

IMG_0332-2Blog

Liams Eats Real Food – grilled cheese + oranges!

IMG_0323-2Blog

Kate and Nate brought me biscoff!! And the SPREAD!! Haven’t had it in ages – this stuff is so darn good! Had a few of these smothered in spread for dessert ; )

IMG_0335-3Blog

Pre-guest snack – a really great pear!

IMG_6737Blog

I think Matt is a wee bit freaked out about all the stuff that comes along with traveling with a baby. Hopefully Liam’s charm will win him over!

Liam is a cutie-pie! I agree that there can be a lot of stuff when traveling with a baby (I don’t have kids, but I am the eldest child in my family), but I think it’s all what you make it to be 🙂

Babies are a HUGE hassle. Unless their yours. Then every lost minute of sleep, every moment lugging around all their necessities, all the time spent catering to them somehow makes you the happiest person on earth.

Don’t freak out Matt! Kids can be as simple or as complicated as you want them to be. Everyone is different! Just because they had a lot of stuff doesn’t mean YOU have to!

    Reply
  21. Bridget says

    September 5, 2011 at 8:32 pm

Yeah, don’t sweat the baby gear thing. I’ve got three kids, and have travelled with less and less stuff for each of them as babies, having learned along the way that what they really “need” is very little, albeit what they do need is likely more unwieldy than anything YOU need.

If you go to Belgium you should try the Biscoff/Speculoos version of Jenever, a liquor from which gin was later derived. Yum.

    • Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says

      September 5, 2011 at 8:44 pm

Agreed, Bridget. I went as gearless as possible with mine. Less is more. Mainstream baby magazines and people in general make you want to believe you have to have all this “stuff” to have a baby or to travel with one. When really, you don’t. Keep it simple, Kath, whenever the time comes for you guys!

Travelling with a baby doesn’t have to be that complicated – I promise. With the first one, you carry everything (including the kitchen sink) with you. By the second one, you pare it right down to the necessities…and I promise, they are worth every darn bag/stroller/pack-n-play!

  25. Eileen says

Ha ha, I was just going to say what Janelle and Bridget said. More kids = less gear. You realize that all they really need is mama. (OK, and a diaper.)
