Current Beauty Favs

Foodblog (3 of 7)

It’s always a happy, happy day when my monthly Birchbox arrives!! I am obsessed with samples, and use them in my gym and travel bags. I’ve also found a ton of products that I love so much I’ve bought the full size too. Birchbox also has a great program where you can earn points for reviewing products and get freebies too – check it out!

One of the best parts about it, though, are the boxes. What started as a simple brown box back in the day has morphed into the most beautiful collections in my house!

Foodblog (5 of 7)

I use the boxes to store things in my Home Decorators hutch – look how perfectly they fit and how colorful they make it! [They’re also the perfect size for mailing small things or organizing drawers! #newusesforoldthings]

But back to my beauty favs! I get a lot of questions about my daily routine, which isn’t really anything special, but it’s always fun to see what other people love. Over a year ago I wrote this post about my skincare consultation with The Complexion Concierge. I’m still using many of her recommendations (specifically the Paula’s Choice line).

Here’s my shower + make-up process from start to finish these days!

Cleansers

Shampoo + Conditioner  – Alba Hawaiian Plumeria (the BEST SMELLING shampoo there is but a bit hard to find!!)

Soap – Lavender Good Soap from Whole Foods

Face wash – Alba Sea Minerals (a long time favorite!)

Razor – Dollar Shave Club (have you heard of this? You get blades in the mail for a great price!)

Dry Shampoo – Birchbox Amika (for days when my shower is postponed! This stuff smells amazing and rocks!)

Hair protector/detangler –Birchbox Beauty Protector (smells amazing!)

Night face cleanser wipes – Mary Kay Cleansing cloths

Skincare

Day

Toner – Paula’s Choice Resist Replenishing Toner

AHA – Paula’s Choice Resist Daily Resurfacing Treatment

Moisturizer – Paula’s Choice Resist Super-Light Wrinkle Defense SPF 30

Warmer months sunscreen  – Paula’s No Greasy

Night

Toner – same

AHA – same

Weekly Strong AHA –Paula’s Choice Resist Weekly Resurfacing Treatment 10% AHA

Moisturizer – Paula’s Choice Resist Intensive Repair Cream

Eye Cream – RESIST Eye Cream

Make-up

Foundation –Birchbox Supergoop CC Cream or Sweat (depending on coverage! Supergoop was an original Birchbox find and I still think it’s the best I’ve used)

Concealer – It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye (I have no idea where I got this sample but it’s the best ever and i reordered from Amazon)

Blush – Mary Kay Sheer Dimensions (my friend Lauren sold this to me, and I love the color and shimmer)

Eyeshadow –Birchbox Coastal Scents Revealed Palette (the best Birchbox eyeshadow!)

Mascara –Birchbox Benefit Lengthening Mascara

Eyeliner – Cynthia Rowley Beauty Eyeliner

Lips – Mary Kay Fancy Nancy lip gloss!! And my homemade balm obsessed.

And for fun –

Curling Iron – Bio Ionic Stylewinder (best ever! recommendation from Anne P : ) )

Man that seemed like a lot of products! I feel like I’m a pretty simple girl too – I can shower and get ready in about 20 minutes : )

What’s your favorite must-have beauty product for 2016!?

For many years, I would solely purchase salon hair care products and then after a recommendation from my mom, I decided to try the Garnier Fructis line Brazilian Care with Keratin and have really liked the styling line. I use two of their products also recently purchased the shampoo version, but haven’t used that yet, but thus far have been pleased with their styling aids. Plus, the price is right – it is frequently on sale and there always seems to be coupons available.

The boxes are worth the subscription on it’s own, I definitely need to step my game up with my beauty routine. I swear I’ve been using the same products since I was 17!

LOL took me awhile to realize you meant “fave.” Love your cute and unique spelling! So Kath! 🙂

Bye bye under eye is the BEST! I got a sample tube from a beauty editor friend once, but the label wore off. Once I realized how obsessed with it I was, I spent HOURS at Ulta scouring the shelves until I found it again. Haha

Thank you for sharing, and those boxes are really pretty! I must be really really simple because I only use a few things. 😉 I discovered L’Bri last year and use their face wash, scrub, and moisturizer. I love Pixi Beauty and use their tinted moisturizer, blush, eye shadow, eye liner (I love them!), and I have one lipstick. I also use the Naked2 palette thanks to my sister, Burt’s Bees lip care and color, and I’ve been a fan of Maybelline mascara for years and years. 🙂

Those boxes! Omg! Love them. I have only used ipsy which I love the bags, but those boxes! I may have to give it a try! I love Paula’s choice, also love my clarisonic! I have seen such a difference in my skin since using it.

I used Bye Bye Undereye for the past 2 years, until last week, when I tried the new Makeup Forever HD concealer. It is the absolute BEST, and I have tried so many high end under eye concealers. It isn’t quite as tacky / sets better, and has amazing coverage even if you use the lightest shade. I will probably never bother with anything else, and would seriously recommend it to anyone. I have a feeling they’ll get a Best Of award this year for it

I’m curious if any of these skincare options are what were recommended by that skincare consultant you had written about awhile back? I thought that was such a clever service.

Do you find you change products very often (especially with new things coming in the BirchBoxes), or are some of these long-term favorites?

Yes she recommended a lot of the Paula’s Choice ones! I am always tempted to change, but those have all been great, so I’m sticking with them for a while

FYI-I saw the Alba Plumeria shampoo at Marshall’s within the last week and it was discounted. My store had a huge supply and had other scents as well.

I always thought Dollar Shave Club was just for men. I guess I didn’t put a whole lot of thought into it…of course women can use men’s razors (and I have before too!)! I was just checking out their site…what razors do you like?

How’s the weather where you are!?

I’m using the Executive ones, which obviously are the best because they’re the most expensive. The middle level was pretty good though!

Side note–if you’re using DSC already, I HIGHLY recommend their Dr. Carver’s Miracle Repair Serum ($12 for 2 oz). It’s a beautiful formula and less than half the Paula’s Choice product!

Also, DSC has brought out some new sunscreens that look promising too, and are in an incredibly affordable price range! I’m doing some research currently to find out more!

I’m obsessed with No. 4 haircare products. They smell amazing and are vegan, and cruelty-free. Really cool people, too. I complimented them on Instagram and they wound up sending me a box of all kinds of deluxe samples! I also recently discovered Amazing Cosmetics concealers – it is like an eraser, it is amazing. Lastly, it’s a splurge, but my sister gave me a little pot of Terry Rose de Baume lip balm – it is INSANE. You’ll never use anything else. Happy 2016, Kath!
