Cravings

Early to bed, early to bound out of bed for a run. Considering all the consumption on this trip, I sure have had great morning runs. I’m not sure why! On a normal week at home I can barely find the energy to go in the AM. I wonder if it’s eating so much before going to bed that’s filling up my muscle energy stores 😉

We’re staying right on the Embarcadero, so we had the perfect running route just steps away. We headed left towards the Golden Gate and had the MOST BEAUTIFUL views!!! The sunrise was hitting it with the ideal glow.

The run towards the bridge was great because, although I didn’t realize it at the time, we had the wind on our backs. 8:15 miles easy! The run back was not as easy and a few hills plus the wind slowed us into the 9:00 pace. All in all, 5.33 miles of breakfast running.

There was discussion of Ferry Building breakfast and all kinds of AM ideas, but we realized we had less time and more ground to cover than we though, so we had to settle for Starbucks.

[Holy white balance error!!!]

It’s far from perfect, but they make a good effort 🙂

Amped up with banana, half of the packets of raisins and nuts, Frog Hollow granola and a spoonful of Ashley’s Pumpkin Spice Almond Butter. STILL IN LOVE!

I am craving:

  • Lentil soup (random week-long craving!)
  • Carrots
  • Virginia apples
  • Green smoothies
  • Bleu cheese over garden greens
  • Sunny side up eggs
  • Raw spinach
  • Tomato paste
  • Plain yogurt
  • Roasted sweet potatoes
  • Green beans

Take me home!

Blue cheese over garden greens sounds good to me. With some bacon crumbled on top!

I hate when I do that with the white balance. Sometimes in certain lighting its hard to tell until its too late and then you’re left with a bunch of blue or yellow pics. Blah.

Still got all the really good photos captured for us to look at – the food and scenery. 🙂

Is there really anything better than a trip to Starbucks? It may sound silly, but I think it’s one of the most comforting places. Starbucks and Panera.

One of the main reasons I want to go on vacation is so that I have new scenery to look at during my runs! Maybe being in a new place is giving you the energy and motivation to get out there and RUN 🙂

I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed your stay in San Francisco and your beautiful runs! I am a San Francisco girl, and I really think it’s one of the best running spots in the world. There is gorgeous scenery everywhere you turn! I hope you have a safe trip back home! 🙂

Mmm – your cravings list has me thinking…big pot of lentil soup this weekend! And I agree about Starbucks oatmeal – as long as you have something to jazz it up, it makes a decent starting point. 🙂

I know what you mean about vacation cravings. I do it, too. In fact, I always crave green beans when I’m on vacay. EVERY time, and yet, it isn’t really something I eat all that often. So weird.

Carrots are definitely the first thing I crave when I’ve been away from home for a while, followed by other veggies in general! I find my intake goes severely downwards when I’m traveling and it always feels so so good to load up on them all again when I get home. Awesome run! 🙂

That’s good thinking about the energy storage. It’d make sense that muscles would have more energy stored up in the morning after a large meal at night since your body’s going through glycolysis and making ATP, but it’s not spending it while sleeping. Cool! That could be why I’m always so much more energized for morning workouts than afternoon ones.

The granola looks like dessert to me! I need to make up a batch as soon as I can, but I’m kind of going through a break from much eating, relying upon smoothies and shakes for most of my nutrition. I can tell why you are having cravings with all that yummy food around! ; )

mmmm tomato paste! 🙂 Kath, I have it almost everyday. On top of chicken, some fresh spinach (another of your cravings :P) and lots and lots of GOAT CHEESE. The goat cheese is cold, but all other parts are warm, just barely. SO good. Try it!

Big hugs and be safe on your way home. Yay for home. XOXO and Yay for eggs. I like mine soft boiled, just a teeny bit soft in the middles. Wanna fly to Indiana on your way back, and I’ll make you lunch. 😀

I bet you have more energy b/c your body is still on east coast time…. so going for a 7 am run in SF is like 10 back home. I’ve had the same thing when vacationing on the west coast. Glad you’re taking advantage of the energy & getting in some good runs!

This may sound silly, but what is the difference between a misto and a latte taste wise? I know what a misto and latte each contain, but it seems like they would ultimately taste the same? Usually I order a latte at Starbucks, but the misto sounds interesting, and I read on their website it is actually lower in calories. Any insight on this? 🙂

They taste the same – the only difference is the amount of milk. A misto has less so it’s a bit less thick and also less calories.
