Chips > Soggy Greens

Eventful afternoon of blogging and blog-related tasks, including BERF + an hour-long conference call.

Followed by my favorite snack: cereal

Honey bunches & milk

Then I went to pre-natal yoga (tonight instead of my regular class because I have book club tomorrow!) I went to Bend, a prenatal and mother/child yoga studio downtown. It was very nice!! (My regular teacher teachers there on Mondays) A good stretch throughout my whole body – but also harder to do on a day I had already exercised! The class is pretty relaxing, but some of the arm moves were hard on my fatigued upper body.

PSA: In my sunscreen post I showed the bottle I bought. A few of you were astute enough to recognize that I bought the wrong one!!! The PURE & SIMPLE is the one that is EWG rated, not the regular (chemicals included) Water Babies. Matt found Pure & Simple at Wal-mart while running bakery errands for $8.99 – lowest price to date! So now I have 5 bottles of sunscreen to take to the beach, 3 P&S and 2 of the regular.

Dinner tonight was a Matt special – seared and baked chicken, kale chips and leftover rice

IMG_1001

I am still a litttttttle iffy on veggies, but I sure enjoyed these chips! I’m sure I would not have enjoyed them so much sauteed.

IMG_1004

The chicken was from a local farm that I bought at the market last Wednesday. Not quite as good as our normal herby marinated chicken from the Organic Butcher, but still tasty. I only ate half of what you see (chicken-wise) and we saved the rest of the meat for Wednesday’s dinner (a pre-cut up leg just wouldn’t have looked very pretty on the plate : ) )

I’m too full for anything rich or sweet, but my mouth needs a little something more than water – methinks a few of those breakfast cherries sound perfect!

I haven’t seen the “pure and simple” yet. We have the original Water Babies and it’s very hard to rub in! It feels almost like diaper rash cream and my daughter ends up with a film that takes 10 minutes to finally absorb. I’ll have to look for the “pure and simple”.

I found the CVS plus Zinc sunscreen today thanks to your research. It was $6.99 but ended up being $5 due to their current sale. I was going to buy the Water Babies Pure and Simple but my local Walmart drove the price up! We’ll see how the CVS works this go around. Water Babies may be next.

The only downside is that it’s only a 4oz bottle. The largest they have in the plus Zinc.

It’s been raining so much here I haven’t even thought about sunscreen…must get on that ASAP before the inevitable happens when the sun comes out and I’m caught empty handed.

    Hi Kath,

In your original post you said the Water Babies was hard to wash off. I am wondering if you’ve tried out the pure and simple yet and noticed a similar difficulty? Also, if you have tried the pure and simple, does it absorb easily? Hoping to make my sunscreen purchase this week! Your tips were phenomenal and I had no idea about the EWG website. I learn so much from your beautiful blog! : ) xo wishing you a beautiful rest of the week!

Your Kale chips look so good! Somehow I always manage to burn the outsides of mine while leaving the middle tasting strangely undercooked. I must experiment with temperatures. Also, love the generous slather of ketchup on top. Perfect!

The very middle is often just a bit undercooked… Adds to the texture!

Thank you so much for that Sunscreen post! I have fair skin and burn easily and am always looking for the least chemically sunscreen. I usually pick something up at Whole Foods that goes on like spackle. I’m going to keep an eye out for the Coppertone.

Also, I have found that mixing an exfolliator in with the soap helps remove the sunscreen (the kind I wear use zinc and are always tough to get off.)

Have you done any research on safe bug spray? My last pregnancy by OB told me not to use anything, so I didn’t and was miserable all summer long. I’m 31 weeks along and have a few more months of bonfire weather and really want to be outside! 🙂

I haven’t. I think that’s a much more challenging ball game. However, our Blue Ridge Eco Shop has bug sprays for kids and babies, so I would hope they would be safe enough for a pregnant woman too?

Sunscreen-wise…I thought I saw that on the blog, but thought I was misunderstanding the EWG post ha. I bought Coppertone Sensitive Skin SPF 50 to try when I go to the beach in a few weeks. I found a $1 off coupon in the paper- Everyone look before you buy so you can save. 🙂
