Brunch At The Oakhurst Inn

Foodblog (1 of 9)

After a delicious first visit, the Oakhurst Inn invited me back in for bunch last week! This little farm-to-table cafe is a hidden gem on the corner of Jefferson Park Avenue (called JPA ’round here!).

Two of my girlfriends joined me for brunch on the last day of summer camp for the older kids.

One of my friends tried the bloody mary which was made with carrot juice! She said it was fab – so fresh.

Foodblog (3 of 9)

I had a delicious cappuccino! Happily frothed.

For the little one at the table, we ordered a blueberry muffin, which came split, grilled and buttered. We all shared a taste – it was divine. One of the best muffins I’ve had. We should all be grilling our muffins!

The entrees were wonderful as well, and we feasted – lots of sharing.

The baked local farm eggs came with a spicy tomato basil sauce, Caramont Farm Red Row cheese, Swiss chard, and crostini.

The buckwheat shortcakes were still my favorite – with Virginia hickory syrup, Empire apple compote, and whipped ginger cream. Love how hearty these cakes are!!

Foodblog (7 of 9)

Finally we shared the eggs meurette – eggs poached in Burgundy wine, with sautéed shiitake mushrooms asparagus, applewood bacon, crostini.

Needless to say, this meal was breakfast and lunch for the day!

Thanks to the Oakhurst Inn for hosting us : )

Yes to grilling muffins! I have fond memories from high school of going to the local diner with my friends and ordering grilled, buttered corn muffins. So yum.

We stayed at the Oakhurst Inn when touring UVA with my son. Such a nice place! They give guests the most incredible ginger chew cookies in the rooms as a turndown-service treat. I’d return just for those!

I am wholesomely addicted to the froth. In fact I have my own frother that each time the froth is eaten up I froth it all over again and eat it again until the drink is finished.

One of my favorite brunch spots in SF, St Francis Soda Fountain serves an amazing banana bread grilled with butter. You should definitely give it a try considering the amazing bread you have at your disposal- it’s heavenly!
