Brownie Points

IMG_5529Blog

Rice cooker oats came out perfect today!!! Although they were brown and I’m not really sure why. Either I added a ton of cinnamon or the bananas caramelized on the bottom. Both are delicious options!

IMG_5524Blog

Check out the volume on this bowl!! HUGE! Texture was great too.

IMG_5526Blog

Ingredients: 1/3 cup coach’s oats, 1.33 cups water, half banana, pinch salt, sprinkle cinnamon, 1 tbsp currants, 1 tbsp chia seeds. [I think the chias helped absorb some water and keep the texture thicker]

Setting: porridge + timer

Mix ins: Stirred in 1/3 cup cottage cheese at end and allowed to warm

Toppings: Nuts About Granola Lover’s Blend + almond butter

IMG_5521Blog

Delicate eaters would have said “oh dear, this bowl was so much I couldn’t finish it all” but I had no problem

 this !

I think the key to the super volume is increasing the water/liquid amounts. It will take longer to cook on the stovetop, but if volume is your goal, it will be worth the wait.

keep meaning to try voluminous out oats, were you cook them partially at night, or do you have any handy methods? I’d just be worried the oats will get lost in in the extra liquid if left to simmer away!

Actually I’ve been really surprised at how easy it is. No harder than cleaning out a non-stick pot. In fact, I think it’s even easier because the surface is even slipperier and after a 20 minute soak (while I’m enjoying my oats) the oats just rinse out – barely a sponge is needed. If my crockpot would clean out this easy, I would use it a lot more too

Wow- that IS a volumized bowl! Since I have the exact same bowl, I can use it as reference. I always use 1/2 c. of oats- I can’t believe this is only 1/3 (and yeah- I realize the cottage cheese adds some bulk, but still!)
Grilled banana is a preferred topping for me- unfortunately, I can really only do it on the weekend.
