Borrowed Time

We were supposed to pack our bags and leave the island yesterday, but after a gloomy few days and then a forecast of sun, we decided to stay one extra day. Time well spent!

IMG_7575

Because we knew this was a day of borrowed time, we made the most of it. Breakfast was served on the balcony – almond butter cinnamon raisin toast and a huge bowl of fresh berries and granola.

Our innkeeper’s doggie was here visiting, and Mazen wanted to compare tongues!

IMG_7566

We then all went on a walk (doggie included!) to see Old Baldy.

After our walk, we took M to one of the nature spots on the island in hopes of seeing the alligator who lives there. I have no idea where that gator was, but he didn’t seem to be under the deck as promised! We did spot a nice turtle friend.

We went back to the Peli for lunch, and in an effort to eat more veggies I ordered a veggie panini. I was just too cold for a salad, and I’d had both of the salads on the menu already this week! The sandwich was hardly veggie-heavy, but it was pretty darn cheesy-good.

Pea took one for the team and got in the pool with Mazen. It was heated, but it was still on the cold side! They played on the steps for a while, and M went down the small water slide, which was not a hit!

Next stop: the beach!

IMG_7582

We spent a few hours there this afternoon, and it was glorious. M loved digging and making sand castles. The water is still way too cold for swimming, but luckily there was still plenty to do. I just started The Wreckage on my Kindle, and it’s really good.

The beach nap that almost happened!

After 5 nights of going to bed late, M was just exhausted. We knew a dinner out wasn’t in the cards, so we opened a bottle of wine and ordered in from one of the two harbor restaurants. It ended up being a great dinner! Mom and I split a mahi and shrimp burrito bowl and we each had a house mango salad.

We watched Surivor live and boy was it a good episode!! #TeamShirin, hard core!

Today we make the very loooong treck home. But we are excited!! We have missed Matt and our friends and neighbors so much : )

What a great day! I’m definitely enjoying this season of Survivor, though I never get it live, it’s always a treat when I find time to watch! 🙂

I read BERF all through my pregnancy, now reading KERF in my struggle to lose wait while breastfeeding without hurting my supply (no success so far) but I’m finally commenting to say… Will is a jerk and I hate him!!!

I have been meaning to use almond butter more often and that second photo with the mixed berries looks like the perfect way to do it. I shall make for breakfast tomorrow!

You need to consider putting in an asparagus bed. I put that off for years(25 to be exact) because I kept thinking we might sell that little house. Then we finally did and I knew we wouldn’t be in that house forever because it was too big and foolish for the two of us. We all have those dreams, don’t we? So finally we are in our forever/until we die/the kids have to come and get us place and I finally started that asparagus bed three years ago. We are eating asparagus five minutes out of the ground and it is magnificent!
