Battle Of The Fryin’ Pans

It rained and rained today so I decided to forfeit my workout to the rain gods.

That is until the skies cleared up at 5pm! I’d been working at my computer all afternoon and a walk sounded awesome, so I donned my headphones and podcasts and went on a 45 minute power walk around the neighborhood! Totally reclaimed the day.

Uncle Sam Strawberry (which is from last year’s Healthy Living Summit, I believe!), banana and milk for a snack.

IMG_6269Blog

And later on: a duel.

IMG_6284Blog

We had leftovers planned for dinner. To each his/her own!

Here’s what we were armed with:

  • Cooked brown rice
  • Cooked millet
  • Black beans + corn
  • Eggs
  • Goat cheese
  • Cheddar cheese
  • Carrots
  • Spring mix
  • Green beans
  • Frozen peas

IMG_6271Blog

Two pans (er, one pot, one pan)

Rice, peas + beans for me

IMG_6273Blog

Millet, black beans, corn, carrots for him.

IMG_6272Blog

Both had eggs stirred in and cheese on top. Check out Matt’s cheese!

IMG_6274Blog

Mine ended up with goat cheese and Doug’s Nuts on top!

IMG_6283Blog

The nuts gave the whole dish a mapley aroma that mixed with the egg and reminded me of brunch.

IMG_6281Blog

Deep inside:

IMG_6282Blog

Check out Matt’s monster!! I took one bite and nearly spit it back out because of the carrots!?!!?! I ate carrot for lunch yesterday, but these shredded ones did NOT sit well.

IMG_6279Blog

Wish dish would you prefer?

IMG_6286Blog

I’m actually not having a very good night, physically. Nausea hit me before dinner and I don’t know why! I had a snack with protein, carbs and fat, I drank water all day long, I took my meds at lunch. So odd, but I can’t seem to shake it.

There is one cure that almost always works. It starts with ice and ends with cream.

You gotta go what you gotta do…

Sorry about the sickness!! rough stuff! I just have to give my two cents…sorry if its annoying. Have you tried lemons with your nausea? I used to keep them on hand and when it hit hard, it helped SO much to just cut them open and smell them, lick the lemon and it seemed to take the edge off.

    Hope it eases very soon!!

My nurse told me to go to the drugstore and get these wrist bands called “seabands”. They do not contain medication. They are terri cloth wrist bands that have a metal button that sits at your accupressure point under the wrist. Supposed to help with nausea. They are called seabands because you wear them if you are on a boat and tend to get sea sick. I wear them when we fly. Maybe it’s psychological but I think they help. One of my other friends used to keep an umeboshi plum in their mouth. They are really salty. You can get them in the health food store. I think they are pickled japanese plums. Ginger may help but for all the above, check with your dr to make sure it’s OK. Good old saltines and ginger ale helped me alot. I used to get sick only at night go figure. Put the food in the oven then run from the smell. So many things are changing all at once. It will blow over on it’s own. Hang in there.

I weighed less after delivery than I did before getting pregnant each time…. but anyways… ice cream was the only thing that I could keep down… and fixing a rootbeer float with vanilla ice cream was my go too every day. 🙂

Have you asked your doctor about Zofran? It’s given to chemo patients to combat nausea and is also safe for use during pregnancy. It can be a LIFE SAVER if you’re suffering severe ALL DAY sickness. Mine struck at night after dinner…many a dinner was up chucked during my first trimester. Glad those days are over! Hope you feel better.

How many weeks along are you? Sorry to hear that you weren’t feeling well, but I think maybe your body is just reminding you that it is carrying a baby and needs to rest. I never had “morning sickness” but I would become nauseous in the afternoon or evening. With both of my pregnancies I kept active, worked out every day and often didn’t even feel pregnant but then my body would give me a reminder to rest or eat or hydrate. Pregnancy is a perfect time for women to listen to and respect their bodies. Your dinners both look delicious, but I think I’d choose yours although you both did an awesome job coming up with delicious healthy dinners with leftovers. We love doing that our house. In fact my kids get excited about leftover nights. Hang in there and hopefully you will start feeling better. Ice cream did seem to work like magic when I was nauseous, a spoonful or two always made me feel better, I think it was something about the combination of calcium, sugar and coolness that was comforting. Popsicles, frozen yogurt bars, Grapes, watermelon, cantaloupe, bananas, raisins, dried fruit and nuts are other foods that I remember helping.
