Bars + Bites

My busy long day is coming to an end. But a good one at that. I got most of my to-do list done, including a bonus of cleaning the kitchen floors after dinner.

This afternoon the LaraBar Blog fairy sent a delightful box of fun! Plus a t-shirt!!! I can’t wait to dig into these. As much as I like cereal, yogurt, fruit + PB for snacks, I need to start eating bars!! We have a ton in so many awesome flavors and they are real food!

DSC05835

Continuing the LaraBar theme, I decided to try a JamFranka for snack!! Lunch held me over really well and I just needed something really small. I got this guy along with a few other flavors in Megan’s giveaway!!

DSC05836

It was pretty good! I LOVED the size, and enjoyed the crispy parts. I do think these are better for kids because I just wanted the “grown-up taste” of a LaraBar! WHEN WILL LARABAR MAKE THEIR MINI BARS AVAILABLE FOR SALE!!!!!!

DSC05837

Dinner tonight was homemade pizza – solo! As I mentioned earlier, the husband worked until 8 (he just got home and went straight to bed!) so he left me some dough from the weekend to play with tonight.

DSC05842

I was pretty bad at making the dough thin out into a pizza. I worked it for 10-15 minutes and just couldn’t get it any bigger than pancake. So it was more like a muffin top sized pizza! I cooked some mushrooms and bell pepper in a skillet, pre-cooked the crust a bit, and topped it with some shredded cheese and blue cheese (still working on that huge block I got at BJ’s!) The pizza was delicious and the crust was VERY doughy and perfect. Who needs sauce!? It was too much of a pain to deal with so I just went without.

DSC05840

On the side I made a nice salad with romaine, more bell pepper + shroom, carrot, pom seeds and Annie’s dressing.

DSC05843

Delish!

DSC05839

I had just one tiny bite of pumpkin bark for dessert –

Off to hopefully take a bath and read! I should be studying, but meh to that!

Sounds like a very nice evening 🙂 I’m going to try pom seeds on something tonight! I have a pom that’s been sitting in my fruit bowl for over a week now and I have to use it up!

    Have a great night 🙂

The pizza is cute – and I agree, who needs sauce? I’m not really a fan of all that tomato sauce on pizza anyways!

And jealous of all the LaraBar love that’s going around to all the blogs lately! Enjoy your bars 😀

Pumpkin Bark?? Did you make it or buy it? I want some!!!!

Your pumpkin bark sounds delicious! Is this something your husband brought home from work? I have to keep my eyes peeled for something like this!

    Enjoy your night.

    Kath,

was the dough cold when you were trying to stretch it out? I know you probably already know that it should be at room temp in order to get it to stretch out into a nice circle!

Anyways, despite the lumpiness, your pizza looks wonderful! Besides…pizza dough is pizza dough, right? Who cares if it’s lumpy, it’s delicious anyways!

    Great dinner as usual…

I love sauceless pizza! But sauce once in a while is good since my pizza is always vegan.

Was you pizza dough room temperature? If not, it won’t roll out flat because the gluten is too tight.

And, um, I once tried to “defrost” dough from the fridge – didn’t work – it cooked it!

I read your post this morning about the almond butter and I went straight to their site and bought some! Saved over $10 in shipping. Thanks! Also- it didn’t say anything about a shirt on the site, think I’ll get one?

Seelee live, I asked a similar question a few days ago, and Kath said that because the purpose of the challenge is simply to save money and not make any sort of social commentary, anything free doesn’t count towards the $126. It’s just about trying to be cost-effective and really, what’s more cost-effective than free samples from your favorite companies?

And it would be a huge pain to try to figure out how much anything not purchased would cost, like meals at friends’ houses and what have you.

Meg, I think Kath has said her oatmeal creations are 400ish. I believe the 610 number refers to Quaker’s suggestion of breakfast cals.

    Abby ,
Yes my dough was too cold. I tried to warm it up with my hands on the stove-top but no go.

    Casey ,
Thanks for your comment!! I don’t know if T-shirts come in every package, but my guess is no. Maybe they are available in the BB store?

    claire ,
I have a video on cutting a pom open. Go to the right sidebar, scroll down to categories, then videos, and it should be in that list.

Amanda in Pittsburgh + Oh She Glows,
You guys are too kind 😳

    seelee live,
    What M said!

    Madison ,
I didn’t notice -but weird!! Maybe just pumpkin pie spice and orange.

    jenner ,
I’m actually not a huge fan of banana products, but I have yet to try the LaraBar. Hope it exceeds expectations!

    Meg ,
M is right about 400-450ish. The 610 was just a tidbit from a study Dave Grotto, RD shared with us at Quaker.

    Kelley ,
I channel surfed AFTER I cleaned the floors

    Kinder ,
    Yup!

    M,
    Thanks for your help!

    sirenjess,
For the days when you just want half – to crumble on oats, or you’re not that hungry or you just want one of each of two flavors!

I agree on the desire for mini sized Larabars!! Sometimes a whole larabar is just more than I need or I’d like to pair my snack with some yogurt or cottage cheese, so don’t want a whole larabar. I also received the JamFrakas bars from Megan’s giveaway. I’ve tried the strawberry and loved it! It really tasted like real strawberries! I thought the size and the addition of crispies was a nice change of pace from the regular larabars and I’m excited to try the rest of them.

    About the mini larabars…

I also am obsessed with laras and especially love the mini sizes. The minis are actually how I got hooked on them! My work (I work in a yoga/athletic clothing store) would get sent these GIANT boxes of all different mini lara flavors, and we would put them out in a big bowl for guests to take. Of course, a bunch also found their way into my bag (and mouth)… I actually emailed the company last year asking if they would ever sell them to the general public, but they said they only make them for promotional purposes. On that note, I went to the Green Festival in Washington DC last weekend, and larabar had a booth where they were giving away minis. I scored about 10, including the mysterious coconut flavor! It was pretty intense.
