My good friend Kipton just had a birthday!
To celebrate, a group of her friends and family gathered at Sweethaus, a fabulous cupcake and candy shop here in Cville, for a cupcake decorating party.

Sweethaus recently moved locations, and this was my first visit to the new space on Main Street. They have tons of rooms for events and parties and are now quite the dessert destination in Cville. Plus their buttercream is the best Iβve had : )
I loved all the colorful dΓ©cor
We sipped on coffee and lemonade while we watched platters blank cupcakes ready for frosting arrive
Oh to be this close to that much frosting!
We were given a quick lesson from Tara, the owner.
Of course her swirl was perfection
And then gave it a whirl ourselves
In addition to various flavors of buttercream, an assortment of sprinkles appeared to decorate the vanilla, chocolate and pistachio cupcakes. They had everything from glitter to chocolate to metallic.
I went traditional β vanilla on vanilla with a rainbow of sprinkles and glittery sparkle
I took mine home to share with Matt, who celebrated the big 3-0 birthday on Monday!
Happy Birthday Kipton!
Those look some amazing treats! Love all the colors and textures!
Belated happy birthday to Matt…..
Sprinkles! I almost want to make that fork frosting shot my background.
What a cool place to visit – totally wish we had something like that around here!
What a fun idea! It’s like a kid’s birthday party for adults! I want to lick the frosting off those cupcakes.
What a fun party idea! Those cupcakes look divine π
Fun idea for a birthday! I might do an at home version with my daughter. I’ve got all the supplies–used to/still sort of do–rep for a bakeware company. And happy birthday to Matt too! What did Mazen do for his daddy’s special day?
I think I might want to move to Charlottesville after school. Everywhere you go is so cute and right up my alley! Any dietetic internship in the area? I might reconsider applying for the on at Columbia in Manhattan.
Yes, University of Virginia!
Okay, that would be my dream birthday party!! Of course I would probably be found shaking in the corner from a sugar high covered with smears of multi-colored frosting and 5 empty piping bags.
Haha!
That looks like such a fun party! Tons of birthdays to celebrate. Happy 30th to Matt.
Hi, I am from Singapore and I have been following your daily post since last year.
Cant really expressed in words how happy I was when I saw this post.
Thanks! I really needed that!
By the way, the colourful lanterns look fab!
What a fun birthday idea! A friend of mine had a sugar cookie decorating station as a part of her wedding, it was so much fun! I think no matter how old we get, we still love decorating baked goods!
Matt and I are birthday twins! I turned 30 on Monday, too! π
Fun! Happy birthday!
What a sweet bakery, too cute!
What fun!!!! I’m all for experiences rather than things so that would be great!!!! …..Happy Birthday to Matt! I hope he had a wonderful day! I’m sure you and Mazen made it perfect!
What a fun birthday party! I love Sweethaus’s mini cupcakes–perfect for satisfying a sweet tooth without going into a sugar coma π
I love it! Upscale cupcake decorating for adults…cool! π I used to have cookie decorating birthday parties for one of my boys around Christmas. They are so much fun! Did you get to have one to eat at the party or just the two to take home?
Yeahhh… I’m going to have to pretend like I didn’t see that.
I want a cupcake tutorial one day – frosting is love.
Yum! You can’t beat a good buttercream! It’s my favorite frosting!
What a fun birthday!! I love it when adults celebrate their birthdays out and about!
I have that sweater in gray. π
This post is REALLY not helping with my new year’s resolution to eat less sweets. Sigh.
Mmmmm! Cupcakes. I LOVE the color of the walls at Sweethaus. So bright and interesting.
FUN idea for a party! Hope Matt had a good birthday!
Cupcakes are probably my favorite dessert. I would love to go to a place where you can frost and decorate your own!! They look so fun and cute.
Kath, what makeup/skin products do you use? Your skin looks amazing! Or are you just blessed with beautiful skin?
Thanks. I use Alba Sea Minerals cleanser and moisturizer and Bare Minerals makeup
I agree! You are just glowing!!
That is SO much fun!!! I had a party once where the girls could decorate their own cupcakes–that was fun too and a big hit. It was actually less work for the host than preparing and frosting all the cupcakes. Win win!
I’ve never heard of a cupcake decorating party. What a cute idea!
YUM! What a great idea for a party!
What a great idea! I’m making homemade funfetti cupcakes for my son’s 4th birthday party. I don’t know if I want to let a pack of toddlers decorate their own cupcakes though, at least not indoors. But for the grown-ups? heck yeah! I would do this as a high end-low end party- make it a wine-tasting, cupcake-decorating mixer with some funky blues playing.
No way! HOw fun is this! I am sooooo jealous! I love decorating cupcakes way too much!
The cupcakes look amazing, but what I really want is that worn, rustic door behind you in the pic. π HBD to Matt!
Can hardly stand it. Icing is my middle name!
Happy 30th to Matt!
What a fun idea for a party!
Hi Kath,
After your Adaptation post I’m a bit surprised to see your first post in your blog evolution to be about a cupcake decorating party. Nothing wrong with cupcakes! I took it to heart when you said you were planning to commit future posts to answering the question about what it means to be healthy, through a series of topic-centered issues/themes.
I look forward to those posts. Less day to day, more quality/bigger picture topics.
Cheers!
E
I think you misunderstood. I certainly HOPE to add more topical posts like this, but the main point of Adaptation was that I just needed to step away from daily life blogging and do more one-topic posts that aren’t always about what I eat. Adventures with my family like this cupcake post are part of that group.
Erin, this response wasn’t meant to sound condescending…. Just a friendly tone of explanation. Best,K
Oh my gosh what a fun party! That little shop is so cute π
Yum, I love cupcakes. Yours turned out cute, nice swirl!
It’s a frosting lovers dream!!! Very cute cupcakes! I’m a fan of classic combos too…though pistachio cupcakes sound good!
Happy Birthday Matt and Kipton. How did Mazen wish his dad? Glad to see you back Kath! It seems as if there was a gap of years! :-))
That last picture is all my style! You had me at Buttercream…
I love everything about this post! And a decorating lesson from the owner, the Sweet Haus overall vibe, the cupcakes of course…oh what a fun time and happy Bday to your friend!
YUM! That frosting looks amazing! Happy 30th to Matt!
That is the perfect way to celebrate a birthday! How lovely π
What a fun idea for a mini party! YUM!
Happy birthday Matt!
I absolutely love those glass canisters! I could see them in our cottage!
looks like a fun party! π buttercream frosting is the best! π
and happy belated bday to your husband! hope ya’ll had fun celebrating together!
I am not a big icing type of person. However, I absolutely love any kind of cream cheese icing! And if the buttercream frosting is not overly sweet, I love it as well.
That looks so fun! I bet a place like that would do well elsewhere too π
That looks like the happiest place in the world! π
Your pictures are just lovely Kath, thanks for sharing! Kipton’s party was so fun, there’s nothing like watching grown adults settle into some good old fashioned nostalgia. Looking forward to when Mazen has teeth and we can watch him eat his first bite of a buttercream cupcake!
I have missed your daily blog so much – as I’m sure we all have!! Surprising how much I looked forward to seeing your post every day so (creature of habit), it was a nice surprise to see the cupcake party! Keep those posts coming as best you can!
What a fun idea for a party! π
Oooh that cupcake looks just YUMMY! I love the frosting on it!
