A Sweethaus Birthday

My good friend Kipton just had a birthday!

Foodblog-2388

To celebrate, a group of her friends and family gathered at Sweethaus, a fabulous cupcake and candy shop here in Cville, for a cupcake decorating party.

Foodblog-2370

Sweethaus recently moved locations, and this was my first visit to the new space on Main Street. They have tons of rooms for events and parties and are now quite the dessert destination in Cville. Plus their buttercream is the best I’ve had : )

Foodblog--48

I loved all the colorful décor

Foodblog-2391

Foodblog-2371

We sipped on coffee and lemonade while we watched platters blank cupcakes ready for frosting arrive

 Foodblog-2377

Foodblog-2375

Oh to be this close to that much frosting!

Foodblog-2376

We were given a quick lesson from Tara, the owner.

Foodblog-2383

Of course her swirl was perfection

Foodblog-2384

And then gave it a whirl ourselves

Foodblog-2386

In addition to various flavors of buttercream, an assortment of sprinkles appeared to decorate the vanilla, chocolate and pistachio cupcakes. They had everything from glitter to chocolate to metallic.

Foodblog-2381

I went traditional – vanilla on vanilla with a rainbow of sprinkles and glittery sparkle

Foodblog-2396

Foodblog-2397-2

I took mine home to share with Matt, who celebrated the big 3-0 birthday on Monday!

Foodblog-2403

Foodblog-2402

Happy Birthday Kipton!

Fun idea for a birthday! I might do an at home version with my daughter. I’ve got all the supplies–used to/still sort of do–rep for a bakeware company. And happy birthday to Matt too! What did Mazen do for his daddy’s special day?

I think I might want to move to Charlottesville after school. Everywhere you go is so cute and right up my alley! Any dietetic internship in the area? I might reconsider applying for the on at Columbia in Manhattan.

What a great idea! I’m making homemade funfetti cupcakes for my son’s 4th birthday party. I don’t know if I want to let a pack of toddlers decorate their own cupcakes though, at least not indoors. But for the grown-ups? heck yeah! I would do this as a high end-low end party- make it a wine-tasting, cupcake-decorating mixer with some funky blues playing.

    Hi Kath,
After your Adaptation post I’m a bit surprised to see your first post in your blog evolution to be about a cupcake decorating party. Nothing wrong with cupcakes! I took it to heart when you said you were planning to commit future posts to answering the question about what it means to be healthy, through a series of topic-centered issues/themes.
I look forward to those posts. Less day to day, more quality/bigger picture topics.
    Cheers!

I think you misunderstood. I certainly HOPE to add more topical posts like this, but the main point of Adaptation was that I just needed to step away from daily life blogging and do more one-topic posts that aren’t always about what I eat. Adventures with my family like this cupcake post are part of that group.
