Big Boy Room Decor!

Did you know when I was young I used to rearrange my room once a week? I’m surprised that I haven’t rearranged all the rooms in our house yet. Mazen asked if we could move his bed and I said YES! I would love to. While we only moved it 90 degrees and switched his desk location, the room feels totally new. He spent a day organizing every nook and cranny.

Here’s what it looked like before…

And here’s the room after!

(His rug is a little small, but I am too thrifty and like it too much to sell it just to buy a slightly bigger one.)

We have plans to hang his homemade bow on the big wall and possibly add some floating shelves too.

All ready for virtual learning!

M has read every Big Nate book!

Tomorrow is the first day of school!

Sadly the big bus won’t be coming ’round the corner. M is still excited to see his friends through Zoom.

Here’s a look back on his school years ages 2 through 7!

And here’s little Birchie all ready for his first day

He started last week. It was a bit of a rough transition for us both, but every new routine takes adjustment.

How have your first days been?

I loved rearranging my room as a kid too. And now I still do as an adult! My husband has kindly learned to deal with unexpected room shifts ?. My daughters coined the term “dec-arranging” and get excited when they can help me move things around!

First day of kindergarten over here is on Monday the 14th! We had a choice between remote or in person – we chose in person. I’m a doctor and my husband is a contractor like Thomas so we both work outside the home – facilitating remote learning would be difficult! In Ontario, Canada where we live almost all kids start full time school in September year they turn 4 – I notice it’s different in the USA! Allies been going to daycare in a center since she was 2.5 though so I think she’ll do well with the transition! I’m most nervous about her riding the bus! Eek!

You’re a great mom! I’m so impressed with how you co-parent Mazen. As the daughter of divorced parents, it makes all the difference. My parents have a better relationship than most married couples!

happy birthday Mazen, he’s just few days older than mine. They do change a lot from year to year.
really like how you point out his characters.

Wow his room looks great! So weird that your 1 year old is in preschool! Where I live it starts at 3 years!!
Have you thought about when you will start to leave Mazen off the blog more? Some of his friends probably have phones. Have you thought about what it would be like if they read BERF?

You guys always get so upset when I use the word school but that’s what it’s called! And he’s almost 2 – rounded up. Most of our preschools start at 2 to 2.5 here.

And if you all of social media Instagram and Facebook, most of Mazen’s friends are online too. I avoid vulnerable subjects or upsetting photos and stick to smiles and happy memories. Most kids have happy memories online.

I have always called it school vs daycare since my child started going to an out of home care situation at 1. They learn constantly and the program was centered around teaching children. Technically I guess he started pre-k when he was 3…but who cares what you call it?? Also, yes…. wouldn’t it be so horrible for a friend to read about Mazen’s early years of life…such a difficult subject 🙂

I usually don’t comment on blog comments but for some reason this one irked me. Have a great day and be kind!
