Another holiday post decked out for Oprah!!!
We hit the road from Hillsborough with some Christmas music blaring!
For Matt‘s sake, I quieted down when I wore myself out
With a little literature and digital entertainment
A little later…lunch
Matt packed me a sandwich…
Leftover herb chicken + cheddar cheese with pickle, cucumber and mustard on whole wheat bread. I gotta say, this bread didn’t have nothin’ on Great Harvest. I am so spoiled.
Also, some pretzels! I LOVE pretzels and never buy them!! They are like air with minimal nutritional value, but they sure do taste good
And even later on…an apple
Look – no hands!!!
We passed by my future spot of intern employment – which seems to be about HALFWAY to my parents’. I think that if I take I-485, which is a loop that actually adds 5 more miles to the distance, I will have a much more pleasant commute going against traffic, in contrast to the shorter route that goes right through the city of Charlotte and would probably be a lot more stressful. I’d rather drive a wee bit longer with no traffic. That perked me up a little. At least I know I can eat at Cracker Barrel to wait out the traffic!
We arrived home at 4PM, unpacked, picked up and left again to squeeze in a few hours at Kate + Nate’s Holiday Movie Marathon! Sadly I missed Home Alone but I made it in time for some ELF hilarity.
It was SO cozy at Kate + Nates!
There were lots ‘O snacks put out for munching –
I had two small mugs of the most delicious hot apple cider. I had a bad headache and needed to hydrate
There were two entertainment areas – Xmas Movies in the living room and Sports in the man cave
Near dinnertime, I had a splash of TJ’s Velvet Moon
And pizza was served!!
These were take and back from Costco and they were DELICOUS
Plus Kate made her special salad
I had a slice of margarita pizza and a heap of salad
Diana made cookies from a Great Harvest mix – they were awesome.
And Caitlin made these famous Resees cup cookies
I had one of each – delish!
Plus a small taste of Prosecco with dessert
At 6:45 we made our way to yet another holiday event – the 5th Annual A Cappella Christmas put on by the Queen Charlotte Chorus of Sweet Adelines International and the Gold Standard Chorus of the Barbershop Harmony Society!
Karen, my mother-in-law, joined the Adelines this fall and just loves it.
I did my best to capture her on zoom – she’s the one with the dark hair and the black shirt with sparkles in a V!
The show was great – I love a cappella!
At intermission there was a cookie buffet!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My usual self would have wanted to try one of each, but tonight I decided to wait out the crowd and then have the top two that looked the best.
I waited for the huge line to die down (normally I’m the FIRST person in a buffet line!) and swiped two tiny ones at the end of intermission.
Off to enjoy a little silent night of reading and beauty rest

Looks like a wonderful day Kath! What a lot of gorgeous treats to choose from and that pizza looks incredible! I wouldn’t have been able to stop at 1 piece
.
Looks like a great day of friends + awesome food. And it looks like you made good choices/ practiced portion control. My issue with the holidays is drinking… I drink a glass of wine before dinner and then all of my inhibitions are lowered! Does that happen to you?
Kat,
All the time. I’m working on my alcohol portion more than anything. One drink per night. Two if it’s a really long one. Not a strict rule or anything (as you see above) but a reasonable goal to shoot for. Alcohol is my #1 weakness when it comes to being healthy and overeating.

You guys always have so much fun together! Looks like a great party.:)
Elf is one of my favorite Christmas movies
That is some tree too! Glad you enjoyed yourself.
I LOVE the margherita take & bake from Costco! Not a fan of the cheese, but loooove that basil
And the BBQ chicken one is super tasty as well.
Mmmmm…we love TJ’s Velvet Moon!
I love that you belt Christmas carols in the car! I do that too! My favorite is “All I Want For Christmas Is You”… If only it would sound as nice as Mariah Carey…
Glad you got your sweets in at the concert–those Mad Hatter ones sure got my taste buds excited early on in the day! Your car ride looked like some serious fun!!
love that matt had ear buds in…
Kath! It’s so cool that you went to a barbershop show! My boyfriend’s dad sings in the Triad Harmony Express out of Winston Salem, NC so I’ve been to many a concert like the one you went to tonight! That’s neat. Do you ever visit the Winston area?
I haven’t been up there in ages. But Karen might like to go see them.
What a delicious day! I really have to go find a Great Harvest—regular sandwich bread seriously has nothing on Great Harvest bread?!
Salad looks delish, and so do all the COOKIES! My oh my. A big part of holiday heaven!
looks like a great fun day! i LOVE those peanut butter cookies with reeses in them!!

I love Elf, but I’ve never seen the movie in its entirety! Also, singing is way more fun in closed quarters!
Lovely recap! Great photos! I love a cappella, too! I bet that was an awesome show!
Glad you were able to make it to the movie marathon for a bit.
All of those cookies are looking so delicious right now. I wish I could be watching Elf or listening to some Caroling…. instead of studying studying studying. Ugh! Painful!
Whoa, is there any way you could post that peanut butter cups cookie recipe? Those look killer!!!!
I think it’s just a choco-chip cookie (store-bought) with a Resees mushed down in it. It’s a pretty popular recipe, so you can probably find it online if you google those.

i was in an a cappella group in college; i miss it. i’ve never been to a cracker barrel – i wonder if i’d like it?
Kath – let’s record a duet, what’s your favourite Christmas song? hahaha . . . I LOVE elf by the way, too funny for words!
Ha – I should record me singing. But I’d be too embarassed!!
Loved Wicked when I read it – hope you’re enjoying it!
Looks like such a great day! LOVE the cookie buffet!
Haha now this is the second blog where I’ve seen those PB cup cookies…I tried to make them the other day and FAILED. I swear they are taunting me! And I hear ya on the pretzels…my boyfriend’s mom just brough me over some and I was stoked because I never have them, but YUM they are so good…and I’m usually a sweets girl over savory.
Cookie buffet?
I admire your restraint! LOL
Great pics!
Jenn
So many cookies and they all look delicious!!
Santa…I know HIM!! Oh Kath, Elf and costco pizza what could be better? I love your blog, it is amazing and so are you!!
Wow, the variety on that cookie buffet is amazing!
Looks like you guys had a fun Saturday night. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Yay for holiday fun!! Good for you for taking advantage of the season– I feel like sometimes I’m so stressed out during this time, I don’t enjoy it…and then, before I know it, it’s passed by again!
Can you read in the car without getting nauseous? Lucky girl!
Bahaha, those pics of you singing are hilarious! I just saw the recipe for those Reese’s cookies for the first time yesterday, and am now fixated on making them. They look SO good! And a cookie buffet, ohmy. “Old me” probably would have just face planted
my great aunt is in that same singin group. she loves it & they really are so talented!
Those first two photos of you are priceless, haha – so fun
What a fun, festive, holiday-filled day! Your eats all look incredibly delicious.

What an absolutely awesome day!
I love a capella groups, too. What a festive way to kick off the Christmas season.
My mom was in Sweet Adeline’s! That’s too funny. They had a concert about three years ago where they opened for Rockapella. They totally sang the Carmen Sandiego theme song!
What a jam-packed day! Looks like a great one!
Haha, love the in-car entertainment!
Glad to hear that your commute won’t be quite as bad as expected too. I’m sure you’ll handle it just fine!

My grandmother was a Sweet Adeline, and my grandfather sang with a barbershop chorus for many years. This post brought back wonderful memories for me. Good to see your family enjoys it as well.
