Banana Hot Dogs + Fries
From the moment I bought these buns I’ve been waiting to make this breakfast – the timing had to be right
Those who like PB+Banana sandwiches should consider hot dog buns – no banana slicing necessary or slippery slices sliding out of the sandwich!
I love these buns! They come frozen (as most Food for Life breads do) and there are some hard spots on some of them from the freezing process, but overall they are delicious, filling, voluminous and super healthy. They are also on the dry side, but I’ve found 15 seconds in the microwave makes them chewy and moist again.
The “ketchup and mustard“ really topped off the sandwich!

- Strawberry Jam
- Almond Butter
- Banana
Mango fries. I’ve found the best way to “deal” with mangoes is to peel them with a veggie peeler and then cut off the fruit in big slices. All the criss-cross dicing methods waste too much flesh on the skin and it’s hard to get strips that way.

I came to visit via Michele’s blog and am so glad I did. This looks and sounds delicious. I am not a banana and PB person, but hubby is and this would be perfect. I would enjoy the banana and bread and also the mango fries.
Off to explore some more of Michele’s links. Thanks for sharing.
Blessings,
Mary
Hi Kath!
Mary is referring to me in the above comment.
I’ve been lurking since I discovered your awesome blog recently and I featured this blog and a little about your weight loss/healthy recipes with my readers this weekend. My blog is writing-related but since it’s the weekend I jumped off topic and talked about FOOD.
I’ve really been enjoying the great recipes I find here and your enthusiasm for life is simply infectious!
Just thought I’d clarify for you so you didn’t have to wonder, “who’s Michele”?
I still haven’t tried this banana hot dog and fries yet, but I look forward to it. I’m a vegetarian so this is a twist on the hot dog/fries combo I had never thought of before!
*smiles*
Michele
Michele ,
Glad you’re finding the blog helpful!
Thanks for filling me in!! I figured I just had a reader named Michele
Kath
this looks perfect for the kid! I just bought some mangoes too! But, what kind of bread is that you are using?
Bean,
Food for Life brand sprouted grain hot dog buns.
Kath
This looked so good I think I gained 5 lbs just reading it
thanks
Goodness gracious — I am starving and that looks so wonderful! : ]
Thanks for sharing!
The Coffee has jesus in it
O__O
Heh. What you really have to try is a banana and nutella sandwich, on brown toast.
Absolutely the best.
Looks really Yummy!
My son would love this!!
-Sara D.
Ps, I see Jesus too!!
Ketchup, mustard, and bananas on defrosted hard bread gross.
Your silly. Its not REAL Ketchup and mustard, its Peanut Butter and Jelly! and she said you microwave up the bread to make it soft… I think it sounds really good
This looks wonderful. I love mango!
And as a side note, my sister is graduating from Winthrop this coming weekend.
Looks goooooood. I’m not big on that kind of stuff but minus the mustard and ketchup…it looks deee-lish. and yeah, i see Jesus in the coffee tooo…hehe
You guys realize that’s not really ketchup and mustard…..right?? It’s almond butter and raspberry jam.
Kath
I don’t think they relize it’s Peanut Butter and jelly, not ketchup and mustard.
It looks delisious to me and I can’t wait to try it. Can you tell me the name of the bread please?
Thank you.
P.S. Nice Blog…
Thanks Mark! It’s an Ezekiel hot dog bun
It would be nice if there was an actual recipe…
Those pictures were totally photoshopped. You can tell. Nice try though.
Btw, thats not Jesus, its Che Guevara
They aren’t photoshopped.
But they look tasty as hell.
thanks!
Holy carp. that looks so yess.
che schifo
looks disgusting, frankly, but probably tastes good.
Whoa! It must taste better than it looks.
one of those “why didn’t I think of that” snacks
love it
photoshopped? to what end? it’s not as though shoving a banana instead of some hog anus in the bun is really otherwordly. crazy commenters.
imo, it looks pretty bad – the mango fries are a nifty touch though!
my 6 yr old will love your bananna hotdog!!!!
can you make a grocery list on what to buy on monday to start to fill my pantry with staples for this diet and then can you include a list for what i need for this weeks meals..please allow me 4 weeks to fill my pantry with food sometimes i procrastinate
i am just kidding but a list of staples would really help peace out
p.s. i see skelator in the beverage
That would be so cute for a birthday party. Great idea!
This has got to be one of the best things that I have seen done with food in a long time! I am always looking for unique snack ideas for my four children (and I love to torture them with the names!). I will definitely try this out! All of my kiddos love bananas and mangos!! What a healthy and SO CREATIVE snack!
Inspired by Marge Simpson? Very clever- mango fries!
That is sick…why add the ketchup?
OMG. will you look a little closer. It is Peanut Butter and jelly…. Not Ketchup and mustard…
do they do a apple cheeseburger also..
This is definitely the most random, but entertaining, thread of comments on this blog… but seriously, Kath, what ARE you doing photoshopping Jesus into your coffee??
; )
BTW, there should def be another theme week soon, I loved all the kidsy-creative breakfasts!
You know, making your own bread is really easy and its way healthier then anything you can get in a store.
Awesome blog, just passed across it yesterday. Love the playful “hot dog” do you know Joost Elffers? “play with your food” is his book of photos of veggies that look suspciously like rabbits and elephants! such fun!
i tried this for breakfast yesterday (without the mango) and it filled me up for hours!! And the peanut butter and jelly tasted great with the banana. Great idea Kath!
I am definitely going to try this, uber creative and looks tasty!
Hi Kath! I just came across your blog today and am so glad I did. You have a lot of great ideas that I am very excited to try. I run an in home daycare and can’t wait to make this recipe for breakfast tomorrow. Thanks so much for sharing. I also read every single comment and have had a good laugh for the day. Thanks again for sharing your thought and ideas.
Thanks for linking to this post on your lunch post today (Jan 22). It was absolutely hilarious to read that some people are SILLY (trying to be polite) enough to think that 1) that is actually ketchup and mustard and 2) your pictures are photoshopped.
I remember this meal quite well and I still think it’s a great idea! I haven’t been able to find the hot dog buns yet – that’s the only thing holding me back
That said, it definitely looks like there is a person in your coffee! I think I prefer the taste of chandelier coffee, though
Hope you have a great day, Kath!!
hahahah god those old comments were really funny. people are so stupid. sorry, but its true.
“EWWW HOW CAN YOU EAT THAT???” lol
coolie! since I don’t like meat (red), this is good alternative to hotdogs
@ Ben- it’s not jesus
@ Buggle- it’s not Che Guevara
@ christine- it’s not skelator, either.
It’s the grim reaper! And it’s totally SHOPPED!
Photo shopped, I’ve seen hundreds of them in my day. I can tell by the pixels!
LMAO. Okay I’m sorry, looks good, really!
What cute idea. Looks delicious too!!
Sorry guys, it’s bleeding gums murphy in the mug
great idea!
This sounds yummy.
I’m seriously cracking up at all of the people who think you really put ketchup and mustard on a banana! LOL.
Why didn’t I know about this when my grandchildren were visiting this summer? Fantastic idea. Give us more!!
This looks delicious! It would be such a fun breakfast to make for kids! Right, now I have your baked banana oatmeal in the oven and I’m super excited to try it! I’m so glad I stumbled on your blog!
