Split Pea and Ham Soup

Cured pork and sweet potato pack this split pea soup with flavor.

  • 2 carrots chopped
  • 2 celery chopped
  • 1 medium sweet potato cubed
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 cured pork side
  • 1 C split peas
  • 5 C water


  • Sautee carrots, celery and sweet potato in some oil for 5-10 minutes until tender.
  • Add garlic and cook for a couple minutes more until brown.
  • Add all other ingredients, bring to boil, and simmer for 45-60 minutes until peas are soft and creamy. Add salt and pepper as desired, as well as any spices.
  • Remove pork side, trim off the fat, and finely chop for garnish.
