Windblown & Squiggled

May 27, 2012

We REALLY lucked out on the weather today!!! What was supposed to be 50% chance of rain turned out to be gorgeous sunny skies! I think I need to stop looking at the forecast so much..

We enjoyed more beach time

2012-05-27 15.23.10

I’m alternating between this book and 50 Shades. You guys were right – 50 Shades is really corny. I’m 75% through my free sample of the first few chapters and am going to give it a bit more before I decide if I’m going to download it or not.

2012-05-27 15.33.27

I had a lot of fun watching the cutest little boy play with his mom on the beach :  ) Can’t imagine what it will be like to have a child at the beach.

2012-05-27 15.51.35

We all headed out tonight – first to the local tiki bar

Which is out on a pier above the beach!

Drinks for all

Smack dab in the middle of mojitos and rum runners was my club soda + lime

Then we headed out to dinner at Havana’s, which is breezy and outdoors

The dinner was good, but we waited 1.5 hours for our food, so there were moments of this:

Crab dip tided us over

Along with a few of these (I was starved!)

And finally some of this:

And then finally our deluxe seafood platter arrived. Karen and I split this combo of fried shrimp and oysters, fries, curried crab cake and slaw. It was tasty, but I couldn’t decide if I was full or hungry!

We ended our night with our final out-on-the-town destination: Squiggly’s Ice Cream

I had a heath bar in a cone – tasty!

It caused the baby to squiggle inside : )

1.5 hours for food is a lot! I would have eaten my family by that point, justtttt kidding!

2 [email protected] May 27, 2012 at 9:30 pm

Those fried shrimp and oysters…how could you NOT be hungry?! Love Larbs’s pensive look. Pretty eyes!

3 The Healthy Hipster May 27, 2012 at 9:34 pm

That dress looks so lovely on you! I feel like Rachel Zoe (queen of baby bump style) couldn’t have picked it a better colour/cut/print. Looks like you’re havin a blast in it too 😉

4 Katie @ Peace Love and Oats May 27, 2012 at 9:41 pm

1.5 hours!? Haha I hope it was good, I would have gotten hangry!

5 Kel May 27, 2012 at 9:42 pm

What does the sticker on your dress say?
You are definitely glowing! That dress is adorabibble. It’s a word darn it!

6 KathEats May 27, 2012 at 9:56 pm

“You got squiggled!”

7 Carrie May 27, 2012 at 9:42 pm

Great dress!

8 Stephanie C May 27, 2012 at 9:45 pm

Had to comment to say that dress is beautiful on you!

9 brandee May 27, 2012 at 9:52 pm

Super cute dress!

10 mary @ minutespermile May 27, 2012 at 10:06 pm

Gah! I know you’ve shown those dresses before, and they are so cute! Where can I get one again?

11 KathEats May 27, 2012 at 10:15 pm

Mahi Gold!

12 Sneakers2Sandals May 27, 2012 at 10:08 pm

I agree w the dress comments! Super cute! I feel like its something I would never buy but now that you are making it look so cute I might have to get me one like that!

13 Elisabeth May 27, 2012 at 11:32 pm

Had to add to the comments on your dress – adorable!!

14 Dominique May 27, 2012 at 11:43 pm

Your photos of seafood make me so jealous because I’m allergic to crustaceans and your photos of shrimp, crab cakes and the previous dinner with shrimp and crab made me really hungry! I only became allergic a few years ago so I still remember what they all taste like–especially crab, as that was one of my faves.

15 Rori May 27, 2012 at 11:46 pm

I also think the dress looks great on you! Random question…Have you and Matt considered whether or not you might invest in a different or larger vehicle now that the baby is on the way?

16 KathEats May 28, 2012 at 6:52 am

We definitely do want something like a Honda Crv but I think we’re going to wait until next year to save up more first

17 Rachel May 28, 2012 at 10:30 am

I have a CRV – it’s the best!

18 Ann May 28, 2012 at 8:18 pm

Me too and I love it!

19 Sydney@ Nutrition with Sydney May 27, 2012 at 11:54 pm

Your dress is adorable!!

20 Averie @ Averie Cooks May 27, 2012 at 11:56 pm

Oh how I wish I was there eating crab dip! Not sure if Bluewater or Oceanic are still around (I’m sure they are) but sitting outside and having a drink and watching the sailboats go by and noshing on crab dip was a favorite Fri nite passtime at Bluewater, circa 2001. Wow, a decade later. Memories :)

Adorable pink dress and you and Larbs look fabulous!

21 Julie May 28, 2012 at 12:16 am

I’m trying to read 50 Shades of Grey as well and it isn’t working!

22 Khushboo Thadani May 28, 2012 at 12:48 am

Wow that’s a ridiculously long wait for food- I hope the comp’ed a few of the dishes?

23 Janine May 28, 2012 at 1:04 am

I hardly ever comment, but I have to say, you look great in that dress! Pregnancy really looks good on you. I’m right behind you with my pregnancy at 18 weeks, but I already have a boy, so I am hoping for a girl this time!

24 Stacy @ Say It With Sprinkles May 28, 2012 at 2:54 am

All these beach posts are killing me! I’m so envious and dreamy about summery, sunny days in the sand!

25 Kavi @ Lab to Fab! May 28, 2012 at 3:55 am

Great dress! The color looks fab on you.

26 Simply Life May 28, 2012 at 5:22 am

so glad to hear the weather has been perfect!

27 Kayla May 28, 2012 at 6:00 am

your dress is so pretty, i love the color and the style! it fits you and the baby perfectly! :)

28 Karen May 28, 2012 at 6:16 am

I second the dress love…the bright prints look so this season and that one has just the right amount of pop. It looks smashing on you and the babe! :)

These beach photos are just speaking so loudly to me, reminding me of how badly I need a vacation by the shore!

29 Roxanne May 28, 2012 at 7:03 am

I guess you alternate between “real” books and e-books? Which do you prefer?

30 KathEats May 28, 2012 at 8:11 am

e-books. While i love a beautiful book cover, I have always complained about holding a book while I read. The e-books are great because you don’t have to hold a heavy book and even better at night when you can lie on your side and not hold it. And I love knowing the percentage I’ve read and easy bookmarks.

31 Quisha May 28, 2012 at 7:12 am

It takes a couple of chapters to get to the goods in Fifty Shades, but I’m not disappointed. So far so good!

32 Margo May 28, 2012 at 7:27 am

I was at Carolina beach yesterday too! And the day before, but yesterday was much better. And I LOVE squiggly’s..the key lime pie one is so so good!

33 KathEats May 28, 2012 at 8:10 am

34 Katie May 28, 2012 at 7:56 am

You look glowing in your pink dress! :) love the bump!

35 Krista May 28, 2012 at 7:57 am

I am from Wilmington! My parents live about 15 minutes from the Ocean Grill and I know the owners! I miss Wilmington. You should try a doughnut from Britt’s near the board walk. They blow Krispy Kreme out of the water!

36 KathEats May 28, 2012 at 8:09 am

The line for Britt’s is always a mile long!! :)

37 Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count May 28, 2012 at 8:23 am

I’ll be interested to hear what you think of Secrets of Eden. I’ve read several of his books. He’s an interesting author. Loved The Double Bind.

38 eliza May 28, 2012 at 8:34 am

Pretty dress, Kath!

Also, congrats to your sister for her recent engagement. I read her blog, too.

One more thing, have you read Double Bind by that same author?? It is one of my favorites.

39 KathEats May 28, 2012 at 8:48 am

I haven’t..

40 Laura May 28, 2012 at 8:40 am

I was just at Carolina Beach Friday-Sunday-I didn’t realize you were there ’til I saw the picture of the Tiki Bar-we went there too! :)

41 Amanda @flecksofgreen May 28, 2012 at 8:43 am

The weather looks gorgeous! And your pink dress is beautiful and perfect for going to a tiki bar :)

42 Kris May 28, 2012 at 8:57 am

I love your Mahi Gold dress. Wonder if they would do another KERF reader discount? I also love Larbs dress. Probably because I own it too :)

43 jeanette May 28, 2012 at 9:01 am

Kath, if you haven’t bought 50 Shades yet don’t, I’ll loan you my reader version. I need to get my $10 worth out of it. I can’t seen to bring myself to read past the 30% I got to. Ugh!

44 KathEats May 28, 2012 at 9:03 am

Thanks but a friend loaned me all 3 of them last night!! I read a little farther…and then got to the leather room part and am not sure I’m going to like this. Mom says to keep reading – maybe it doesn’t pan out like I think

45 jeanette May 28, 2012 at 9:11 am

Oh, that’s good. Did your mom read them? Did she like them?

46 Ginger May 28, 2012 at 9:17 am

SQUIGGLY’S! We love Squiggly’s! Their homemade waffle cones are to die for! Enjoying all your beach pictures and so glad the weather is holding out for you guys. We are looking forward to visiting your bakery toward the end of June (we’ve been chatting with your hubby and getting that worked out). Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

47 factfindersteph May 28, 2012 at 12:41 pm

You look soooooo cute in that pink and white dress! Oh and your sister and her beau make such a great looking couple!

48 Ash Bear May 28, 2012 at 1:15 pm

Where is Larb’s top from or is it a dress?

49 KathEats May 28, 2012 at 1:44 pm

A dress from Loehmann’s

50 Kris May 28, 2012 at 9:21 pm

And I have the same from Ross Dress for Less.

51 Natasha May 28, 2012 at 5:16 pm

What it is like with a child at the each…exhausting!! But yes very fun and I love being like a kid again with my 3, digging in the sand and shell searching etc.

52 Michael Tavallaei DDS May 28, 2012 at 6:57 pm

i’m jealous!! looks relaxing

53 Angel7 May 28, 2012 at 8:07 pm

I always say that on the Weather Channel, online weather forecast, or the news, they should reference three words at the bottom of the screen: Weather Subject To Change! — because the weather forecast is usually not right :) Anyone can go outside and predict what the weather is going to be like :)

The skies are gorgeous there!

54 Lexi @ You, Me, & A World to See May 28, 2012 at 8:59 pm

Moral of the story: ice cream makes everything better 😉

55 Katie May 29, 2012 at 7:53 am

I forget about Chris Bohjalian, The Double Bind and Skeletons at the Feast are excellent books. I have not read that one yet. Lately, a 90% change of rain means that we won’t even get a drop! You are the picture of pregnancy perfection in your pink dress (lots of alliteration there), so beautiful and you look so happy!

56 Stephanie @ Legally Blinde May 29, 2012 at 9:28 am

I love that pink dress on you – so cute! Phew, I can’t believe you had to wait 1.5 hours for dinner; that’s a loooooong time. Loving all of your beach photos and updates. I’m really impressed that you’re keeping up with blogging so well! I don’t think I’d have that much willpower. Actually, I know I wouldn’t :)

57 Diane May 29, 2012 at 12:29 pm

Love the dress! Curious to see how you like 50 shades of grey, I’ve been debating whether to read them.

58 KathEats May 29, 2012 at 12:38 pm

So far….eh. If you like to read about sex, you’ll like it! But it’s reallllly weird…

59 Diane May 29, 2012 at 12:47 pm

If that is the only appealing aspect of the book, no thanks. Also, be careful about reading that stuff while pregnant! The hormones can give you crazy dreams!

60 KathEats May 29, 2012 at 12:59 pm

Haha. So far, that’s all it’s about – with a bit of back story. But I’m not very far in.

61 Natalie May 30, 2012 at 11:43 am

You look super cute in your pink dress!
