The weather forecast all week predicted 40* and a steady rain for today. Sarah and I love to run together and had made plans while back to meet for a 10K this morning.
I emailed her earlier this week with the simple question: "Do we run in rain?"
Her response: "YES!"
So when I packed up my bags yesterday, I packed lots of outerwear. Had I planned a run by myself, I would have definitely stayed high and dry, but Sarah is hardcore and had her last long run of marathon training to do rain or shine, so Matt and I braved the elements with her.
Pre-race run at 7:30AM enjoying a grapefruit and a bananer
We ended up having a fabulous run (don’t you always have great runs when you least expect them!?) We ran 6.2 in 53:10 – probably a new record for me! Sarah’s Polar watch said our pace was 8:35 and my Garmin said 8:40 so take your pick
We hit some killer hills! I raced in the last 1/2 a mile at a sub-8:00 pace and my legs are sure feelin’ it now.
Sarah’s Mitochondria > My Mitochondria
We quickly showered at Sarah’s before heading out to the KERF Brunch
At the Mad Hatter
Matt was the photographer of me, Meg, Lacey, Sarah, Allie, Jessica, Lauren and the boyz!
I decided on a big bowl of fruit, yogurt + granola. Can’t beat it!! The granola was homemade and the whole dish was wonderful. I ate every drop!
I got a huge cappuccino as well
And a bite of Matt‘s savory feast
After brunch we stopped by the Chapel Hill Great Harvest to say hello. This nice bear welcomed us in
Time to hit the road, Jack.

LOL, you HAVE to be extremely dedicated to run in the rain!! I wouldn’t mind getting wet, but I’d worry about slipping.
The granola bowl looks so fresh and yummy. Love the little sausage patties on Matt’s plate.
It’s snowing here, I’ll trade you for the rain.
Jenn
YAY! love to run w/ you too
and matt!! and i think your mitochondria are AWESOME.
Congrats on the awesome run!!! Your post-run fuel looks delicious too
So glad I got to see you again!! I cleaned that parfait bowl down to the last drop too. Until next time!!!
PS Didn’t like the crazy dish-collecting man’s photos, huh? Hahaha he couldn’t handle the magic of the SLR!
Looks like a lovely morning…you guys all look so cute in your running gear.
What a great run. It’s snowing here! I don’t think I’d be up for running outdoors!
Yummy looking breakfast!
That’s dedication right there! I would never be brave enough to run in the rain… That frothy cappuccino looks super good. Especially after a long run. :]
run under the rain? woooo!!! you’re so dedicated!!! such a fun blogger meetup!
There’s something really thrilling about running in the rain – but it definitely helps to be dressed for it
Yum! When I go out for breakfast, it’s savory all the way
Looks like an awesome brunch! You are a brave woman for running in that weather– I talk myself out of bad weather/cold weather runs so easily
Have a great day!
Nice run! Delish looking brunch, too!
Being dressed for the rain is key! Chafing is the worst part about rainy weather, so as long as you can get around that, it can actually be quite enjoyable.
And I think your post-run eats was the perfect choice! Looks so fresh and delicious…yum!
that granola bowl looks great! and good job on the run this morning
jenna
Great group!
Wow. The strawberries and granola look great. Have a nice day.
Ooo la la, look @ that cappuccino!
Wow, you guys were definately faster than me. I ran 6.0 miles this morning in 57:57. Yeah, slow, but it’s the longest I’ve run in a couple years.
It was so great to finally meet you after following your blog for so many months! Wish I could have stayed around to chat longer. And I wish I had gotten one of those delicious looking yogurt & granola
Thanks again for the Candlelight Tour tickets! Hopefully we’ll hit up one of the yummy restaurants in Hillsborough beforehand.
That is so cool…that GH has GF bread and every day…awesome!
Enjoy!
I think brunch is my favorite meal ever
Have a safe trip back!
That is so fun! I really want to do a blogger meetup! Brunch looks delish.
A blogger brunch is such a good idea! How fun! And yummy selection.
Hope you have a great weekend!
Awesome run! And that granola looks so good!
I loved getting to see you and Matt again!! You two are so gracious and fun
PS. Glad we have some Great Harvest goodies to look forward to in the future too.
I am cold just looking at those pictures! Brrr!!
Awesome run! and that brunch looks fabulous!
It’s actually not as bad as it sounds to run in the run! I find that I end up concentrating even more on my running and usually end up feeling empowered by the rain.
Looks like a fun, delicious brunch!
Oh my gosh all that food looks amazing!
And I run in the rain all the time. I definitely get weird looks but it really doesn’t bother me at all! Haha
What a lovely run in the rain
!
You are getting so fast at running Kath! That’s a stellar 10k time!
Looks like a great brunch. Congrats again about Oprah.com!
That brunch looks delicious — how fun!
I considered running in the snow this morning but totally wimped out.
Good job on the run. I can easily find a way to wiggle out of bad weather activities. You always feel so good in the end though.
I love runs like that, unexpected! I had to run in 34* weather yesterday and it ended up being so enjoyable, which I did not expect
How nice you have such an amazing motivator to help you get out there! I seriously need someone to push me, too. My boyfriend and I would have both been like, forget that!
So inspiring, Kath!
I’ve been mad enough to run in the rain before. One of the most refreshing runs of my life.
i love yogurt and granola at restaurants. why does it taste so much better than when i make it at home?!
Hi Kath,
I just discovered your blog a few days ago and am reading from the beginning on! I’m somewhere in September 2007 now.
I changed my eating habits about 7 months ago but am still learning so much. I’m getting some great ideas from your blog! Love it all, and you look wonderful.
Cheers!
Welcome Nicole!
You’re a speedy lil’ runner : ) I love running in the rain!
I can’t seem to figure out how to actually get to your posts from the Oprah site!! I just keep ending up at “Meet Kath Eats Real Food.”
How can we actually read your posts on that site?!
Thanks
Stephanie,
They’ll be up on Monday. I sent them over but it’s the weekend
And I dont’ think the actual posts will be up – just links (which is still fun because it means people will come over to KERF for a visit)
Kath
Thank you! I’ve been an avid reader for a year or so now, and I always want more KERF
Wow! Congrats on running in the rain! I am always so terrified of slipping! Way to go!
Aw, super bummed that I missed out on the Mad Hatter’s meet-up! Hope you all had a good time though:)
