Welcome Home

February 28, 2010

Matt made it safely to Napa. He is feeling better and wanted me to show you all his veggie sandwich that he managed to eat when he arrived. I’ll be featuring some more of his trip throughout the week :)

I set out on my adventure this afternoon and did bad, bad things. Like spend $100 on new workout clothes at Target. I went in for one thing and came out with 2 cute pairs of fitted workout pants (one cropped, one long – if you’re petite these rock!) and two new yoga tops (mine were all a bit to cleavage-y!). In my defense, I really did NEED these!

IMG_6989 (640x427) IMG_6992 (640x427) IMG_6990 (640x427)

I also went to Fresh Market and found SPRING BLEND! I got a Caf and a Decaf.

IMG_6994 (640x427)

Yesterday when I was kicked out of the house I piled my things into this new tote I was sent: EnviTote. It’s a reusable box! With a very convenient shoulder strap. And it’s washable. When you don’t want things (like bread) to get smooshed, sometimes a reusable bag just won’t cut it. This guy was SO convenient!! I added it to my Open Sky store immediately!

IMG_6863 (640x427)

Just when I was heading back home I got a message from Kelsey asking me to meet her for a drink. Good timing!!

I was just going to order water….until I looked at the wine list and remembered that my husband was in wine country without me. So I got a 2 oz "taste" portion of a delightful moscato!

And was starving so I broke into a purse-stash of pistachios!

Still starving when I got home (10 miler eh?) so I snacked on a few more almonds as I packed my lunch and prepped dinner.

IMG_7013 (640x427)

Karen is back from New Zealand! She came over to join me for dinner and will be spending a few nights (keeping me safe!) while Matt’s gone.

I made us a nice American dinner of omelets with Organic Valley cheese, North Carolina kale and Montana wheat Great Harvest bread.

IMG_7025 (640x427)

More Eggland’s Best from the Foodbuzz Tastemaker program!

IMG_7018 (427x640)

Seriously, this Organic Valley cheese has so much flavor.

IMG_7017 (427x640)

Chef’s mocktail

IMG_7020 (640x427)

Sometimes butter is just necessary.

IMG_7021 (640x427)

IMG_7026 (640x427)

IMG_7029 (640x427)

Our omelets had shrooms, pimentos and shredded mild cheddar + pepperjack cheese

IMG_7033 (640x427)

Kale was lightly dressed in a drizzle of olive oil and lemon juice

IMG_7036 (640x427)

Toast was toast in 5 minutes flat

IMG_7034 (640x427)

IMG_7028 (640x427)

IMG_7027 (640x427)

Karen brought me back some beautiful  gloves made from possum and sheep’s wool. Love that they say "Lothlorian" like LOTR and are a nice Elven green!

Ever pooped during a run??

Going to snuggle in my bed with fresh sheets and a new Nicolas Sparks book! (The Last Song).

Nite nite.

I love pistachios as a snack! They’re so good!

3 christina cadden February 28, 2010 at 8:42 pm

I love pistachios as well! I need to eat more of them!

4 Tracey February 28, 2010 at 8:45 pm

Your Envi-Tote made me Envi-ous. It’s exactly what I need for everything I haul to work everyday! Thank you for posting about it. :)

5 Meghan @ Spreading the Health February 28, 2010 at 8:47 pm

New workout clothes are *always* necessary. 😉 Plus, they make you even more excited about exercising!

6 Karla February 28, 2010 at 8:47 pm

Yay for new workout clothes! My pants literally have holes in them! I need to invest in new ones!
Enjoy your book! I’m a sucker for a good Nicholas Sparks book!

7 Nicole, RD February 28, 2010 at 8:49 pm

That link is too funny/gross :-)

11 Heather (Heather's Dish) February 28, 2010 at 8:54 pm

12 Lisa @bakebikeblog February 28, 2010 at 8:58 pm

ooooh great looking dinner!

13 Brittany February 28, 2010 at 8:58 pm

I can’t wait for breakfast tomorrow, so I can copy your eggs! 😉

14 Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope February 28, 2010 at 8:59 pm

Haha, the things we do when the men are gone. 😉 Love the simple dinner!

15 Ella February 28, 2010 at 9:01 pm

omg thank you for linking to that blog post about poop and running – it was hilarious and, frankly, so important!! every athlete deals with this issue and people do not talk about it enough. it’s like they say: everybody poops!

16 Stacey@http://stacey-healthylife.blogspot.com/ February 28, 2010 at 9:02 pm

I love a good omelet for dinner. Sometimes you just need a breakfast dinner.

17 Kath February 28, 2010 at 9:31 pm

Funny because omelets are always dinner for me! I don’t really like eggs for breakfast :)

18 Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] February 28, 2010 at 9:40 pm

Dito. I can’t do savory in the a.m.

19 Stacey@http://stacey-healthylife.blogspot.com/ February 28, 2010 at 9:03 pm

I wanna get one of those totes also, I think that would work really well.

20 Jessie February 28, 2010 at 9:04 pm

Cute clothes! :) I’m glad Matt is feeling better. Travel + sick = bad all around.

21 Katherine February 28, 2010 at 9:05 pm

I love eggs for dinner! Now I want a second dinner…

Great new workout clothes – jealous, we don’t have a Target here. Enjoy!

22 Trishelle February 28, 2010 at 9:05 pm

Love the new workout tops and bottoms!! You’re right – sometimes you just need to restock the exercise clothes! 😉

Have fun the next few nights as girls’ nights. Those are the best when hubbies are out of town!

23 Holly S. February 28, 2010 at 9:11 pm

I totally just “loled” at the end of your post–so random to see “ever pooped during a run?” at the bottom!

The workout gear looks super cute–I’m going to check out the cropped pants because most end up being too long on me! Do they hit right below the knee or midcalf?

24 Kath February 28, 2010 at 9:32 pm

I got one of each!

25 Jessica @ The Process of Healing February 28, 2010 at 9:17 pm

The Last Song is SO good! I can’t usually get into his books (so sue me) but that one.. loved it.
Your dinner sounds yummy!! Simple is sometimes awesome.
Target workout clothes are THE bomb.

26 Emilie February 28, 2010 at 9:22 pm

I laughed out loud at your abrupt transition from gloves to poop. Love all your new target stuff; i don’t think I’ve ever walked out of target without something I didn’t know I needed.

27 Lisa February 28, 2010 at 9:30 pm

… possum-fur gloves? Eeeek! I can’t stand possums – I had no idea someone would actually shear them for their hair … you can’t even call it fur! Are they comfortable?

28 Jill February 28, 2010 at 9:35 pm

I find it very easy to drop $$ at target. Since I’m new to the US it was a brand new shopping experience. They have everything, love it.

29 Wendy February 28, 2010 at 9:37 pm

Those pants also rock if you’re TALL. I own 3 pairs! I just wish they made tops in talls, too. Hello, long arms and torso.

And the last question? YES. I have multiple stories, but will spare you the details. :)

30 Megan February 28, 2010 at 9:38 pm

I love the new workout clothes. I do agree with the last person to comment… it’s way way way too easy to drop a lot of money at target. Their stuff is just so cute!

31 Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] February 28, 2010 at 9:39 pm

If I was rich, I think I’d spend all my money on exercise clothes…well, maybe not all, but A LOT! I live in them, so they’ve gotta be cute ; )

32 rustique February 28, 2010 at 9:44 pm

No lies, omelettes are perhaps my favorite dinner. Eggs are just the greatest any day and any way.

33 Ida February 28, 2010 at 9:46 pm

glad Matt’s feeling better. it will be fun to see his eats in Napa.

eggs for dinner are perfection.

34 Jessica February 28, 2010 at 10:04 pm

I am just starting The Last Song. Love Nicholas Sparks! Cute workout gear. I love Target.

35 BroccoliHut February 28, 2010 at 10:10 pm

Such a cute picture with the broken eggshells–love it!

36 Jenn (www. j3nn.net ) February 28, 2010 at 10:19 pm

When the cat’s away, the mouse will SHOP! 😉 You definitely earn though exercise clothes with all of your activity.

Omelet looks great, real buttah rocks my socks!

37 Allie (Live Laugh Eat) February 28, 2010 at 10:24 pm

Ahhhhhh I NEEEEEED those 2 spring blends!!! Hand ’em over!! I am running low on my Spring Blend (from JULY!!). I’ve been savoring every last drop. I’ll have to make my way over the Fresh Market–so pumped.

Okay, you workout almost every day. You deserve to spend $$ on workout clothes. You will make use of it that’s for sure.

38 Julie February 28, 2010 at 10:29 pm

i love target workout clothes!

39 Monica (Musings of The Granola Girl) February 28, 2010 at 10:30 pm

Getting new workout clothes is always fun :)

Looks like you had a good Sunday!

40 Lauren February 28, 2010 at 10:44 pm

I was in Target just yesterday and it was QUITE the struggle to not buy new workout clothes. They have the best selection ever!

41 Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) February 28, 2010 at 10:51 pm

I’m in love with my Target workout clothes. I realized that all the running gear I brought to Australia is from Target but no shame… it’s comfy and functional!

42 Jayce February 28, 2010 at 11:43 pm

I have those same Target crops and love them!! I have 2 pairs and pretty much wear them for every workout! :)

43 Kelly @ Local Foodie Fight March 1, 2010 at 12:04 am

Omg, so cute that he sent you the picture of his sandwich to post. why can’t I find a man that adorable!??? Haha omelette looks delish. I love omelettesfor dins.

44 Diana March 1, 2010 at 12:07 am

I love that turquoise work out top you got. And YAY for Spring Blend being back! I must get to a Fresh Market…STAT!

Have a great week! :)

45 Mama Pea March 1, 2010 at 12:16 am

Ladies night! You party it up right with that Nicolas Sparks action. I wonder if you blog that, for Matt’s sake, and then head out and it the town, a bag of almonds, glass of moscato and a stick of butter in tow!

Someone’s sleep deprived, sorry.

46 Kath March 1, 2010 at 5:35 am
47 Mama Pea March 1, 2010 at 12:17 am

*hit* the town. Proofread much?

48 Heather @ Get Healthy With Heather March 1, 2010 at 12:42 am

I love his books but I haven’t read one in a long time now. Glad you got to indulge in new workout clothes. Shopping is like therapy :)

49 lynn (The Actors Diet) March 1, 2010 at 1:43 am

sometimes i forget i can eat eggs and toast for dinner.

50 Penny (Blonde Bibliophile) March 1, 2010 at 2:02 am

I LOVE the tote!!!

51 Freya @ Brit Chick Runs March 1, 2010 at 2:10 am

I’m not ashamed to say I’ve pooped during a run! I think it’s a sign of a true runner 😀
Cute dinner :)

52 Hannah March 1, 2010 at 4:40 am

Butter is usually necessary with mushrooms! Enjoy your girly time with Karen :)

53 The Paris Food Blague March 1, 2010 at 4:53 am

haha yes “sometimes butter is just necessary” is going to become my new motto. you should really make that a bumper sticker.

a bientot
the paris food blague

54 andi March 1, 2010 at 6:05 am

i’m always wayyyy hungrier the day after a long run (9+ miles) than the day i finished it. and i can literally never go to target and come away with just what i went for. their workout clothes are pretty great. :)

55 christie @ honoring health March 1, 2010 at 6:32 am

Cute work out gear!

We had omelets for dinner last night, too. I much prefer eggs for dinner than for breakfast!

56 Teri [a foodie stays fit] March 1, 2010 at 6:43 am

That tote is awesome!

I need some cropped workout pants…looks like I’ll be hitting up Target soon! :)

I’m headed to Charlotte with some friends for the AFI concert in a couple weeks. Any restaurant suggestions? [Something not too expensive]

57 Kath March 1, 2010 at 9:17 am

Real Food Charlotte. Crisp. Big Daddy’s. EarthFare salad bar!

58 Heather March 1, 2010 at 7:23 am

Oh I just purchased the Last Song too! I plan on holding onto it for two weeks to read during a cruise! :)
I love new workout clothes, it’s exciting! Have a great day!

59 Haleigh March 1, 2010 at 7:52 am

I have the exact same workout pants from Target! How funny! :)

I adore how satisfying and simple an omelette dinner can be.

60 Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) March 1, 2010 at 8:01 am

Long runs leave me *starving.*

Your workout clothes are adorable *and* a necessity! 😀

61 retrokali March 1, 2010 at 8:13 am

HAHAHA! That post on pooping was hilarous. I am not a runner ( I am a bellydancer), but that feeling of having to go when you can’t is horrible. funny funny funny.

and nuthin’ wrong with a little retail therapy, especially since your hubby is out of town having fun…you should have some fun, too!

62 Jonna March 1, 2010 at 8:20 am

Hi Kath,
Just finished The Last Song! Read it in 2 days. It’s another great
Nicholas Sparks book.

Have a good one!

63 Bonnie March 1, 2010 at 8:21 am

Pistachios and moscato yum!

I love Target’s workout clothes. Why doesn’t walmart sell anything even close?

64 JENNA March 1, 2010 at 8:41 am

fun! buying new work out clothes is the best. I bought some cropped pants from target that were realatively cheap and they held up so well. That is until my daughter decided it was a good idea to put stickers in the washing machine and the melted on to my pants! :-/ I’ve been meaning to go get some more!

65 Amanda@lessonsinmoderation March 1, 2010 at 8:43 am

Good tip on the workout pants for shorties! I have been looking for some. What material are they? I really prefer the moisture wicking fabric like the Nike Dri-fit pants, because a regularly cotton/poly blend shows all the sweat but I only have them in capris and my ankles get cold in the winter !!! :)

66 Kath March 1, 2010 at 9:16 am

They are cotton :(

67 Michelle March 1, 2010 at 8:44 am

I just finished the Last Song and loved it! I think it is one of my all time favorite books now and can’t wait to see the movie. Although I’m not sure how much I’ll like it since I don’t care for Miley Cyrus.

68 Heather March 1, 2010 at 8:45 am

love target pants! I actually recently did a review of them on my blog! I ahve the opposite problem, I am really tall and the regulars are too short!

69 Heather @ Side of Sneakers March 1, 2010 at 9:23 am

You wouldn’t believe how many times I go into Target for something innocent and come out with workout clothes–they just fit so well and don’t cost an arm and a leg!! I JUST said the other day, I sure wish Spring Blend would come out already…YAY!! To Fresh Market I go…

70 Jenn @ Livewellfit March 1, 2010 at 10:01 am

Target = the $100 store. I never walk out of there spending less, even if I try so so so hard! :)

71 Joanne March 1, 2010 at 10:59 am

Love the gloves. Just your style. :)

72 Bethany March 1, 2010 at 12:00 pm

Love the new workout togs! Target is a great option for workout clothes (are those the Champion line?) — think about how much you could have spent elsewhere…so really, you SAVED yourself money, right? :) That’s how I justify it.

73 Kristilyn (My 29th Year) March 1, 2010 at 12:01 pm

I’m so bad at spending too much when I only go out for a few things. Those tops are lovely though – a necessity indeed!

Thanks for that poop article … LOL! It is something that runners have to think about! I run on my treadmill at home, so it’s not a huge issue, but now that the weather is getting nicer, I know I’ll be outside for double digit runs in no time. It’s already something I’m thinking about!

74 kate March 1, 2010 at 3:34 pm

i just bought some new workout clothes on saturday, too. cute new clothes are always a motivation!

75 Casey March 1, 2010 at 4:45 pm

I love Target’s workout clothes!!! I’m doing WW right now, and they totally talk about the pooping/running thing on the message boards! Will def repost!!

76 jac March 2, 2010 at 4:52 am

its so not wrong to splas on workout clothes!!!
