Just Another Day In [Food] Paradise

Howdy!

My this day is flying by. So is this WEEK! I thought it was Monday morning earlier!! Woo hoo Wednesday!

Here’s my set-up at the health fair, which was at a campus of the community college here in Charlotte. We didn’t have a ton of people come by, but the few that did were fun to chat with. Did I mention I like talking to people!?!? I hope I got through to one girl who was feeling very lost about healthy eating. I gave her the “eat real food” speech and lots of tips to fit with her lifestyle and based on the veggies she said she liked. Hope she’s successful!

Ever wondered what 5 pounds of fat look like!? Yummy!

Back at my desk now munching on this great fresh lunch.

The usual – an easy-peasy salad. I like to have a fruit, a veg and either a yogurt or a sandwich in my lunches :)

This guy is roasted vegetables on the bottom, romaine on top. And just a drizzle of olive oil.

See all the good stuff!! All the goods are on the bottom of my bowls today!

IMG_7135 (640x427)

A new flavor of Stonyfield I picked up at EarthFare! Maple Vanilla.

IMG_7139 (640x427)

Plus a side of hemp plus

IMG_7137 (640x427)

And some JAZZ

Ok, I may never eat again after seeing that 5 lbs of fat – ugh! Your set-up looks really great and I hope you helped that girl out too. Sounds like you had excellent advice to offer.

That flavor of yogurt sounds fabulous!!!!

And I have to say, you have really influenced my eating. Your blog was the first I started to read (after finding it through a comment you left on Eat Like Me) and you really inspired me. I was probably like that girl you tried to help at that time, eating foods that were “low cal” or “low fat” and super processed. You showed me how to eat balanced meals, whole foods, and about moderation. So thank you :)

Aww thank you so much!

Yay! We are halfway through the week :D I hate it when all the good stuff goes to the bottom of my bowl…

I love meeting new people too! We have a health fair at our college in 3 weeks and I get to run the Dietetics booth :) :) So excited about it!

I must find that Maple Vanilla flavor immediately! Do you like it? Yum. Also, I hope you got through to that girl, too. It must be really gratifying to help people in that way.

Just OK. A bit bland.

What are your thoughts on the amount of sugar that Stonyfield yogurts seem to have in all of their flavors? I have found that they are one of the highest in sugar for even the plain flavor. I always shy away from their flavors becuase of the sugar content. 24g seems like such a large number to me for such a small yogurt.

Reply

15 Kath March 3, 2010 at 1:17 pm

Yes, 24 grams is a lot. That’s why I mostly eat plain yogurt. But if I’m going to eat sweetened, Stonyfield is my choice because at least it’s all natural.

16 judy March 3, 2010 at 8:12 pm

my favorite yogurt is wallaby now. have you tried it? not as sweet and very creamy. after eating wallaby yog i can hardly eat any other.

Wow that fat is really quite scary!!! Almost frightening!! You must have a super fun job because you are doing what you are passionate about! Very neat! Do you roast fresh veggies all the time or have you ever tried using frozen??

Reply

20 Kath March 3, 2010 at 1:17 pm

I have used frozen some. Last night’s corn was frozen! But I find that the texture is just mush and they taste like freezer burn to me a lot of the time, so I use fresh whenever I can.

Hi Kath. I know exactly what that 5 pounds of fat looks like. 5 pounds may not seem like much, but when you hold that big piece of blob- you should really give yourself a pat on the back for losing the weight!

Kath,
I am loving your website–starting visiting back in January! I have been much more aware of what I eat b/c of your posts. I love seeing your delicious, yet simple take on food. Your blog has helped me to rethink my breakfasts and lunch! I am now trying hard to “eat of the Earth” more times than not! And….a huge plus…eating so healthy has helped me to drop some of my much needed to lose baby weight! I eat oatmeal just about every morning now—and I love the variations you share….I “copy” or try a variation of them often! THANKS!!!
