Up On The Housetop

Kit-ty paws!

I think we have a prowler!

I used to pride myself for being on time, but I am running SO late, as usual! It’s this blogging thing. And that exercise thing.

I set my alarm for 6:26 this morning.

After 20 minutes of snoozing. 20 minutes of emailing. And 20 minutes debating if sore abs were a good reason not to run, I finally got out of bed.

I do not like rising before the sun! And then there’s that little problem called freezing weather.

But Matt and I finally decided to just do a quick 3-4 miles. We used ye ole motivator: “I’ll just do 20 minutes” and ended up having a pretty great run! Lots of hills, lots of snow dodging.

And now I’m enjoying some overnight oats!

Overnight oats in a jar are the BEST!!

The Mix

  • Near-empty jar of sunflower butter
  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1/3 cup Oikos plain
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • Pinch salt
  • Half banana
  • Sprinkle cinnamon
  • Rosie’s Best granola in the AM

Gotta get my joe!

ONE NIGHT. I packed as lightly as I could!! My LiveWell Core bag is stuffed and my carry-into-the-car bag is full of laptop, camera, snacks, lunch, purse, coats, gloves. I’m worse than a new mom!

Can’t wait to see my grandmother!! Wish me luck on the 3-hour solo journey…I’m nervous.

Those paw prints are so cool! I love those pictures!

2 Andrea December 19, 2010 at 9:25 am

Have a great trip!

3 Christine December 19, 2010 at 9:26 am

I am just as bad packing for one night — ESPECIALLY if I am taking my car. Taking my car seems to give me permission to pack more than I can carry. After all, I can just throw it in the back seat!

I am loving all the new mugs!

4 Kris December 19, 2010 at 9:27 am

Travel safe and have a great visit!

5 Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey December 19, 2010 at 9:27 am

Have a good trip!!

6 Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine December 19, 2010 at 9:34 am

Awww! We always have paw prints in our snow. It’s adorable. What’s even cuter is seeing our calico cat when there’s a solid amount of snow on the ground…only her black and orange patches stick out! Safe travels to your grandmother’s!

7 aubrey (italktofood) December 19, 2010 at 9:35 am

hope you have good sing-a-long music! Now is your oppurtunity to belt out all the songs you know the lyrics to!

8 Anne P December 19, 2010 at 9:38 am

Awww love the paw prints.

Don’t forget to wave hello as you drive by DC :)

9 faith @ gracefulfitness December 19, 2010 at 9:41 am

Have a great trip! Safe driving!

11 Laura (On the Threshold of Greatness) December 19, 2010 at 9:44 am

“I’m worse than a new mom!” Best traveling quote ever! 😀 I know how you feel.

Have fun with your grandmother! Rock out to some fun music like Aubrey said above and the drive will be over before you know it.

12 ilana December 19, 2010 at 9:50 am

Have a safe trip. What a nice thing to visit your grandmother. Have fun!

13 Katy (The Singing Runner) December 19, 2010 at 9:52 am

Haha you are like me! I can’t “travel light.” As a woman, I need options right? 😉

14 Stacy @ Every Little Thing December 19, 2010 at 9:55 am

But if you wake up before sunrise, you can actually SEE the sun rise, and it’s always spectacular!

Have a safe trip!

15 Meg December 19, 2010 at 9:55 am

Have a safe trip :)

Kitty prints – SO cute!

16 Samantha December 19, 2010 at 9:59 am

Ha, just wait until you actually are a new mother…it’ll be more that 2x that.
Have fun, be safe! XO

17 Wendy December 19, 2010 at 3:36 pm

Agreed! At LEAST 2X as much…even if you are nursing and don’t have to pack bottles!

18 Heather (Heather's Dish) December 19, 2010 at 10:01 am

hope you have a safe trip! 3 hours is nothing…you got this :)

19 Sarah @ See Sarah Graduate December 19, 2010 at 10:20 am

Have a safe trip! :)

20 Mimi December 19, 2010 at 10:21 am

6:26? So random! Although I can’t judge because I always set the microwave cooking times for something at ends in “4.”

21 A Teenage Gourmet (Sami) December 19, 2010 at 10:24 am

Cute kitty paws! I have that same Longchamp bag, love it.

22 grocery goddess jen December 19, 2010 at 10:31 am

Oh, how you make me want overnight oats :)

23 Thealogian December 19, 2010 at 10:35 am

I 100% understand why so many “real runners” hate treadmills, but I gotta say, if I didn’t have access to one, winter exercise for me would consist of rolling out the dough for Christmas cookies :) Maybe I should invest in one of those scary ski-masks robbers always use in the movies?!? Nah, the treadmill is fine for now…

Good luck on your trip!

24 Christin@purplebirdblog December 19, 2010 at 10:35 am

I concur about the OOIAJ… the best! Have a safe drive!!

25 Amy at TheSceneFromMe December 19, 2010 at 10:43 am

Awe, gotta love Grandma’s! Mine is still so funny, hasn’t lost her sense of humor eventhough she’s in a nursing home.
Have a safe and fun trip!

26 Krystina December 19, 2010 at 10:46 am

Sunbutter overnight oats make me so sad. I always miss that nut butter the most.

27 Heather December 19, 2010 at 10:59 am

What an amazing packer – I am an overpacker through and through. Especially when driving!

Safe travels – at least the ride isn’t too long!

28 Christie @ Honoring Health December 19, 2010 at 11:05 am

Travel safe, Kath! Enjoy your visit!

29 Averie (LoveVeggiesandYoga) December 19, 2010 at 11:08 am

Tj’s Sunflower seed butter is my fave nut butter in the entire world. Even more so than really expensive ones…I dig it!

Packing more than a new mom? That’s impossible :)
Running late? Couldnt be worse than a new mom’s lateness :)

I wouldnt consider myself a “new” mom, mine is almost 4 yrs old, but I still overpack and I run later now than ever….whoops!

30 stacey-healthylife December 19, 2010 at 11:48 am

You have a little kittie that seems to like your house. Maybe you need a pet.

31 Marina December 19, 2010 at 12:02 pm

aw cute paw prints!
Have a safe trip!

32 Amanda December 19, 2010 at 12:25 pm

You should get a TRX! I love having it around the house on days when I am in a hurry but want to get a quick good workout in without having to pull out a million dumbells or having to try to squeeze the gym in in a hurry!

33 Vanessa December 19, 2010 at 12:28 pm

You’ll do great! I think as women, it’s a given that we overpack, and there’s nothing wrong with that :-) Have a safe trip!

34 Kiran December 19, 2010 at 12:45 pm

Have a safe and wonderful journey. Send my “Hi” to grandma and Happy Holidays!

35 Lauren December 19, 2010 at 1:09 pm

I love that 20 min rule! It usually works for me too.

Safe travels today Kath!

Have a safe trip!

42 Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table December 19, 2010 at 3:36 pm

Oats in a jar are like Christmas! I just prepped the ultimate OIAJ – they are in a NUTELLA jar. I’m so excited to eat them that they may end up as dessert tonight. :)

43 Wendy December 19, 2010 at 3:38 pm

I hate packing for just one night – in fact, when we go visit my inlaws 2.5 hours away, I prefer to drive there and back the same day rather than pack to stay overnight!

Safe travels to you!

44 Meagan December 19, 2010 at 3:39 pm

You can do it KATH, drive safe!

45 erica December 19, 2010 at 3:59 pm

46 Lisa (bakebikeblog) December 19, 2010 at 4:00 pm

Safe travels!!!

47 Amalfi Girl December 19, 2010 at 4:04 pm

Good for you for getting out for your run even when you weren’t in the mood! That’s funny that your “trick” is to say you’ll ONLY do 20 minutes… That’s a full workout where I come from. :) My trick is to say to myself, I’m too tired to remember any of this anyway, so I might as well run!

48 Ashley@TheHungryScholar December 19, 2010 at 4:40 pm

Have a great trip. Those paws on the roof are hilarious!

49 Dee December 19, 2010 at 5:02 pm

Have fun on your one day getaway! :)

50 J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) December 19, 2010 at 5:48 pm

Love, love, love the kitty tracks! 😆

51 Hannah December 19, 2010 at 10:04 pm

Gosh, for some reason those paw prints remind me of the scary panther in the Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls! I think a kitty is a nicer animal to imagine…

52 Valerie Waters December 20, 2010 at 1:02 pm

Here Kitty Kitty Kitty!

You need a pair of Valslides for when it’s too cold to go outside. You could do your whole workout in your living room. Strength and cardio. It’s fun too! Plus, they fit in your Core Bag!

Safe travels!
