Good morning!~
Let me tell you, it feels SO good to wake up after a night of hard work and have the pressure off. That is my goal in life – to take the pressure off by doing things either in advance or when I don’t expect to do them to make my future self happy
Couldn’t wait for more Nuttzo oats on this cozy day.
- 1/3 cup oats, milk, water, pinch salt
- 1/2 banana
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- Vanilla + cinnamon + 1/3 cup Daisy cottage cheese stirred in at end
- Tsp duo of nut butters: Nuttzo + Costco
- Tsp Fortnum and Mason raspberry jam
GROG was good!!
I’m off to finish my very last 2 test question chapters and then to the Y to meet Victoria for my new favorite workout: Sculpt!
Oh yeah, and I have to PACK FOR MONTANA!!! I cannot believe I am traveling yet again and this time to a place where I have never been! We are going to Dillon, Montana to the Great Harvest headquarters this weekend for our final day of interview + discovery on Monday. This is the final step to find out if we are approved for a franchise in Charlottesville, VA!
Here’s our itinerary:
- Friday: Fly to Bozeman, rent a car, explore a little (Matt scouted out the beer spots months ago), dinner with a college friend
- Saturday: Drive 2 hours to Yellowstone!! Explore. Hike?? Drive many more hours through the park. The place is apparently pretty desolate this time of year, so I’m hoping we find bathrooms, gas and food. Everything is unknown! We’ll spend the night in West Yellowstone.
- Sunday: Drive about 4 hours to Dillon where GH is. Find food. Spend the night.
- Monday: Great Harvest Discovery Day! 8-5PM. Drive back to Bozeman ~2 hours that night. Find food.
- Tuesday: Early AM flight at 8:30.
LOTS of driving (at least it’s supposed to be some of the most scenic driving in the country!)
Lots of exploring.
Lots of unknown.
Can you tell I’m nervous?!! At least the weather is looking on the warm side!
Adding packing to my to-do list today…

I wish I were better at taking the pressure off my future self. I tend to indulge my present self instead.
Have fun in Montana! It’s absolutely beautiful there.
hopefully your greatharvest interview goes well! You’re increasing my cravings for Nuttzo!! lol!
Have fun on your trip! I did a field work in Yellowstone for 2 summers during my MS & we stayed in West Yellowstone. I remember Wolfpack Brewery??? Anyway, it’s a small town but if things are still open you should find everything you need. Enjoy Yellowstone, it’s beautiful! I need to take the husband…
Good luck on the trip!
Great Harvest trip sounds so fun! We don’t have any around us in Pittsburgh.
Wow – I am so jealous that you’re going to Yellowstone! That place is definitely on my wish list. Have so much fun on your trip! Can’t wait to see the pictures!

Adventures in Tri-ing
Enjoy yellowstone and be sure to dress warm! It will probably be chilly this time of year!
I got to bike through Yellowstone when I was in college, and it was just amazingly beautiful. Have a great time!
Good luck and have a great time!! It is going to be a beautiful drive.
Say hello to Old Faithful.
Are you going to see Molly? She’s the only one I can think of in Bozeman . . .
Have fun!
-Snake
p.s. Henny is flying in tonight to stay with me for the weekend, wheeeeeee!!
Yum, I love nut butter + jam oatmeal
Good luck with all the traveling and everything. I can’t wait to see all the pictures, I’m sure it is beautiful out there!
When you add the chia seeds to your oats, do you add them in afterwards? And then do they have time to soak and gel up?
Good luck packing today!
You are going to LOVE Montana! I’m sooo jealous!!
Good luck and have fun!!
that’s so cool that you are thinking of moving to charlottesville! I go to uni there and I’m a huge fan…despite not commenting ever. good luck!

Yellowstone is one place we can’t wait to visit.
Good luck!!
I am so jealous of your trip! I have never been to that part of the country (except in Seattle!) and would love to visit Yellowstone! Have a great trip!!!
I haven’t been to Bozeman in a few years, but every time I’ve been there I’ve really enjoyed eating at the Mackenzie River Pizza Co. It’s right on Main Street downtown. They have a super delicious House salad and the pizza pretty good as well.
Have fun in Montana, it’s gorgeous!
Your Montana trip sounds like so much fun! And those oats look delicious. I so could’ve gone for a bowl this morning but runing into class with oatmeal might have been odd
Yellowstone is beautiful! You’ll love it! There are a few restaurants and bathrooms located around the park. Definitely check out the hot springs – they’re amazing!
Good luck with the franchise exploration! How exciting! Kath, what do you do with the other half of your banana when you are just cooking your oatmeal for one? Is there a good way to store it so it doesn’t get black and yucky?
How exciting for you guys – keeping my fingers crossed!
Have a great time in Yellowstone – I’ve always wanted to go!!
Yellowstone is on my bucket list — I am dying to go there. Have fun on your trip!
You’re making me want to buy an RV and head out on a cross-country adventure! lol Sounds like a fun trip!!
Jenn
I have never been to Montana but would love to go to Yellowstone!
Good luck with your interview and hope you enjoy your sculpt class.

I hope you have a lot of fun in Montana. Hubby’s family is from there and I have yet to go. I can’t wait to hear all about it. Good luck on the franchise opportunity and on your test.
Welcome to Big Sky country! I always get excited for people to discover our neck of the woods. I know you are the ultimate planner, so this probably goes without saying, but the weather here in the fall can vary dramatically–warm and sunny one minute snowing the next. Also, if you can swing it, you’ll basically be driving past one of our real gems: http://www.chicohotsprings.com. The hot springs are absolutely luxurious and the food is amazing–they grow fresh produce year round in a green house heated by the geothermic hot springs! How’s that for local flavor!
Hey Kath,
I went to college in Bozeman. You are going to love it! You must go to Ale Works and eat their delicious food and try their yummy beer. Have fun! Oh! If you have time there is a tasty little burrito shop called La Parilla. It is SO good!
Yellowstone is so awesome! I can’t wait to see all of your pictures from the trip. Good luck with the interviews!!!
I lived in Charlottesville for four years during undergrad. Definitely the most beautiful place I’ve ever lived. I miss it! I go back for football games still and have so much fun. Fall is GORGEOUS there.
I lived in Montana for a summer…it’s spectacular!! I was north of Bozeman by a couple of hours, but did spend the night there. Don’t go to the Silver Bow!! It’s more of a family/kids place, anyways. Enjoy your trip….
How EXCITING, I’d love to go to Yellowstone! In addition to gas and food, wonder if you’ll find wifi?
Have a fab trip. Bet you’ll get some gorgeous pics!!!
That sounds like a fabulous trip!
I’ve never been to Yellowstone, but definitely need to spend more time touring this country instead of going to other ones — there’s so muhc to see here!
Yellowstone is so beautiful! You will love it and the drive is really scenic
Good luck to you on your GH interview!
I was in yellowstone a couple weeks ago, and while we only drove the se 1/4 of the loop, there really wasn’t anything to eat. So I’d take snacks, since you never know how long/where you’ll stop for photos and such. Also, I’m sure you’ve looked into this, but a section of the main loop was close for construction, which is why we couldn’t drive all the way around. Have fun, it’s gorgeous!
Montana is beautiful. And I doubt Yellowstone will be barren, just not crowed with people
Take lots of pictures. I hope it goes well!
Good luck with the interview!
My parents live in Belgrade which is right next to Bozeman (suburb really of Bozeman). It’s absolutely gorgeous! Pack warm clothes! I hear they are already receiving snow. Enjoy Yellowstone…it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.
I’m sure you’ll have a great time Kath
Wow, take tons of pictures of the Montana landscape!! I would love to visit there someday, it seems so unique and breathtaking (form photos I’ve seen). Good luck on the interview!!!
Sounds so exciting! *fingers crossed that all goes well with the GH interview!*
Oatmeal looks awesome as usual!
Good luck this weekend!
Aaah good luck on the trip!!
yellowstone is my favorite national park.
perhaps you saw the ken burns series on the national parks on PBS in the last few weeks? If so, I’m sure that got you excited!
haha this commented cracked me up and summed up my thoughts “you are the ultimate anti-crastinator.”
But it’s awesome. Good luck in Montana! I hope you have a safe flight and all goes well.
I would be nervous too, but that will be SO much fun!! Chris and I went to Ireland for our honeymoon, for 10 days, and we only had 2 hotel reservations. It was the best trip ever though…we rented a car and searched for the next place to stay at each destination. Really adventurous, which can be a nice change of pace =) Have fun!!!
Yellowstone is absolutely gorgeous. I know you’ll just love it. Sounds like such a fun weekend!
i could not be more jealous of all your traveling – i would kill to go to yellowstone! you two are going to have so much fun and i am crossing my fingers the interview goes well
The Great Harvest plans sound so exciting! Good luck!
I love Bozeman! Such a fun, funky town! You’ll have a great time.
You are also coming to WYOMING! Mention us too! Yellowstone is mostly in my state!
The Rockies are gorgeous and I know two will have a lot of fun here.
Those oats look so good this morning! Creamy, thick, and perfect ingredients!
Wow, you definitely are getting around this country.
Good luck with the packing!
wow! i can’t believe you are going on another vacation, so lucky! montana sounds fun, i always like going places i have never been before!
jenna
Sounds like a great trip! I’m sure Montana is going to be beautiful. Good luck with your meeting!!!
Best restaurant that I went to in Bozeman (which I still tell people about all the time) was the Naked Noodle. Amazing, quirky make-your-own pasta place that had super fun sauces (like cilanto pesto and green thai chile, along with the usual marinara and mac’n'cheese) and you could add tons of veggies and different meats or tofu to bulk up the dishes! and totally afforable! comes highly recommended!
Have a wonderful trip, Kath! Eager to hear how it all works out.
btw, I love the title of this post.
Hope the trip goes well! It’d be awesome to have KERF in Charlottesville!
I live in Fredericksburg and love that area!
i think you might like greenerfolks.com
I’m so excited for your trip!! I read your blog daily!! Enjoy Montana. Can’t wait to see the pics
I’m excited to hear what you think of Montana! I’ve never been, but I almost moved there after college with my then boyfriend!
I need to learn to be nicer to my future self by not procrastinating so much. I’m a lot better than I used to be but still…
Sounds like an exciting trip! I’ve never been to Montana, but would LOVE to visit there someday. Good luck with Great Harvest, I can’t wait to hear about it!
Greetings from a proud Bozemanite! Super excited to hear what you think of our crazy beautiful town! Be sure to check out our Co-op and also the Bozeman Brewing Company’s tasting room. Deliciousness awaits and plenty of local flavor, too!
cool – have fun in montana! have never been there.
That trip sounds like so much fun!! Best of luck to you guys :O).
When I read this title all I wanted to sing was “Two turntables and a microphone!!” always inspiring Kerf, love it!
My brother lives in Bozeman. It’s such a beautiful place and a very cute town – enjoy!
Thanks for the MT + WY recs!!
Tay,
I add them at the beginning. They don’t gel like they would in a liquid just sitting there, but they do change the consistency somehow. Makes it smoother maybe?
Tammy,
I leave it in its peel and put it in the fridge. It’s usually fine a day later.
Carrie,
My apologies to Wyoming!
Kath
Thank you, Kath! Can’t believe you noticed my question — like a needle in a haystack! You never cease to amaze me!
Best of luck traveling and getting approved for your franchise. I hope all works out for the best.
And how fun to visit Yellowstone.
Sounds like a great trip! Can’t wait to hear how everything goes for your discovery day…so exciting!
Sounds like you have some good advise for Bozeman. Definitely recommend Montana Aleworks, as well as John Bozeman’s Bistro, McKenzie River Pizza, etc. Plonk wine Bar is great too. Just walk down one side of Mains Street and down the other for all the cool shops. Too bad a fire took out two great places. The Food Co-op is great as well.
In Yellowstone Park be sure to go in Old Faithful Inn just to see the cool historic center. There’s not much in West Yellowstone or Dillon.
Too bad you’re not coming to Billings – we have four great microbreweries here: Carter’s, Angry Hanks, Yellowstone Brewing Co., and Montana Brew Pub.
This weekend the weather should be a little better.
Email me if you need anymore recommends.
Take lots of pictures-I’ve never been to Montana either and would love to see it. Have fun !
Oooh- Mount Washburn is a great longer hike and Fairy Falls for an excellent short hike! I highly recommend both! Have fun!
